Thanks in advance. Edited 17 January, 2012 by Dog
buctootim Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 No. The passport just needs to still be valid on the day you leave. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/europe/netherlands
bridge too far Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Isn't it a requirement that there is at least 6 months to go on the passport before expiry? Having said that, my daughter managed to get to France with a passport that had expired 6 months beforehand! That was on Eurostar (not so sure airports would be quite so accommodating) and she took a couple of utility bills and her driving licence to prove her identity. buctootim Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Entry Requirements - Passport validity You must hold a valid passport to enter Netherlands. For stays of up to three months your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you do not need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this. However, it is always sensible to have a short period of extra validity on your passport in case of any unforeseen delays to your departure. http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...pe/netherlands
trousers Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 (edited) Isn't it a requirement that there is at least 6 months to go on the passport before expiry? I've got a feeling that varies depending on the country one is visiting. I'd be surprised if EU countries have such a long expiry overlap period. I've got a feeling I read once that, technically, you don't need a passport at all in order to leave a country and that the only actual legal stipulation (within the EU at least) is that you need to provide "photographic ID" when entering another country. Of course, the most convenient and hassle free form of photo ID when travelling is ye olde passport but I'm sure it's not explicity a legal requirement to travel with one. That said, try telling that to the border guard when quizzed about it! There again, I probably heard it on QI so pinch of salt territory no doubt Edited 17 January, 2012 by trousers
Dog Posted 17 January, 2012 Author Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Entry requirements (back to top) Entry Requirements - Passport validity You must hold a valid passport to enter Netherlands. However, it is always sensible to have a short period of extra validity on your passport in case of any unforeseen delays to your departure. You do not have to wait until your old passport expires to apply to renew it. Any time left on your old passport when you apply will be added to your new passport, up to a maximum of nine months. For passport applications in the UK, you should apply to the Identity and Passport Service. For stays of longer than three months, contact the Embassy of the country to which you are travelling. Thanks buctootim Delete this boring thread now mods.

Not for most European countries...US and Canada do require it.

dune Posted 20 February, 2012 Share Posted 20 February, 2012 Filled the form out in Blue ink, it says Black ink on the form, will this be a problem? Trust me, they won't accept it. You've got to be spot in how you fill out a passport form and follow the instructions to the letter.
