Saint_Jonny Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 (edited) Right, seeing as I just spaffed £30 on a ticket for this game I thought I'd start a thread for it! I ummed and arred for a while about going but after Saturdays win I decided to nab myself a ticket. Looking forward to it now having never been to the City Ground before (done Notts County though so finding it should be easy enough!). Is this our strongest available team? -----------Davis Richardson - Martin - Hoiveld - Fox De Ridder - Cork - Morgan - Lallana Guly - Connolly If José is fit he will come back into the side, and the above assume Guly, Conners' and De Ridder are all back fit too. If not, we will look a bit light weight. Forest have picked up (a little bit) having been on a terrible run of form over the xmas period, getting a draw in the cup against Leicester at the weekend, and a first League win in ages the weekend before that. I'd take a draw from this one, but given that forest have proven them selves to be slightly lacking under Steve Cotteril so far, maybe we could go all out for the win. Golden Balls Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 I dont think a draw is enough in this game if we want to go up in the top 2. We have a difficut run and I see this as one of the more 'winnable' games

CylonKing Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 Bought my tickets this morning. This is a local match for me seeing as I'm just down the road from the City Ground. Taking my 7 year old niece to this game as well to try and get her supporting Saints in the future. I just hope we beat Forest otherwise the next week in work is going to be excruciating. doddisalegend Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 No doubt I'll get shot down but are Forest much better than Coventry (league table suggests not) considering how well the makeshift team in the cup did (once they started playing a more comfortable formation in the second half) I won't be to adverse to keeping Ward-prowse or Hoskins in the team considering injuries and suspensions. I think he did well but ideally I'd rather see Harding at LB not RB (unless we have no choice). Davis back in for Bart and keep the midfield as it was. Chez Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 People shouldn't just look at the table and prejudge Forest. They have been all over sides, not scoring goals and getting done on the break. They are still a decent side and gave us a run for our money at SMS. If Miller hadn't been injured in the second half I don't think we would have won that game. That said I think he's still injured so we have a good chance if we play like we did at Brighton up to the sending off. I hope we do ourselves justice as I'm driving up with the Forest supporting brother in law so it could be a long drive back for one of us.

S-Clarke Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 Forest are miles better than their position suggests. Players like Camp, Cohen, Wes Morgan, Chambers, Gunter etc...don't go from being amongst the best players at this level to utter dross. They've been badly managed for sure, but they'll be a threat for anyone at this level. The only area for them that is weaker this season is up top. They don't have a prolific out and out goal scorer and never replaced Earnshaw, Blackstock is still coming back from a serious injury so he will take time to bed back in. We have shown we still carry a threat without Lambert, albeit a weaker one, but we can still cause them problems. I'd play with Width and attack their full backs, because if we give Gunter the space down the flank he will just over lap, over lap and overlap all game long. Will be tough and it will take a massive effort to ensure we're still top by the close of play.
Jack Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 This will be my 6th attempt at seeing Saints pick up a win on the road. I think we'll do it this time. I know Cov are sh*t but I'm hoping that the 2nd half showing has given the lads a bit of a boost and reminded them how to win an away game. K,Billy's supersound Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 think it will be a tough game for us but one we can most certainly win keep it tight at the back and take our chances for a 1-0 or 2-0 win. -----------Davis Richardson - Fonte - Hoiveld - Harding Guly - Cork - Hammond - Lallana/Fox De ridder - Connolly Fonte in for Martin if fit. Harding did well in the cup game and deserves to retain his place imo. u could drop lallana for fox or if need replace him at some point in the game. think it might be worth trying de ridder up top and use his pace on the counter rather than try and rely on guly winning the ball in the air and holding it up. if it does not work then they can always swap postions with each other throughout the game

Jack Posted 9 January, 2012 Share Posted 9 January, 2012 Course it is. Draw and a home win is bang on for top 2. Just worry about the 46 game points total, nothing else. Disagree. It's very unlikely that we'll repeat our home form, so we really need to pick up wins away from home, especially against the sides who are struggling. We've got a lot of tough away games coming up, we'll be losing a few, so need to win a few.

Charlie Wayman Posted 10 January, 2012 Share Posted 10 January, 2012 This is a must win game after our poor form over the last 8 and probably our last chance to stay top. Can't see any sort of result myself with a disrupted and partially demoralised team, so I'm down at William Hill's for a 3-0 defeat.
