Hooiveld's block, the sending off and Coterill having a hissy fit

Hooiveld is a class act. WTF happens at corners? Morgan switches posts as the ball comes in.

Connolly decision not clearcut. Seen them given red, seem them given yellow although he did lead with his arm so I reckon any appeal is futile (not that I give a fig about that).

Having watched it back a couple of more times, I think it deserved straight red.

It wasn't that long ago that the "authorities" issued a directive that leading with an elbow is a straight red, as it should be. Most refs have let that "clamp down" drift away, as they usually do.

I know this may not be fashionable, and it doesn't change the fact that he's a utter d*ck, but ... if Cotterill was p*ssed-off about players or coaches trying to get fellow pros red-carded or even yellow-carded, I agree with him. I hate it when others do it to us, and I hate it just as much when we do it to them. That just puts us in the same column as turds like Poyet.

Seeing it from that close I reckon Jos was lucky it was only a yellow, had it been a Forest player I would have been screaming for a red.

Their red totally justified, and Cloterill, what a total plank. Being totally found out at this level and will be unemployed very soon.

What a great block by Jos, no doubt about that red card. Clearly leads with his elbow right into Connolly's face the Ref was perfectly placed to see it. Clotrill having a hissy fit what a Pr**K.

Good job Hooiveld foul was so far out, if it had been on the edge of the box he could have seen red himself. Redeemed himself with that fabulous block.

Hooiveld knew what he was doing. Not a cat in hell's chance that would ever be a red.

Not sure if the challenge on Connolly was malicious but he did smack him in the face with his arm so there's no real cause to complain.

Thought the ref was the best ref we've had for a while.

I don't think jos was last man? :?

Watching that clip the red card was less surprising than I thought at first. That was a bad hit coming in with the elbow with such force.

Hooiveld had defenders behind him, so he wasn't last man - the challenge wasn't dangerous so a clear yellow IMHO. His following block was a game-changer.

Cotterill always has to blame someone else for the fact he's underachieved the past two years. No progress with either Pompey or now Forest. Clear elbow on Connolly, and Tudgay went over like he'd been shot in the first 10 mins, just like Derbyshire did in the reverse fixture to try and get a penalty.

Hammond didn't card wave by the looks of it, just pointed out it was an elbow. Kelvin only came running over to break up bodies too. What Hooiveld's tackle for his yellow is doing in there I have no idea, because it was a yellow and no more.

So if someone elbowed your mate in the face you wouldn't remonstrate about it?

You're missing my point, and it has nothing to do with "mates". There's a difference between remonstrating over a bad foul and deliberately trying to get someone carded - especially if the pleas for a card are coming from coaching staff on the bench.

Some will say it's all part of the game these days but IMO it cheapens the sport. That sort of crap comes from people like the Ronaldos, Nanis and Poyets of the world, which is where it's best left.

Have to agree with you on this CanadaSaint. I find it very distasteful when I see other teams doing it, and was particularly critical of Poyet and his Brighton team recently for their gamesmanship in this regard. However, in this instance, I only have Cotterill's say-so that there was anything untoward from our bench or players; and seeing as he has a tendency to see games completely differently from everybody else, I'm not going to put too much faith in that at this time.

To be honest I've gone no problem with players pointing out to refs that they think a card is in order. Should the Saints players show any consideration to a fellow professional (Chambers) in not asking for a red? Chambers didn't show any consideration to another fellow professional (Connelly) when he decided to recklessly lead in with his arm towards his head.
