A possible 3rd itk moment for me following Jack Stephens and Sam Gallagher signing from Plymouth Argyle.

A few things...

- A "Palace source" has told me that Southampton, West Ham and Newcastle have enquired about Nathaniel Clyne.

- This interview http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18340530

- Aarron Martin going on loan to Palace today - a sweetener for a compensation package?

"With Manchester United, Newcastle, Fulham and Aston Villa showing an interest" is my clue here.

Didn't look all that great at St Mary's, and we already have a decent right back.

That's debatable. Shall we debate?

Clyne may even come to Saints but there is absolutely no leverage to link Aaron Martin to the deal. Palace have no say where Clyne ends up and equally any deals will be done for the best of both Saints and Palace from their respective ends. There's no possible sweetners available here for Clyne, maybe others.

Very very few better tha. Richardson last season

Yes, he had a decent season I don't deny that. However, he's not got much potential to develop (like Clyne) and his touch and distribution was often poor which put us under pressure on a number occassions.

The team set up offered him plenty of protection and enabled him space to get forward and utilise his good delivery. He will be much more occupied on the defensive side next year IMO and for me, it's a position we should look to strengthen if the opportunity arises.

I didn't say they did, but if you listen to the interview they are trying to agree a fee with clubs to stop it going to a tribunal. Martin joining them on loan may lower the compensation price Palace ask for if Clyne agrees to come to Saints. For all we know Clyne may have already agreed terms to join Saints on 1st July and the Martin deal will then make negotiations about compensation price a little smoother.

We are interested as are a number of clubs. Apparantly the player would prefer to stay in London and Fulham, QPR and West Ham are also interested as are Newcastle, Stoke and Villa who have all made enquiries about him. I dont know if we or anyone else has offered him a deal or not, but i'd imagine if we do it'll happen soon. No, not naming sources.

Having recently signed an extension with Butterfield, Richardson fancied throughout the season and Jack Stephens elevated to the first team we have three right backs there. I can't see that it is a position that either NC or NA is looking at. A couple of CBs, a striker (looks sorted), a goalie and possibly a midfielder will be the deal I reckon, however tasty Clyne appears.

Apart from we are going to be playing in the Prem. We need a better RB than what we have.

Last season NA singled him out because of his height and worked on getting him one on one at the back stick with lambert, that was exactly how we scored if I remember correctly.

Would be a weak link just for that reason.

Years ago ManU got rid of Paul Parker at right back for the same reason

I would be amazed if our long ball to the back stick to lambert will be less effective this season. Not because the full backs are taller. Just that most of the teams simply defend better as a unit

It'll work better surely? According to a lot of people on here you get more time and space on the ball in the Premier League.

Lambert gave Clyne a torrid time at Selhurst, but to be honest... He had no help at all from the rest of his defence and we really could have had a field day. Clyne is a very promising youngster who will only get better. Yes he is a small lad, but plenty full backs are.

If we signed him would he end up marking the tall striker away at White Hart Lane while out of position at centre back I wonder?

Great player, can see him going onto great things. That said, premier league clubs are interested so we wouldn't have a great chance, and I'm quite happy with our right back situation as it stands. Maybe concentrate on higher priorities.

Hello, we are Premier League as well according to the Premier League web site. For some reason the Beeb seem to think otherwise.

This might be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway - is he more of an offensive or defensive full back?

very similar to Richardson if you ask me. Solid defensively, but does look to go forward when the time is right, but not relentlessly. Very composed. Richardson would have the edge physically, but Clyne might be that tad quicker on the turn.

I bet we do sign a right back. Stephens isn't ready to be relied on and Richardson and Butterfield have probably reached their best already.

why did we give Butterfield an extra year then?

It still worries me that we 'targetted' Clyne in our match against them, putting high balls to Lambert near him, which Rickie won nearly every time. How would he do against the likes of Carroll or Crouch etc?

We'd do the same thing with Evra when we play Utd though, Ken.

Clyne's pace would probably be more useful than his lack of height in the Prem, IMO.

Hope you're right. We certainly do need pace. When you compare championship sides and premier league sides, apart from the obvious stand-out stars that some PL teams have, the big difference is often pace.
