St Marco Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 (edited) Not sure if you guys been paying much attention to this whole SOPA thing but thought i'd share this bit of news! Yesterday the fbi took down megaupload (those who use the net alot will know who they are). And in retaliation those cheeky bastards at Anonymous (the people who supposedly took down the PS3) have gone after some websites http://paidcontent.org/article/419-sopa-blackout-anonymous-style-doj-riaa-hacked-in-megaupload-protest/ Department of Justice, RIAA, MPAA, Universal, BMI and Warner all gone so far. Very interesting. Normally against hackers but have to say good on them, while I doubt Wiki,Facebook etc will agree with their methods I think they will be happy about how much more exposure it has now got. Google said they got 7m people to sign a petition against it in just one day! Crazy. EDIT: FBI down now too! buctootim Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 tbh I have no idea what SOPA involves - but am aware the Wiki Foundation have concerns, and I trust their view.
Sheaf Saint Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 tbh I have no idea what SOPA involves - but am aware the Wiki Foundation have concerns, and I trust their view. It's ostensibly about combating online piracy, but it would give the government the power to censor whatever websites they wish and would also allow big businesses to have websites removed from search engines or shut down completely if they suspect that website of linking to copyrighted material. norwaysaint Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 On a similar issue, megaupload has now been taken down, wiping out linking sites like icefilms, which I always found handy for watching TV series I'd missed.
