Kenilworthy Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Dan Petrescu? Absolutely not! Debut versus Leicester in January 2001 - We win 1-0, Petrescu scores the winner Next game we beat Bradford 2-0 Then beat Middlesbrough 1-0 Then beat Manchester City 1-0, Petrescu scores the winner Then beat Everton 1-0 So in his first 5 games for us we win all 5 and Dan the Man scores the winner twice. I'll take that from any of our new signings. But of course after than run Hoddle departed and the whole side went to pot until the final two game and Gray and Strachan wouldn't seem to give him a chance. colehillsaint Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Got to be Skacel and Delgado Really harsh on Rudi Skacel that. He was never very quick, but he ushually used the ball well, and at least he made many appearances in a season that saw us make the playoffs. Degado on the other hand!! I think poeple were actually more tolerant because otherwise things were going well for us. How many appearances or goals, and how much did we pay? Did we get *** all back? He even had to come with a mate, who nearly ended up showing more promise. In my time he takes this by an absolute street.

colehillsaint Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 (edited) Delgado and Skacel aside I would probably say Anders Svennson - played remarkably well for th e national sde , scored a cracker against Argentina but never really seemed to show the same sparkle for us. I thought at times Svennson was great for us. In the cup final season, I think our midfield was from Svennson, Fernandes, CMFG, Delap, and Matt Oakley. I'm sure Svensson played a good share and was very effective. He seemed to loose all confidence towards the end of his time with us, and that has had a big effect on how he has been remembered. Yes, for me one of the most overrated players we've ever signed. Was expecting great things and with the exception of one brilliant game against Spurs in the cup he under delivered. Will always remember his sit down tantrum on the touch line at Fulham. THis thread shows that despite always having tight budgets we've really spanked a lot on 'big name' duds up and down the years. sammysaint Posted 18 January, 2012 Share Posted 18 January, 2012 Agree with most but i thought i would throw delap in the frame, good player but wasnt worth the price tag we paid, except spurs at home that overhead was amazing and arsenal away where he scored 2 i dont recall him being very decent in the other 100 plus games.
