Dr Who? Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 On sky sports news he did not give much away, apart from we are of course interested. I do not think we will get him, as he is an important part of the Celtic team. If I was as fan of Celtic and we lost our star striker to an English championship side I would not be happy. Even though we are probably on par with them on a football pitch, as a club they are much bigger, it just gives out all the wrong signals to there fans and the football world,
Pilchards Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 I was told yesterday that the club hope to wrap up a deal for one of two strikers that we have been linked with Sordell or Jay Rod in the next few days, this Hooper & Rhodes is to put pressure on Burnley & Watford to accept our offer or we will go elsewhere. Very interesting tactics and I will believe it when I see it.

Mouldy Coat Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 If you look at the statistics, Sordell and Jay Rod both average circa a goal every 4 games. Trotta Whilst arguably untried at this level has a better goals to games ratio, capped at u18 Italy, and would be much cheaper than the others. From what I've seen recently, his goalscoring looks the part and I think he would be worth a punt. Hooper number 1 target followed by Trotta for me

jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Graeme Bailey from sky is doing a transfer debate online at the moment @SkyGraemeBailey I am hearing rumours #saintsfc using hooper bid to hurry up burnley and watford on bids for jay rod and sordell. Any truth? I don't think they will give up on Hooper, but I can't see Celtic selling this month. I know they are one of those in for Sordell but not sure they will push that. Rodriguez they like too, but think both are back-up options at the moment. by Tweet me @skygraemebailey 12:08 PM

Latheal Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Update from my Celtic colleagues. Apparently there was a Q&A with Lennon last night. One of the guys asked about Hooper and apparently Lowell (Celtic chairman) had told Lenno to tell the agent "no, and don't call back." There's still quite a bit of worry up there as there seems to be a consensus that 8mil might be enough to tempt them, 10mil definitely would. A lot of it has been through the Agent who seems to be pushing this hard. Celtic can't match the wages and won't talk about new contract until the summer, although Lennon apparently has been trying to get a better contract for him. Again, not ITK, just posting back what I heard. I honestly can't see it happening.
Soggy Bottom Posted 20 January, 2012 Share Posted 20 January, 2012 Asked Agent 46 on Twitter if he thought Hooper would be joining Saints his reply was: "gut feeling says no, but Lambert and Hooper would be a Prem strike force to fear"

How would us bidding for Hooper make them look and say ''Oh no, they're not going to buy rodrquez as they've got another target. Quick, let's sell him to Southampton'' At the end of the day it's not like Rodriquez's price is going to drop, he'll gain value as he gets older. Makes no sense. We've only been top for 4 months now, very poor I have never implied he is a **** manager, just that i do believe he has failings. When you look back at this season the only thing that will be recorded will be who got promoted, not the side that stayed top for 4 months(i strongly suspect that we will not be top after Saturday unfortunately). Our home form has been fantastic, thankfully, because our away form has been pretty poor until very recently. We have been very fortunate that many of the sides tipped for promotion and to give us a run for our money have seriously underperformed. This transfer window is crucial to where could come at the end of the season,we have looked on occasions to be lacking when it come to injuries and suspensions are effecting the squad. If we blow promotion from here who would you blame?....i for one would look towards Adkins and Cortese. We must get the right people in,only Adkins can make that decision of who he targets....lets hope they are more in line with a improvement to what we have and not a Forte,Bignall,N'gussan and i would even add De ridder to that list. In the summer it was reported we were after all and sundry when it came to attacking options, none materialised....lets hope Tadanari does not fall into the catagory of player i have already mentioned. You cant force a player to sign or a club to sell......but you can influence that in the way you operate with the people you are trying to deal with. There are suggestions in certain quarters that we don't necessarily go about it in the correct manner.

The only way it would make sense if there is any evidence to suggest Burnley need to sell due to financial issues and as I don't think they are desperately trying to get rid of him, the whole idea of bidding for Hooper to hasten a Rodriguez transfer is insane. This article on their o/s shows their P & L for the last 5 years. http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/page/LatestHeadlines/0,,10413~2518841,00.html Their 1 year in the PL (£14,447,000) has covered the losses in the previous years getting to the top flight. They then made a loss last year of £4M. Therefore IMO I think they will need to sell in the summer if not before. Some quotes from the report This level of expenditure is not sustainable in the Championship. We will address these costs in 2011/12, whilst maintaining as strong a squad as possible to enable us to compete for promotion again. This challenge, to eliminate our borrowings, is matched by the challenge presented by the intentions of the Football League Championship teams to introduce "Financial Fair Play" regulations under which all teams have to break even. At the time of writing, the final operation of the new regulations and the sanctions to be levied for non compliance are still to be finalised, but, apart from the season we were in the Premier League, our club has not broken even on an operational basis in any season in recent times. We therefore have considerable work to do over the next few years to ensure we match our costs to our revenues which, if we remain in the Championship, will decline considerably over the next 3 years as the FAPL parachute funding diminishes.
