Biggest threat to promotion besides West Ham?

Brum are the biggest threat. Now they are out of the European Noddy Cup they are focused on the League, and will only be 7 points off if they win their game in hand. Cardiff and Boro will blow it (maybe Boro have already burst, were always going to struggle with their inability to score, signing LJ will not materially improve this IMHO).

Brum are a threat, but they are in dire financial difficulties and this window could end all hope for them if they have to sell. (which it's rumored they will)

Cardiff are a good side, no doubts, but I feel that their cup exploits will leave them with a bit of catchup to do.

I'd say Boro are probably our biggest threat, they'll never concede too many goals - and they've just gone out and got another striker, so they're well stocked in that dept.

But let's not forget Reading too....on an amazing run at the mo and they've shown that they're a good team. The signing of Gorrks has been a masterstroke for them.

Cardiff and Reading after West Ham, plus Middlesbrough if they get their keeper back soon. If we're worried about Birmingham, we're worried about the entire top half. They shouldn't have a hope of catching us from 10 points back (albeit with a game in hand).

Boro have the players, Cardiff have the team spirit, Birmingham and Reading have the momentum. We could all be top 6, but I wouldn't exclude Blackpool, who have some good players.

Still, play-offs at the very least will still be a good season for us, but I do think with the injuries and Lambert coming back we'll have the team to get an auto spot.

...oh, and is it too early to lol at Leicester? Transfer deadline day could be interesting up there.

Dont rule out Pompey

Plenty of their fans predict a late run after late spending splurge by their prospective, minted, new owner

They have a game in hand as well!!

Yeh, good points made there.

And while we are looking for an outsider to steam up the league, I think Clotterill will turn Forest into play off contenders shortly, they can't go on with this run of bad luck which has blighted them recently (over the last nine games or so).

I'll say Reading.

Cardiff are the perennial bottle jobs.

Middlesboro I just don't really think are that good.

Brum have financial difficulties, but should be there or there abouts.

Hull... hmmm can't see it

Leeds have been inconsistent

I'm not getting complacent here, they will all give us a run for our money, but I think Reading and Wham will be the biggest threats, then Brum.

Boro, will miss out unless they sort out their goal scoring problem. I think they will be the club to slip away. Cardiff will also go on another run where they slip away a little, but will make the play offs. West Ham will win the league, but we will be pushed all the way by Reading. Have been saying it for a few weeks now.

West Ham

Saints

Reading

Cardiff

Burnley

Boro/Barnsley

In one way it's good that there are so many teams pushing hard as it means they will all be taking points off each other. If it was just us, WHU and 'boro as it seemed a couple of months ago, it might have made it harder. Would be gutted to get close to 90 points and still not make 1st or 2nd!

the way that results are going you could easily be top with 86 points and not make the play-offs with 78.

Can't see past Saints winning the league. More likely for me is another team, Reading or Cardiff maybe, going on a late run and pushing West Ham right to the wire and possibly overtaking them. Although West Ham are decent and have money to spend, for me they don't have the direction or the style to run away with the league. Fat Sam's doing for being a hoof merchant who doesn't know what he wants basically.

Boro and Cardiff don't have huge squads and haven't really had any injuries to key men like Miller or Emnes. If injuries come, they could struggle but do seem to be hanging in on there. It is very tight and a 4 or 5 winning run will be beneficial to any of the top 3 or 4 because they may be able to pull away but it is very close. Just keep that gap above second to more than 3 points then I can rest comfortably....

I'm actually not too worried about Boro to be honest - having spoken to a few fans they're obviously delighted to be where they are but owe a lot of it to edging games 1-0/2-1 etc. kind of like us really. Mowbray (like Adkins) is very good at getting his teams to do just enough to win a game although no denying that is a skill in itself. I think Cardiff and Brum are by far the bigger threats if they can build up a head of steam towards the end of the season.

I can't for the life of me see us finishing above West Ham or West Ham missing out on promotion to be honest.

Furthermore, I think we should accept the fact that we are overachieving this season - thats a compliment to our players not a criticism, but we should definitely accept that if we aren't promoted its not a disaster.

Yeah, Cardiff's squad in particular is very very thin compared to recent seasons - but this may just be the reason they seem a bit more ''together''.

Boro are currently missing Bailey and Robson from the heart of their midfield, and their backup is a youth team player and someone who has only played 1 game in the last 18 months. That's why they've stuttered in the last 2 games for sure, and the bonus for us is that Bailey is out for 8 weeks.

I've seen pundits and oppo fans say we'll fade as we've got a small squad etc, but really it's not much smaller than most. We probably lack a little up top, but at the back, in the middle and at full back we're better stocked than most IMO. (and with quality too, not just average backup)
