Jordan Rhodes

Am I the only one that thinks it is a massive gamble paying £4m for Rhodes? yes he has been banging them in at L1 level but there is no guarantee he will bang them in at Championship level and we have no idea whatsoever what he could do at prem level as it is a totally different kettle of fish to the championship,Hooper for me is the one we should pursue for now as he has always played at this level and above and I am pretty sure he could do a job to get us into the premiership.

It is a catch 22 situation I think with Rhodes, yes he is a very promising prospect we all agree but at this stage in the season it is a massive gamble for us to bring in players that we have no idea on what they are capable of,what if we do get Rhodes and pay over the odds for him say £4m + and he is out of his depth? if we go up to the prem we may as well write him off as we will never get that money back for him from a lower level club and he will not get anywhere near our starting 11.

But if he does start banging in goals then we are laughing,of course I am just a armchair manager and I know nothing but I think that we should try and go for someone that is proven at this level and above

Completely agree with this statement,

for 2/3 million more Hooper is the much more sensible option, everyone keeps classing Rhodes as promising but seem to forget that Hooper is still only 23

Rhodes is flavour of the month but Hooper has scored at a higher level, including the level we find ourselves at now!

Plus I think Hooper has more pace, and Rhodes might be a little similar to Lambert.

Yes and why not ! I'm a bit obsessed with Daleks and have been for decades. I am not interested in aliens only Daleks. Whe I was alad I think I was the only one that was disappointed when the Daleks lost.

Now, the Dalek in the background looks to me like one of the film Daleks, unusual colouring, probably not authentic but the lights do. I need to see the base to properly date it. Of course in the 60's there was a travelling dalek exhibition that visited big dept stores. I remember meeting one, of the Daleks and it shook my hand, so to speak. Made a lasting impression.

Any saints who are Dalek fans ?

Don't know what the problem is. When i say obsessed, maybe a bit strong. Having said that I always rate the Daleks as being by far the greatest ever aliens and all other Doctor Who enemies are insignificant.

I have collected all sorts of Dalek stuff over the years and used to belong to DWAS until Dr Who became popular.

Dalek, your specificity on Daleks (and not aliens) reminded me of this gem from Craigslist

I am a very career-focused, attractive, 5'9, 120lb woman who is seeking a man who is willing to fulfill my ultimate sexual fantasy. I am an executive with a very successful corporation that keeps me very busy and I sometimes have difficulty finding men who share similar interests to my own in the bedroom.

Nothing turns me on more then Jurassic Park themed role play. You must be the animatronic dinosaur, and I must be the helpless child (Tim or Lex) stuck in the park at your mercy.

You will growl mechanically into my ear and stare threateningly. I will feign panic and search for the flash light in the back seat of the visitor jeep. You will sniff at the window slowly and then release a robotic roar into the night air. I scream for Alan Grant, but your over sized robot jaws come crashing down through the overhead window, pinning me to the floor.

I cannot stress this enough however, you must play as a ROBOTIC dinosaur. This is very specific, my interest lie entirely in animatronic dinosaurs, not real ones. I thought I should mention this as there have been unfortunate miscommunications in the past, leading to performances that have left me without an orgasm.

Other situations could include you being the dilophasaurus and spitting in my face and then going for my jugular. Or you could be the ill and moaning triceratops, and I would be Ellie Sadler, digging through your stool to find the source of the ailment. More or less any scene from the film involving a mechanical dinosaur interacting with a human will do fine.

I don't like wasting my time, so make sure you do your homework and watch the film and make sure you can fully embrace the mindset of an animatronic dinosaur. I am an incredibly sexual person and I would make it a blockbuster night that you would never forget.

Unless faced with some steps of course.

I for one would love Rhodes to come to Saints as it shows that he could probably score goals in any division even for someone in the Prem like Fulham or someone

and that would be a Great signing if he does join Saints this month but we'l see!!!

COYR :D!!!

Yes but in 1989 'Remembrance of the Daleks' episode 2 1989) we discovered the Daleks were able to elevate themselves up the steps of the bolier room into the school corridor. Part of the Dalek evolution. However according to the official 'Dalek World Annual' published 1967, Dalek's cannot see the colour red. So, it would be better to hide behind a letter box.

anyway, you guys ....this thread is actually about Jordon Rhodes - isn't it ?

read an item somewhere that we had a £3 million bid pushed back, and now we are returning with a higher bid (£5 million?)..having lost out on the Hooper deal..(if indeed we have).....is Rhodes that good?.

There's a lot of difference between scoring against mediochre L1 sides and being a prospective Premiership striker....

I can name a few strikers that have scored against mediocre league 1 teams and now scoring in the premier league. Grant Holt for 1.

You have to start somewhere and if we want him we will have to pay what huddersfield feel he is worth to them. Lets face it AOC, Bale and Theo were all never worth the money we got for them at the time of sale. However it's what we wanted based on our demands.

you want the players then you have to pay for them.

He'll be playing with better players and getting better service and at such a young age could be moulded into a fantastic finisher.

and Rhodes might be a little similar to Lambert.
in what way? Lambert is a big lad with a lovely touch that drops deep, Rhodes is a lithe, nippy, plays on the shoulder forward. Other than both scoring lots of goals through good finishing I don't see any similarities whatsoever.

On the other hand, Rhodes and Hooper are very much the same type of striker.

I disagree with this, value is determined by market demand. Potential at the date of sale is also factored into any price paid.

... .guess that's the answer then. If we do succeed in signing him... hopes it works.

I wasn't sure if anyone had actually seen him play very much?

seen Rhodes quite a few times, he really does look the part, the potential he showed even 2 years ago, he stands out in the same way as young versions of Keegan, Shearer & Lineker did, it really shocks me why he is still at Huddersfield (although he does love Huddersfield), even at 10 million it would still be a great signing, he will be an international player within the next 2 years

I see more stories in the press today to the effect that now that we've given up on Hooper we are set to tempt Huddersfield with a offer of c £5m for Rhodes.

This kinda sounds plausible as there is little or no doubt we are in the market for a quality striker - but if we'd signed every player we've been linked with we'd have a squad of 100 by now.

There is about an inch in height difference. Are you sure you have seen Jordan Rhodes? ;)

Deceptive really. Connolly isn't that quick, but you get that impression from the way he plays. Rhodes times his runs to perfection and finishes like a top striker. Time your run wrong and you end up offside or not getting to the ball.

TBH the figures bounded around for an English L1 striker is obscene.

Lee would probably make a much better impact and he's cost a snip. I really think we need to carry on looking abroad and forget this english market, we clearly only pay what we feel a player is worth - and we'll only get that sort of value away from england.

We cannot complain about paying 5million or more for any good or potentially good goalscorer when we got an obscene amount of money for oxo.

We cannot have it both ways.

Unfortunately we will have to break the bank to bring any decent player in and we dont really have anything to complain about.

But I don't think we will break the bank for a player in terms of a transfer fee, it just doesn't seem Cortese's style. He's very protective of the trust fund that has been setup and doesn't want to pay way over what we feel we should pay, which is fair enough i suppose.

I think the whole ethos is to have us run as a sustainable club that lives within it's means, and clubs that live within their means don't spunk £7m plus on a player in the championship. Just what I think anyway.

IMO no way did we bid £7m for Hooper and there are other options that would cost a lot less. I just hope we are seriously bidding not just using up the month bidding for players that won't be released without silly money which we wouldn't entertain.

The domestic market has been inflated for years. We're feeling the full force of it now because we're after the most desirable players with proven track records who everyone else wants too. Most teams do a bit of scouting to find a player they think will improve their team for a price that works for them. Obviously it doesn't always pay off, but that's swhere the likes of Rhodes and Hooper came from.
