Renegociation of EU Treaty

The perfect answer for the majority of citizens throughout the United Kingdom calling for a Referendum on Membership of the EU. If Scotland breaks away then England would need to renegociate EU membership. Problem solved for the majority calling for a Referendum.

I don't like the fact that the rest of the UK don't get to vote on wether we want Scotland or not.

It's irrelevant to us though. I think it would be cheeky to give devo-max without some consultancy as to what the English and Welsh(N.I have their own thing going on) would want, as that would affect the way parliament works far more than Independence, but Succession is a matter for Scottish people and Scottish people alone.

Do you think those who are Scottish, but who have settled elsewhere in the UK should get a vote?

I think the whole UK should get to vote, if the rest of the UK want them out the Jocks shouldn't have a choice.

If Cornwall decide to be independent - do we not have any say or is it irrelevant to us?

We can not decide for Scotland if they want independence or not. It is a decision for them alone.

By your logic, if the majority of the the UK voted to kick someone out(say you), that'd be okay. No, it is your decision if you wish to no longer be British or not, not everyone elses.

But England, Wales and northern ireland can vote to remove themselves from the UK and form a new agreement without Scotland - it's no different.

Being part of the UK obviously benefits all four countries, the Scots just have a chip on their shoulder about what has gone on in the past.

It is different, as England/Wales/N.I would be voting to secede and form a new country, not to kick out Scotland.

And saying the Scots have a chip on their shoulder is exactly the kind of language that ****es them off in the first place, making them more inclined towards independence!

I agree with where you're coming from but I don't see it as being a vote about Scotland (from the wider UK perspective).

If the future if MY country is at stake (my country = United Kingdom) then I should have a say on that future.

Calling it a referendum about Scotland at that point is missing the bigger picture.

The SNP's move towards a Scottish referendum has simply acted as a catalyst for asking the BIGGER question to the WHOLE of the UK: "do you want YOUR country (the UK) to stay together or break up?"

That avoids the knee jerk retort: "it doesn't matter to us (the Scottish referendum)"

Of course the future of the United Kingdom matters to me, you and EVERYONE in the UK, ergo we should ALL have a say in it's future.

Simple. As. That
