Who is this week's mystery signing?

Seems clear no-one really has a clue who Adkins was talking about. I'll just say I seem to recall Adkins talking about the need for defensive help, which is obvious since at present we have only 2 fit CBs *****il Fonte's toe heals, & then we'll only have 3). And Adkins has already signed Lee and says, apart from the player most likely coming in this week, that he's still looking for another striker. So, since we're fine in midfield, my money's on a CB coming in this week, if we do get someone in. No idea who though ...

Like what?

Apart from the Lee signing I can only remember "Beattie to resign" and "Chamberlain done deal to Man Utd". Neither of those happened.

MLT stated that a player was believed to be 80% signed and we had not speculated about the name on here.

NA then said in his interview AFTER MLT had posted that he hoped to bring in a signing this week that was NOT Lee and was NOT Hooper - is another player.

Think that makes his post & info pretty damned accurate TBH.

Jaidi playing for the Reserves tomorrow.

Cork played CB for us and can cover there.

None of us know what the status is with Dan Seaborne either.

Would a loan player actually get much first team action ahead of the players we have? If NA has another Jos lined up then fantastic, but finding a CB as good as we have who is prepared to be cover and do we actually NEED one???????

Wiki

In England, clubs from the Football League Championship to the Football Conference can loan in players from 8 September to 25 November and also from 8 February until 24 March

Adkins has said right from the begining that he was looking for several new signings in January. So I think its fair to say that any of us could have predicted that another face will be coming in.

That's not what Dubai_Phil is saying. Yes anyone could have predicted another signing before the end of the window. But MLT said 80% done, and Adkins says this week, A deal is nearly complete.

How big is MLT's ego?

Wont tell us player that is 80% done as thinks the newspapers track his posts and may scupper any deal with his exclusive.......

Unless he is the real MLT? If so im sorry for the above

I'm struggling to reconcile this with your "Thanks for the PM! OMG if true" response when this was first mentioned. Help me out!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2084454/Kevin-Bruyne-closes-Chelsea-move.htmlIt is understood Chelsea rekindled their interest in De Bruyne after this season’s Champions’ League group games between the teams and that, like keeper Thibaut Courtois before him, he will launch his Stamford Bridge career with a season-long loan at another club.

Stranger things have happened ......

Probably be completely disappointed.

I know Clyne is rated but he was awful against us for Palace recently. He looked neat and tidy but never got forward and looked quite ordinary. Not really observed him in other games to say whether that was a one off. Help me out guys, does he have pace, skill, can he deliver a cross on a sixpence?

Awful in a neat and tidy but ordinary way then?

His positioning was terrible, kept getting caught out really badly by being in just the wrong place at the wrong time. Only thing to save it was his acceleration and pretty good tackling to recover from the mistakes he kept making. I was quite underwhelmed

All the necessary "raw materials" are there - He just needs to be coached well!

We have such a coach at the club of course...

Funny i've seen Clyne a few times this season and think he looks absolute class, far better than what we have and easily good enough for a premiership team. I know a few Palace fans and all of them would be gutted if they lost him and mention him in the same breath as Zaha.

Can't see it happening personally since i think he'll go premiership but it would be a great signing if it did.

Yes but it is less specific than the Audio Boo version posted elsewhere.

Obviously they edit down to fit on an OS page, but sometimes what is left out says something.

Sometimes it doesn't

That was the point

Well maybe but they were hardly likely to put the stuff up about specific players.

Playing for the reserves this week, and being ready to step into a competitive Championjship match, are two very different things: and Jaidi was pretty slow even before his injury. And as you say, no-one knows Seaborne's status or whether he'll play again (no-one on this board at any rate): but if he does play again it won't be very soon as he hasn't turned out for the reserves yet.

Unless Fonte has recovered, an injury to Martin or Hooiveld probably would mean Cork would have to cover at CB, which would hurt us doubly: he isn't a very good CB, and we'd miss his vital influence in midfield! So that's hardly an attractive option.

I'm still betting that, if there is a signing this week besides Lee and the hoped for but not yet close to completion other forward, it'll be a CB, a position we desperately need reinforced.

.........I thought that Cork had a role as a central defender when he was at Chelsea ..or ?

I've got a horrible feeling that this transfer window is going to be as frustrating as the summers, in terms of searching for a striker. All I'm hearing is that we don't negotiate, we set a price and if they try and negotiate we back off. We're not creating any fans and are wasting alot of clubs time in our hunt for a striker.

You very rarely purchase a player for what you (the buying club) feel he's worth. It doesn't happen unless the selling club is in financial difficulty and you can take advantage of that, otherwise clubs always value their players higher than what the buying club do - especially in January.

We're showing a pretty big lack of respect with some of our bids apparently.

Didn't the P'boro chairman, whom I admit is a bit of a character, say we bid £675k for CMS, when all the talk in the media was of much bigger prices? I do hope you're wrong but the little snippets we hear does make it sound like we're a difficult club to work with. Time will tell... I'd still like to think that with cash+puncheon we'll land a target before the window's out, as many have said this could be a history changing fortnight.

It was less than that, it was around 200k initially we offered for CMS apparently, rest was on add-ons. Pretty insulting!

We're also doing clubs heads in with regards to Puncheon, they're coming to us with offers, willing to negotiate, but we want £1m and not a penny less. That's why he always ends up going out on last minuite loans. No club will pay £1m up front for him, never. We also want cash for him and aren't willing to include him in any deal...

We seem pretty stubborn to say the least!

Hooper's initial bid was pretty awful to say the least if what I was told is true, less than £1m initial fee, rest on add on's (not sure how much it went up to, but probably lots of clauses that would have taken years to activate)

This is pretty vague and not 100% on the truth behind it, but 500k for Whittingham at Cardiff was lodged and laughed out of the room.

If we haven't got the money then fine, I'm not bothered....go after more realistic targets! We're wasting everyone's time and creating enemies!

Seems about right based on his performances for Brighton

He's not been great for them and was well over priced, but that's the way football works unfortunately..especially in this country and especially for attacking players. As we showed Arsenal with Chamberlain, the selling club holds all the cards and the buying club can't decide the end fee, even if they feel that's what the player is worth.

Sounds like you have some other information then but only the other day Adkins says he was unaware of a bid that was "leaked" by Puncheons agent

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16550877.stm Seems odd he wouldn't know surely?

I imagine we must have recouped a fair amount in loan fees from JP so I would be of the mind to ship him out cheaper and load up on sell on clauses and the like.

I think that's just typical NA response really, pretty sure Blackpool lodged a formal bid.

We probably have got a fair few bob in loan fees, but I was told in the summer that we wanted £1m for Puncheon and no less and that's why he went on loan again. I wish we could just be done with him and move on to be honest....
