los_saint Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 I was thinking about our league victory this season at the Ricoh, when we ended up winning 4-2, after leading 2-0 and Coventry pulling it back to 2-2 (IIRC). This got me wondering: Given the hypotheical choice. Would it be better to win 4-2 or 2-0? Keeping clean sheets is important BUT, scoring 4 could be considered better if 2 teams had the same points and goal difference. So which is best? Dimond Geezer Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 As you say a clean sheet is nice, but should goal difference be equal at the end of the season, goals scored is the deciding factor, so in that respect 4-2 is better. Saint_clark Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Statistically 4-2 is better, but in terms of performance i'd probably say 2-0 is better.

The Cat Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 As long as we come out on top I'd rather see more goals and more excitement. Mind you a scoreline doesn't always reflect the qualiy of a game. A 2-0 could be better to watch than a 4-2, just depends how the teams go about it. But on balance I'd take more goals. The9 Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 If we don't concede any goals we won't lose, which away from home is the key. So I'd prefer a 2-0 away, but prefer 4-2 at home as I'm hoping we take the game to the opposition at St Mary's.
jawillwill Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 What about 3-0? That'd be good too.
Colinjb Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 As a spectator, a 4-2 would tend to be a little more exciting due to the extra 'peril' from the fightback therefore leaving a more satisfying outcome.
Saint_Ash Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 4-2 Every time, I want to be entertained at a football match and 6 goals is always better than 2, I enjoy the thrill of watching the team win especially if they have to up a gear at some point in the game. Jumping around 4 times is better than twice (this is where people come and say being disappointed no times is better than twice) Overall winning 4-2 doesn't give you any more points than winning 2-0 so why not enjoy the more goals. Lighthouse Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 I was at the Ricoh with a face like a slapped arse at 2-2 and dancing on my seat when De Ridder scored. Overall I think that's better value for money as a fan. If that game finished 2-0 it would have meant an utterly forgettable second half.
Hatch Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 seeing as it costs about a hundred quid per game these days, then the more goals the better. I would prefer a 4-3 to a 2-0.
S-Clarke Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 I'm a fan of the good old solid away performance, so it'll be 2-0 for me. Love an away clean sheet, don't know why, it just looks better...
Bad Wolf Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 4-2 is better as goals is used after goal difference. 2-0 though isthe sign of a nice steady team.
Barry the Badger Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 I think the 4-2 would've given the team a bigger confidence boost.
krissyboy31 Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Give me 4-2 anytime. A clean sheet is all good and well but I want to see our strikers hitting the back of the net. 6-3 against Man Utd! I'd take that over a 3-nil win every day of the week. DanW Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Let's just split the difference. How about we win all of our games 3-1 and call it a day?

sandwichsaint Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Which is easiest to replicate next time out? 2-0 is a clean team performance with everybody doing their jobs. 4-2 gives a licence to sloppy defending and relies on your team scoring 3 to get a win ..... can you really rely on your team scoring 3 (a relatively high number of goals) every game? The manager / coach / player would always take the 2-0. The fan and the chairman would always take the 4-2. I used to like it when we won 3-1 every week. saintmatt Posted 21 January, 2012 Share Posted 21 January, 2012 2-0 is the better score in the home leg of the Champions League knockout stages. Think ahead people
