Dr Who? Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Well the paint went really well on the new plaster. I had to bring an electrician in to do the under cupboard lights, fit the cooker hood, and to fit another plug socket. Tomorrow I will finish the painting with my second coat, and then prep the tiling area flatten and clean, and then get tiling. Anyone got any hints with the tiling? I already have. I diamond tile cutter with water tray, and I am ready to go. Should I start at the edge or in the middle? Then all I have left is the flooring and skirting. Really enjoying this project! bridge too far Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Start your tiling in the middle - that's what my dad taught me.
Bearsy Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Get a professional in to do the tiling. If you need convincing come have a look at my bathroom!
Jonnyboy Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Dr Who, my electric oven is broken. If I buy a new one is it easy enough to swap and install myself?
Weston Super Saint Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Dr Who, my electric oven is broken. If I buy a new one is it easy enough to swap and install myself? Yes, very. Three wires to come out and go in the new one. Having said that, you should always get a qualified electrician to certify your work - I'm guessing your insurance would be invalidated otherwise.... Still, it's not rocket science is it

Dr Who? Posted 17 January, 2012 Author Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Very easy if you already have the sockets fitted. In the case for all the lights, hood and extra socket, it is not as easy as just wiring it in!!

Yeah, start in teh middle and tile outwards. If you're tiling onto new plaster, it is good advice to use a primer on the walls and make sure you allow for some wasteage. My tile cutting, although good, resulted in a few more breaks and chips than i bargained for, which is a pain if the tiles have to be ordered. One of the lads on this forum did my kitchen (good job too, Ben!) and maybe i should have let him do the tiling too! Good luck!
