Nathan Dyer

Really? I work with 4/5 arsenal ST holders and loads of fair weather types and they credit him with a lot of assists to RVP? They are also very knowledgable about European football and appreciate that pep guardiola rates him as the toughest opponent in England? None of them have heard of Lallana except for when I go on about him?

The absolute salivation by some on here at the thought of Wallcott maybe failing is pathetic. I'm proud hexwas one of us, always speaks in glowing terms about the club and the city and is in the middle of an amazing career!

Totally agree. Walcott is far from a brainless footballer. What is more brainless is the number of people that just parrot something that Chris Waddle said a few years back when Walcott was struggling for form and fitness. Because he burst on the scene with so much hype and because Sven stupidly took him to the World Cup when he was 16/17 there seems to be no shortage of people waiting to latch on to any poor game. Even when he doesn't play at his best he keeps the opposition on their toes with the threat of his pace but no matter what he almost never loses the ball unless attempting an assist. Even today he scores a great goal and still gets criticised. I do think he lacks the confidence and arrogance of better players like Van Persie which is holding him back and is the result of going to Arsenal too soon and Wenger playing him as a right midfielder.

Why are people so harsh on theo? Every time I see him he looks sharp and a threat, scored a good goal today too and plays for a massive club. Hardly bad for a young english player. Dyer has done well but suggesting he's better is crazy. Is it just over the top expectations? It hasn't helped being in an inconsistent Arsenal side, but overall Theo has improved each season and is playing far better than the likes of Arshavin, Gervinho, Rosicky etc.

Well, saying that Walcott's playing better than Arshavin and Rosicky hardly sets the bar very high: they've both been awful, and the big question is why Wenger persists with them. A major reason Arsenal have been so inconsistent this season is that they have to rel;y on the likes of those two as "impact" subs: two players who never have any impact, except by passing the ball to the opposition (which happens all too frequently).

That said, Theo has been disappointing this season, and he has not played better than Gervinho, to the contrary: Gervinho has been the more influential of the two. Theo has good moments, when you can see what the hype was a bout; but then he'll put in a pathetic excuse for a cross, or chicken out of taking his defender on and pass the ball 15 yards backwards, or shoot at goal and miss by a mile. Inconsistent is the kindest word one can use of him, this season.

The depressing thing about Dyer, is recalling how easily Saints gave up on him. The Premiership is littered with Saints youngsters we failed to hang onto for one reason or another -- in addition to Dyer, there's Surman, Williamson, Hall, Baird, Best & those are just the ones I can recall on the spur of the moment -- and that's not counting the ones we sold for big money, like Bale, Kenwynne, Walcott, & Chamberlain. That's almost a whole team of players who were, and under other circumstances could still have been ours. How depressing ...

We got rid of Dyer because he's a little ****, not because he wasn't a good player. Even against Arsenal, when yes he played really well, did you see the replay of the penalty decision? Dyer stamps on Arsenal player's shin, over-balances in the process and goes down .. penalty given , when it could have resulted in the arsenal player being seriously injured. The foul should have been given against Dyer and arguably he should have been sent off.

I don't expect Saints to be saints as such(!), but I would rather have players in our team who I can cheer for without too many reservations.

On the other hand, I'd take Surman back any day. He only left to stop us going broke.

I think it's great what Nathan Dyer is doing at the moment. It's a shame that we never got to see the best of him but it was inevitable that he would go after being involved in that infamous theft.

You have to give him and Swansea a lot of credit for bringing his game up to scratch. If he carries on progressing as he is then I think he has got a decent chance of sneaking into the Euro 2012 squad for England. Whether Fabio would be willing to call him up is another matter entirely, but on current form there aren't many better options on the wings.

Rupert ran us as a farm - spent lots of money and placed lots of emphasis on the youth system to ensure that we had cheap first team players and could make a buck or two in the transfer market. Then when his grand scheme failed we couldn't keep hold of the better young players.

The past has passed and the biggest test is yet to come - can we keep hold of the cream of the current crop, who by all accounts are a pretty handy bunch. We certainly have the money to keep them here and PL status should make us a very attractive proposition to any good youngster coming through who may in the past have looked elsewhere.

Dyer has been exceptional this season and looks to have become a very accomplished PL player. Shame really because he was such a little sh!t whenever I met him.

For a little lad he can launch the ball with the best off 'em - always thought of him as a better mans Fabrice Fernandes - good luck to him
can he?

I'd love to see his attempt at the cross bar challenge. I doubt the ball would even reach.

I was a massive fan of Fabrice Fernandes. At Fabrice's best Dyer couldn't lace his boots.

IMO Dyer is over hyped. I haven't seen a huge improvement since he left. I'm not saying he is a bad player, he is after all extremely pacey and tricky, but calls for him to play for England are miles off the mark if you ask me. Are people thinking that small players are the way forward because of how well Spain have done with them? Because if they are they need to recognise the difference in quality and strength the likes of Silver have over Dyer.

I don't feel any pride in him coming through our academy. He was a ****, shamed the club and I was glad we got rid as soon as.

Good luck to Swansea though. Love how they play. Hope we continue to copy them.

I'm not sure his size has anything to do with it to be fair? Also no-one is remotely suggesting that he's got the same ability as someone like David Silva.

My point was simply that he is having a really good spell at the moment and is causing problems for all sorts of teams in the Premier League. Whenever England play in a major tournament there is always one player that sneaks in under the radar. If he carries on in this rich vein of form then I think he has a decent chance of getting a call up at some stage. However his indiscretion whilst at Saints may hinder him in that respect whilst Fabio Capello is in charge.

There is no point comparing Walcott and Tea Leaf apart from the huge disparity in the money we got for them. I am pleased that Dyer appears to have grown up from the grubbly t**t that used to play for us and now looks to be the player that with us he showed that he could be.
