alpine_saint Posted 14 January, 2012 Author Share Posted 14 January, 2012 On what basis do you think 'a lot of the activity started too late'? Just a hunch? A natural disposition to think the club are incompetant? That's what I'm trying to understand... what reasoning, that I or someone else can appreciate, do you have for this opinion? As for Lee, Adkins also made it quite clear that he has 'red tape' to sort out in Japan... do you know how their border control system works? No, neither do I. So why suspect that NA is again either wrong or lying in that regard too. I don't, however my whole point was why take an automatically negative view in the absence of other evidence, ESPECIALLY given that we KNOW the club try to conduct all their negotiations in private nowadays? Why not actually try believing that the club are being honest and judge them AFTER the window has shut. How would you feel if everyone continually doubted everything you said until you actually produced the goods. It would probably give you inclination to think 'well why should I bother if we're going to be questioned and doubted at every juncture'. The club are bigger than that, but I just think it's a real shame that a clubs fans, the people who are supposed to support and have some faith in their club, should have such an automatically doubtful perspective. As I said, if you can give me some clear reasoning for why you hold this opinion, other than it just being your gut feeling, I might appreciate it a bit more, but it appears to be negativity for the sake of it. I would love to know why opinion gets challenged like this, like a court of law. Just because it goes against consensus ? I dont do it to others. Yes, its a hunch. No, I dont think the management are normally incompetent, but we dont know the framework or culture by which transfer activity is conducted and decided. Maybe we dont do things the right way for such a difficult window as January ? I have already said there is a valid argument about the summer window activity having not been more extensive, but it has contributed to the problems. I believe they are working hard, maybe even flat out now to protect our league top-spot with recinforcement, the question is was this reactive or proactive ???? Minty Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 I would love to know why opinion gets challenged like this, like a court of law. Opinion is there to be challenged and my points have nothing to do with consensus either. It's just me challenging you. I'm actually trying to do you a favour here, to make you see why other people sometimes don't understand your point of view. If you can explain your reasoning then people are more likely to at least respect your point of view, even if they still don't agree with you. As you correctly state, we don't know the framework or culture that the club operate to but as a result I gauge things by what I DO know of the club and how they operate and as a result am happy to put some trust and faith in them that they are trying to do the right thing. Maybe you're right, maybe we don't do things the right way, but given the body of evidence (i.e. all other transfer activity taking place now, and that has taken place in the past) I don't see us doing anything much different to any other club. My opinion on summer window was covered nicely by batterseasaint's earlier post. So I personally don't think there is much a of problem with that either. So to your final question, was it reactive or proactive? My hunch is that is has always been and was always intended to be proactive, with a range of targets in mind for different scenarios, depending on where we find ourselves and what state our squad was in. And that is only a hunch, but once again, I use the evidence to hand, namely Adkins' continual references to working hard behind the scenes, the work he clearly puts in to prepare for each game and to analyse opponents, and his academic background. Align that with Cortese's obviously very focused (and sometimes controversial) business mind and the 5-year-plan, then I think there is strong evidence to suggest we would be proactive. Fan The Flames Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Yes, it revealled the lack of depth in the squad that management team should have known about and done something about. For example, Barnard has been injured for a long time, Connolly has not been reliable to be fit since he got here, and NA has had enough looks at Forte. Gonna be an interesting starting line-up tomorrow. Is Goolie really fit, as the Echo claims ? Three nil away from home.
Minty Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 Having heard today's post match interview, I wonder how you feel now Alps... given that we are clearly still working behind the scenes to bring players in and Adkins says we should bring in another player this coming week? wessex saint Posted 14 January, 2012 Share Posted 14 January, 2012 I'm still waiting for Dalek to admit he doesn't know anything about football. mmm.. Saints doing their best to match Dalek's prediction of 17th. NOT!! Actually... not seen Dalek on here tonight defending his increasingly polarised and quite frankly ridiculous views. los_saint Posted 15 January, 2012 Share Posted 15 January, 2012 Better than I have done since about the beginning of December. Perhaps we'll see this reflected in some of your posts from now on. We're in a position that no Saints fan would have predicted at the start of the season and have an amazing chance of being promoted to the PL (possibly even as champions). Let's take a leaf out of NA's book and stay positive. We could win this league FFS!!!

Funny that We might have got a win but it is a long season. We are well on course for 17th. You might think I am alone in my prediction, but I was brave enough to go it alone. You will see that I AM RIGHT AS i NORMALLY AM. 90% of posters on this forum are deluded.

Reminds me of the joke about the bloke driving down the motorway the wrong way who thinks "there's a lot of idiots out on the road tonight."
