CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 To go with the 'Best Band' thread. For me worst band ever - PULP! You've clearly never heard this then: In spite of this crime against music, he's still a bit of a hero of mine.
Orange Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 They're decent (ish)! Where to start.. I'll get the ball rolling with the ting tings, or whatever that brat was called.

pap Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Joe Dolce No contest Amongst his other crimes this song kept (at the time) Ultravox's classic Vienna off the number one spot If we're counting novelty songs, I'll see your Joe Dolce and raise you a Mr Blobby.
Gemmel Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wczUzC3ksg ha ha, just wrong
Crazy Diamond Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Doing covers is fine, but making a career out other's people music is not. Neither is covering 'Going Underground' when you're playing in Woking, hometown of Paul Weller. Bunch of ****s.
Colinjb Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Aqua anyone? No, at least they were up front bubblegum pop. And 'Turn Back Time' was a genuinely good little pop song.
Durleyfos Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Joe Dolce No contest Amongst his other crimes this song kept (at the time) Ultravox's classic Vienna off the number one spot I love Joe Dolce for this alone. I hate the song 'Vienna'

Huffton Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Scissor Sisters. What they did to Comfortably Numb warrants the return of public execution
hamster Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 If we are talking of overrated then for me The Who are right up there. Soloists? Diana Ross, cannot stand the woman's voice.

Essruu Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Michael Jackson. He was just a bad pantomime without his brothers.

Quickfire Double Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 Scissor Sisters. What they did to Comfortably Numb warrants the return of public execution A very good shout, that. And to answer the question: the work of The Lighthouse Family has always had a way of boiling my **** in record time!

Crazy Diamond Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 If we are talking of overrated then for me The Who are right up there. Blasphemy. Plain blasphemy. Scissor Sisters. What they did to Comfortably Numb warrants the return of public execution Yes, and yet David Gilmour said he liked it. Then went back on his word to tour with them. Covering Pink Floyd is up there with treason.
Hamilton Saint Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 If we are talking of overrated then for me The Who are right up there. Soloists? Diana Ross, cannot stand the woman's voice. Man, you are way off today! The Who was one of the greatest singles bands ever. Get the album Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy. It was their first compilation of all the classic 60s singles. Brilliant! And Who's Next - a superb album. You're just being silly - or you've never really listened to them!
alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 REM are f**king sh*t. Spitting Image had it right when they did a spoof of "Shiny Happy People" called "Whiny Cr*ppy Music"
Dr Who? Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 No but these threads are based on opinion! Ok I know they are, but I can still disbelieve as people are full of **** on here as well. I take on board your opinion and say that you are in the minority that think they are the worse band EVER!
Dr Who? Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 REM are f**king sh*t. Spitting Image had it right when they did a spoof of "Shiny Happy People" called "Whiny Cr*ppy Music" All about opinion as someone else said..... But again I whole heartedly disagree, one of the greats.

jjsaint Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 (edited) The Sha ggs - 60s girl group. Hard to find their music, but if you do, you'll never forget it. They have a couple of dowloadable tracks on iTunes and a handful of YouTube clips such as the one below... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InpCzx5OQRU Edited 12 January, 2012 by jjsaint Oversensitive swear filter
The Cat Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 REM are f**king sh*t. Spitting Image had it right when they did a spoof of "Shiny Happy People" called "Whiny Cr*ppy Music" Shiny Happy People is undoubtedly a horrible song, but REM aren't crap, their early stuff up until Green is decent, and even after that they have written some good songs. I mainly have issues with bands that I believe are hideously overrated such as Abba, Queen and Oasis.
Crazy Diamond Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 Arctic Monkeys. Inspired a whole cult of morons at my college. They're everything I despise about modern music. They're not funny, they're not clever, and they're certainly not entertaining.
pap Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 Arctic Monkeys. Inspired a whole cult of morons at my college. They're everything I despise about modern music. They're not funny, they're not clever, and they're certainly not entertaining. Was a bit wary of this lot on account of the hype, but I disagree with you, at least on their first album. Don't really think that they're trying to be funny as such, more like trying to capture what its like to be twenty-something in England. However, there's nothing more offputting about a band than fans who are nobs, so I have some sympathy for your position. As someone who just listened to them on his iPod, I really liked them.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 There's obviously a pile of crap out there and always has been. Freddie and the Dreamers anyone......... But the most over rated, and therefore in my eyes the worst "serious" band of all time has to be Queen. I just dont get the hero like status they seem to endure. Slade were 100 times better,so even in their "peak" they were shiete. As for bohemian rhapsody, dont even get me started, the most pretentious load of ******** ever written and people study it like it's some sort of great work of art. Dont like U2, but can see why people do. Worst artists; Jackson-Cant understand how he's got away with it. Should have been locked up years ago, in the Glitter file in my opinion. Kylie-Nice arse, but no talent. Sting (last 10 years) A complete and utter plum..........
LVSaint Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 No you didn't, you clearly don't have your own opinions and type what Ess says, SAD! Hmm. I do have my opinions just couldn't be arsed to type anything when cut n' pasting a perfectly good sentence was all too easy. Duh! (BTW - what did I say that Ess had said?) Are you still upset with Cocker’s cheeky upstaging of Jacko when he was ‘performing with children’ at the Brits all those years ago?

Indeed, when it inspires teens in New York to put on Yorkshire accents, that's when I feel sick.
pap Posted 12 January, 2012 Posted 12 January, 2012 Indeed, when it inspires teens in New York to put on Yorkshire accents, that's when I feel sick. That's actually pretty funny. Fake Tales of San Francisco, a song on their first album, is all about people who pretend to be from somewhere else. He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar I don't quite know the distance But I'm sure thats far Yeah I'm sure thats pretty far And yeah, I'd love to tell you all of my problem You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham So get off the bandwagon, and put down the handbook

Maybe so but I don't like their sound, to my ears a faux angry noise penned to please. No prob with that as I guess every artist needs a formula, just not my cup of tea. I have no problem with others liking them though. When they Played the Rose Bowl I won tickets and in all honesty took 7 phone calls to mates before I could offload them!
Hamilton Saint Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Maybe so but I don't like their sound, to my ears a faux angry noise penned to please. No prob with that as I guess every artist needs a formula, just not my cup of tea. I have no problem with others liking them though. When they Played the Rose Bowl I won tickets and in all honesty took 7 phone calls to mates before I could offload them! Granted - but I'm talking about the 60s/early 70s-era band. They were an early pioneer of the power-trio format - no rhythm guitar, just drums, bass and lead guitar. But what a trio - the free-form, manic drumming of Keith Moon, the assertive bass-playing of Entwhistle, and the flailing, in-your-face guitar of Pete T. As far as the material goes, I would hardly refer to Pete's writing as "faux-angry". And certainly not designed to please. He did want he wanted. His stuff is intelligent: sometimes angry, sometimes sensitive. And back in he 60s (before the the dominance of the LP), the band focused primarily on the singles market and produced a variety of very distinctive 45s.
