Sorry if there's already a thread, couldn't see one with a quick search...

So here's the new vision for Southampton generating " 24,000 new jobs in the city over the next 25 years" and costing "more than £3 billion"... What do people think of all this? Personally I think/know it'll never happen, just like all the other plans they've ever had for Southampton.

I think they get a little bored sometimes and come up with these great ideas, that will never happen to make them feel a little better.

So how is that ice rink with indoor arena coming on?

It does appear unplanned, it says its up for public consultation in Feb so I assume its going to be displayed somewhere in more detail? Maybe SMS will be the ice rink when we move to the Cortese Colosseum :)

Just looks like a few architects drawings tbh...no details!

That's because they're concept drawings, you don't get details until planning stage (& with smaller projects until Building reg stage).

It'll never happen though.

There's a fair bit more detail in the brochure that they've produced, but it's still just a vision at this stage. It reads more like an advert for the city aimed at developers. The opposite of "build it and they will come", more like "this is what we'd like, please come and build it"

I share a degree of cynicism on this but understand from a couple of well placed 'sauces' that there will be an announcement shortly about major developments, starting, I think, with the Royal Pier scheme

a couple of months ago Portsmouth council talked of spending £1billion on various city upgrade projects. Maybe every town and city is producing these kind of plans in some sort of desperate attempt to be the chosen city that gets the limited private investment currently available?
