Window Cleaner Posted 3 February, 2012 Share Posted 3 February, 2012 10/2 in reply....top cricket again from us. Nothing to do with cricket....it's the feck awful pitch, why are we playing in Dubai anyway,if they want test matches let them get their own team. These test series are nothing to do with traditional winter tours. It's nothing to do with US! You seem to have forgotten the poor Sri Lankans who got shot last time they tried to play a Test in Pakistan. Pakistan are not allowed to play at home so they choose where THEY want to play a game, the locals just have to get on with it. FWIW we DID have a decent ODI side some years back - all long term residents (even some ex-pat brat kids who were born here) who qualified to play the same way KP & Trott did. ICC then changed the rules (but not for England) so the lads here had to start again from scratch. Anyway good news from the Test. We've avoided the follow-on

Window Cleaner Posted 3 February, 2012 Share Posted 3 February, 2012 Yup KP & Strauss added 57 runs in 14.5 overs at a rate just under 4 an over But now it's 15 wickets on the 1st day for less than 200 runs, it just isn't test cricket, probably because the wicket is unsuitable for 5 day matches. They'd be better off having 5 one day slog abouts than a test that will be over in 3 days again.

Born In The 80s Posted 3 February, 2012 Share Posted 3 February, 2012 DRS with spinners seem to be the main problem. I think a lot of the blame has to go to the umpires. They seem to be "guessing" a lot more, especially for LBW decisions against spinners. That isn't what the system is there for. The system is there to eliminate an absolute clanger (i.e. an inside edge, or ball pitching outside leg). With the system, upmires seem to be much braver in making their decisions. Umpires simply cannot guess. The KP dismissal today was a prime example. That would NEVER have been given out a few years ago. The very fact that the DRS is there, umpires for some reason look at it as a back-up just in case it was totally missing. That is a huge fault, especially against spinners. If there is any doubt, the rule states a batsmen should be given not out. Either the ICC has to speak to every umpire about this, or the game has totally changed and every test side will have maybe 2 or 3 spinners in their line up for every test. dubai_phil Posted 4 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 4 February, 2012 Well that was very weird. England folded like a Cheap Suit to lose 4 wickets in 40 minutes in the morning then nurdle the openers out for 28 and it looked for all the world that it would be all over today. then from Lunch time until the drinks break after tea - Nada nicht nothing. A Run rate of 2 per over, an over rate of 16.5 an hour. In 60 odd overs there was ONE extra - a No Ball. Ball struck Pakistani pads bringing on appeals twice in that time (except when Monty went to an outside leg stump line to bore us all into submission) So here is a very simple new tactic, as we used to say up at CBCC. yer gotta bat in yer 'ands - use it. Younis & Azhar showed what you can do if you play each ball on merits and - wait for this STUNNING REVELATION Use the BAT to HIT THE BALL. Ball seemed to be turning square for Monty. Think we were screwed when they got more than 50 runs in front. Some abject fielding by Morgan as the day went on I got cold and came home (no I appreciate not cold as in you lot cold but a nippy draft was blowing the Dubai Saints Flag & I was reaching the point where I needed to take it down to wrap meself up in) apparently they had 4 hour queues for taxis last night - they took the hint today and laid on buses back to the nearest shopping Mall (MoE) Had a chat with a nice chap over on hols from Cornwall - Plymouth and part time Truro fan. Oh they hate the skates for getting away with it down that way, believe me. There they are holding on in L2 by their finger nails (and Truro have big tax man problems as well) and yet they see the skates not selling anyone and thinking wtf... Oh & general consensus from the fag smokers (fecking 60 stairs each way when you want to smoke) Send the entire England team out to play cricket on Village Pitches, puddings, u****, unrolled, the stuff most of us had to put up with for years. They may start to use their brains and their bats again

dubai_phil Posted 13 February, 2012 Author Share Posted 13 February, 2012 Bloody Hell. Alistair Cook beat Pakistan by 7 runs this evening. Didn't see that coming. Well bowled Steve Finn.
