Colinjb Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 Shame he gets such a hard time on here, he was fantastic for us. With all the rubbish we've had and we pick on a player who came in very cheap and performed really well for years before bringing in a huge profit. Oh, he was excellent for us, arguably never the same player (apart from a short time at Stoke) after he went.
SNSUN Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 Why does everyone attack him? He was a fantastic player for us. Quite. Some players play well all their careers, and then poorly for us; Beatts played well for us and rubbishly for every other team. Past it now though, and thank God he's Sheffield Utd's problem. david in sweden Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 Why does everyone attack him? He was a fantastic player for us. Agreed . Very true. How are the mighty fallen. Seems like " the spirit of the NOTW " hasn't died with it. Be sure to kick a man when he's down ! I was equally disgusted at the media coverage (and abuse on this site ) that Claus Lunderkvam got after his personal problems. - someone who gave valiant service to the club, and spilt his blood (on more a few occasion) for the cause. ..and why are we so shocked when we read about Gazza, Gary Speed and Dean Windass? In most ordinary careers...you can do a job for a lifetime. In Football... one bad injury and it's finished! JB will get his 3 match suspension.. and hopefully (for him) start over again, because when his time has gone - thats it ! ....whilst the rest of us can continue until we're 65. What an unnecessarily overblown overreaction. You sure you're not the filthy tabloid hack? If you and Patrick Bateman think that posting a picture, just showing what he did today, is an attack on his career with Southampton and his character, then you both need to tone down the sensitivity. ART Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 CD I cannot accept your attack on David in Sweden who has been a most respected member and Saints historian for many years. I find it completely out of character from your good self as you likewise are respected and don't often make such an attack that is not warranted. Beattie asks for everything that has come his way. He could and should have gone on to be one of the best centre forwards of his age. Sadly, things are going from bad to worse.

So being told that I'm kicking a man whilst he is down and my posting of a picture reminds David in Sweden of the News of the World is warranted is it? Perspective please. I am just posting a picture. In doing that I was not commenting on James Beattie as a person, his ability, his career with Southampton or his career otherwise. Making mountains out of molehills is reminiscent of tabloid newspapers, if anything. I stand by my criticism.

SaintNeil90 Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 I'm going to comment on this because I was actually there. My family support Sheffield United and as we aren't playing until Monday, I decided to go.... The incident started from an awful tackle by Russell the Charlton player. He was sent off straight away. The tackle caused a mass brawl with players pushing, shoving and throwing punches. In that image it looks like Beattie is strangling the player. In fact it was not that bad. One of the Charlton players was literally trying to rip Matt Lowtons shirt off him. Lowton is one of the young lads at United and Beattie was actually protecting the young lad by pulling the player away. A lot more players could have been sent off but the officials obviously didn't see everything. For those saying Beattie has done nothing at United. He has just come back from injury and due to Cresswell and Evans being in such good form, Beattie has had to settle for a place on the bench and cameo appearances to get him up to match fitness. Today he still looked sharp and agile. He caused the Charlton defenders trouble for the short time he was on due to his strength and the fact he was winning the headers. I don't have an anti-Beattie agenda, I really don't. But looking at that picture and reading the bit in bold... Are you saying he pulled him away by his throat then? Bit OTT. I can't imagine someone the size and strength of Beattie would need to put much effort in to pull him to one side, so choosing to do so by his neck is to my mind pretty damn violent. And anyway, hands raised, red card. He's been in the game a while now, he'd know that better than most. Sorry but he's not exactly coming up well out of all this. But who are these people spouting so called bile? Just about everybody agrees that Beattie was a great player for us and moved on. Terry Paine was also a great player for us and has moved on. The point is those 3 letters WAS. Many fans did not want him back what most of them are now doing is showing why that was a good decision, this same posters almost universally wished him luck in his career if that is spouting bile then PC-ness/Anger Management has certainly moved on since I was last back in the UK (last Saturday)

egg Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 I agree that he was great for us but the man is an idiot. I've had the misfortune to meet him socially a couple of times and he was so arrogant it's untrue. Me and a few mates then had words with him and a few of his mates in Junnes when he decided he didn't want to wait for food and demanded ours when it arrived on the trolley. ART Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Within 6 months of signing for Everton Beattie was involved in a simple punch up and red carded. The guy is passionate about his game. Strange that back then no one was on here gloating about it. What a sad element have attached itself to what was once the most decent, most considerate and best supporters in the country. Haven't seen the same title being written about throughout the media. Nowadays, our very own supporters are so fast to cast muck and scandal about our players, past and present, instead of keeping quiet about stuff that ruins careers, families and trust.
