Could possibly be set to go this window? Must be one of the lowest at £4m of any team in the top 2 divisions apart from the Brighton's, Doncaster's and Barnsleys of the world.

I doubt many expected it to last as long as it has, and I doubt many would rate Delap as one of our better signings although it seemed ok at the time.

Could be an interesting couple of weeks.

I think somebody said on another thread that the £4m back then is now worth about £5.4m
lol - by some very crude attempt at applying inflation to the last fee.

Even if we sign someone for £4.1 million, our record will have been broken.

£4 million may seen low but it was worth a damn sight more 11 years ago when we bought Delap than it is now. So in real terms, signing a player for say £5million now wouldn't really be a record even if the stats say otherwise.

Yes it would be a club record. Even 4 million and 1p would be.

Anyway, back to topic. I think it will be broken this transfer window to get back in top flight.

Our record for signing players with big transfer fees isn't exactly good. Delap, Delgado, Prutton. Let's hope if we do blow our load on Hooper or whoever, he really is worth it.

I see Stoke want to tie Delap to a new 3 year contract, taking him up to age 38!

Prutton didn't cost that much! Delap and Delgado by a mile yeah.

Prior to Delap, it was David Hirst. I was gutted he was able to remain fit as he did. I got a feeling Luis Boa Morte was near to the £2 million aswell. what a waste he was. only thing i can remember bout boa morte, was that handball at middlesbrough.

Everton broke their's four times in four seasons* amounting to just over £40m, having sold Rooney for £25m.

Maybe we should do that with the Chambo money.

Or maybe we shouldn't.

* James Beattie, Andrew Johnson, Yakubu and Fellaini

Clearly the purchase of Delap for 4m was gonna stay as our record purchase for some time - we've been playing most of our football in lower divisions since then. Funny thing is transfer fees were coming down to a realistic amount not long after that, that is until Abramovich came along.

That said we'll prob break our record if we get to the prem. I see is spending but not in a huge way. Bit like Stoke.

This could all be academic, as with our 'hush-hush' approach to transfers we will probably never know about the £35 million spent on Hooper...
Agreed. "Undisclosed" will be our transfer record.

Article below with Prem teams record signings from when Hull were up there - notably the Skate Cheats' record signing was someone they'd already sold for far less once already.

lol.....

Luka Modric has impressed in a difficult season to date for Tottenham

Took some time to adapt, but is starting to show the kind of technique and vision that prompted Spurs to break their transfer record for his services.

Verdict - A class act, but surrounded by no-hopers. Will not be at the Lane for long.

How does that compare (with today's value) for Shearer's transfer to Blackburn in 1992 (£3.4 mill.?)

or even Martin Chivers' £125K to Tottenham in 1967

both these deals were British record transfers ...at the time .
