Avenue Saint Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Well done Saints...Jos played well as did Connolly..... Our midfield three Cork, Morgan and Hammond all in good form... Harding once again did a good job at Right Back.... Good to see Holmes come on but still not enough time to build up match fitness.. I give the MOM to our midfield trio with Morgan shading it with the goal.. Well done Saints.... WIFM I like it ottery! Nice objective post ? RobM Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Got to say as well that Aaron Martin has been excellent since he has come into the team. Not as composed as Fonte but a good solid defender and good to have him involved so he has had some games. Martin does deserve a mention, he has stepped in very well. He doesn't have the same level of experience at this level as Jos or Fonte and that does show, but he has been great for us and is a worthy standby. SaintBobby Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 (edited) I'd like to join in the thanks for whoever found the hahasports link - was great to watch the game. And surely we can't be many years away from this being a standard, official service? Looked like a stroll in the park to me - certainly after the first Saints goal. The central midfield trio were awesome - and having Cork rather than Morgan drfiting down the right seems to work better, which I'm sure will inform NA's tactics in future. Rather pleasingly, it's difficult to pick a MOTM - but I'd probably give it to Connolly. Good link up play, got a goal and generally made a nusiance of himself (I thought the red card was slightly on the harsh side - but only very, very slightly). Happy days. st.sj Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Absolutely superb result. Great to see who got the goals. 2 away wins in a row. Wow. Just what the doctor ordered. Massive shot-in-the-arm for the team. Was the second half against Coventry the seasons turning(back)-point ??? Bloody happy clappers

Our more articulate players like cork, morgan, lallana all seem to play well playing behind him. I personally think he was the key to our special form at start of season when seriously, no one could touch us. If this hooper guy id a younger version of connolly and we end up getting him, and with chappers to come back, things are looking UP big time. Thanks to the stream I thought we controlled the game, got away with it at 0-1 poor miss from Forest - one great block from Jos. Ref gave us a few iffy ones - sending off harsh but if Lamberts was a sending off so was this. Good win, Clotterill made some strange tactical decisions with his subs. Cork my MOM followed by Morgan, Hammond and Jos.
Dalek2003 Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Why are you worried about these teams when you think we're going to finish 17th? Boro and Hull will be miles clear of lower mid-table - you need to be keeping an eye on the Watfords and Peterboroughs. Are you still predicting one win, one draw and 18 defeats from the next 20 league games? Thanks for reminding me. I don't think Posh are a threat as we will gently slide down the table. SaintBobby Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Thanks for reminding me. I don't think Posh are a threat as we will gently slide down the table. But you're sticking to a likely future record of W 1 D 1 L 18 between now and the end of the season? (I think that would surely be the worst run over 20 matches in our 112 years of existence...) That wouldn't be a "gentle slide down the table" (that's what I'm anticipating - I think we'll probably end up 3rd - 5th tbh) - it would be a collapse down the league almost without precedent in the entire history of association football. A excellent result (and just as importantly performance) nevertheless. Well done my Saints ! Apart from the result, I saw very little difference to this performance as we have been playing during our bad run. I thought Forest were very poor and gifted us the first goal then just disappeared when down to 10 men. The one noticeable difference was Cork, excellent in driving us on. Martin took it all in his stride and Hooivelt was the rock. Impressive professional foul on their forward, but done in such a manner that it looked impossible to give a red. We just were not cutting them open and creating quality opportunities apart from the error which allowed Cork the freedom to create. We played a lot of very tight triangles but nothing in the danger zone. I just don't see this as a turn around but delighted to take 3 points, tempered by the fact we threw away 3 against Brighton by stupidity. Guly and Lallana were not much different, Connolly marginally but the midfield did the business this time, with Cork outstanding. Ricky was not missed and little difference between previous and what Connolly put in today. The big plus was that we got the midfield working today and that will always give us a chance but we are not through the woods yet until we start to open up sides again with quality opportunities.
