jawillwill Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 F'real. Just get this message whenever you search for something... "Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia. Learn more."
skintsaint Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 means less 'facts' being banded around this forum today then...
Sheaf Saint Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 I hears about this on the radio this morning. It's in protest at the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills that the US senate is trying to push through.
Crazy Diamond Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 The Daily Mail has come to a standstill, undoubtedly.
alpine_saint Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 Would be a sad day if Wikipedia were to close business.
Patrick Bateman Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 Couldn't give a toss, pick up a book or use a real encyclopedia!
Baj Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 Couldn't give a toss, pick up a book or use a real encyclopedia! yeah, easier, more up to date and comprehensive... oh...
Ohio Saint Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 It means I can't work today. I get a day off!!
Saintandy666 Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 It still works on the mobiles and stuff, but not on the desktop website I believe. Google has a link to anti-SOPA/PIPA stuff on its US and main front page.
gaz Posted 18 January, 2012 Posted 18 January, 2012 Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way? Yes. During the blackout, Wikipedia is accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. You can also view Wikipedia normally by disabling JavaScript in your browser, as explained on this Technical FAQ page. Our purpose here isn't to make it completely impossible for people to read Wikipedia, and it's okay for you to circumvent the blackout. We just want to make sure you see our message. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more
