Gordon Mockles Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 It was less than that, it was around 200k initially we offered for CMS apparently, rest was on add-ons. Pretty insulting! We're also doing clubs heads in with regards to Puncheon, they're coming to us with offers, willing to negotiate, but we want £1m and not a penny less. That's why he always ends up going out on last minuite loans. No club will pay £1m up front for him, never. We also want cash for him and aren't willing to include him in any deal... We seem pretty stubborn to say the least! Can't substantiate what you're saying but sounds like the usual Nicola humility.

Saint Billy Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 I've got a horrible feeling that this transfer window is going to be as frustrating as the summers, in terms of searching for a striker. All I'm hearing is that we don't negotiate, we set a price and if they try and negotiate we back off. We're not creating any fans and are wasting alot of clubs time in our hunt for a striker. You very rarely purchase a player for what you (the buying club) feel he's worth. It doesn't happen unless the selling club is in financial difficulty and you can take advantage of that, otherwise clubs always value their players higher than what the buying club do - especially in January. We're showing a pretty big lack of respect with some of our bids apparently. Yep, I have had the same feeling for a while. Cortese is not a spender and would rather pick up a bargain basement player and hope he turns good. I really hope I have to eat my words but I feel yet again the transfer window for us is going to end up as a big anti climax. Yes the transfer market has gone crazy with mediocre players going for silly money, ok avoid fair enough, but don't get involved in making stupid offers with no chance in hell of getting the deal, that is pure idiotic. This attitude will have to change if we get promoted and want to put together a side that will not be disgraced.

There is only so far we can go with this current bunch of lads, no disrespect to them, but if the target is really established in the premier league then we'll need to spend some decent cash. revolution saint Posted 16 January, 2012 Share Posted 16 January, 2012 Hooper's initial bid was pretty awful to say the least if what I was told is true, less than £1m initial fee, rest on add on's (not sure how much it went up to, but probably lots of clauses that would have taken years to activate) This is pretty vague and not 100% on the truth behind it, but 500k for Whittingham at Cardiff was lodged and laughed out of the room. If we haven't got the money then fine, I'm not bothered....go after more realistic targets! We're wasting everyone's time and creating enemies! There's a flip side to this because if it's true then the figures being bandied around for Hooiveld, Lee, Cork, SDR, Fox etc are unlikely to be as high as some people think as well. Only my opinion but I think we probably do have some cash that we're willing to spend but NC playing hardball doesn't help. The fact that we've managed to sign pretty much everyone on longer contracts seems to suggest that we value players accordingly once they've shown us their worth so I'd hope we aren't too stingy and difficult to deal with. Personally I'm only expecting a loan in a wide position and then a big push for a striker in the final week of the window. The frustrating thing is that by going for players like Sharp, Hooper and Rodriguez does us more harm than good IMO. The important thing is to get them - not just bid for them. Sordell would be my choice if it makes any difference - comparable record to Rodriguez but quicker. Watford have a decent history of producing good strikers as well. I hope for the sake of the club that I am wrong. However, it would be a shame if we did not buy the players we need because the chances of promotion are not easy to come by and we will have to settle for mid table. That said, I do share the disquiet on this front. Either bid for the players or don't. They must have an idea of what a club wants after they've submitted the first bid. At least try and get close if you're going to make another bid.

Matthew Le God Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 So is the Spanish kid the mystery signing?? I would think so, Adkins after the Forest game talked of Tadanari Lee and one other signing before the Leicester game. He also mentioned he wanted another striker in addition to Lee and it seems that is/was Gary Hooper.

If not, does it still look like it's gonna happen or has it all fallen through?

I was aware of that. Doesn't necessarily preclude Falque from being the one if MLT was being a prat! I seem to remember someone mentioning that the signing would surprise English fans, not that the player in question was English. I saw this as an assertion that this was a big signing. May be wrong on that count though as looking at old posts I cant find any from MLT that state this.

Ne news is good news. In my opinion it would be a great signing and just what we need. However apparently a few prem clubs are sniffing around. Matthew Le God Posted 17 January, 2012 Share Posted 17 January, 2012 Give us the position he plays in primarily. I'm sure you could even give his name now as you have just disclosed other clubs are aware, plus I'm sure his agent would be hawking him about. You talked yourself into that!
