Gary Hooper

IF (and that's a big if) we do sign Hooper I have slightly mixed emotions. How many times in the past have we had our star players taken from under our noses? Now the boots on the other foot I can't help but think how we used to feel when the roles were reversed.

Yes, it's not a good feeling. It is however dog eat dog and just so long we are not bankrupting ourselves in the process then why not enjoy it!

Tom Coull @TomCoull

Out at the training ground for pre-Leicester press, keeping an eye on Sky Sports peeps making sure they don't go wandering about #suspicious

Hmm. Now what could we be worried about them seeing?

Maybe it's time for me to make a visit?

problem is I don't know what he looks like and I even won't if he walked past me unless he has a cone on his head.

Who is Tom Coull? (I'm assuming he's not the Australian wine grower google is quite keen on).

Oooooh hooper hooper he used to be a fenian but he's alright now.

Wouldn't have had you down as a small minded bigot Dune. That has come completely out of the blue.

Anyway, what are you doing here? I thought you hated this forum and only wanted to play with your friends in the childrens section. Are they all at school?

@skysports Skysports understands Southampton are readying a new bid for Celtic striker Gary Hooper #saintsfc #Celticfc

Nothing new really...

Sky Sports understands Southampton are readying a new bid for Celtic striker Gary Hooper.

Southampton have made Hooper their top target in this month's transfer window as they look to bring in a new striker.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins is a huge admirer of the forward having worked with him at S****horpe and is keen to be reunited at St Mary's.

Celtic have already rejected a couple of offers from Saints for Hooper, who has scored 16 goals this season, as Neil Lennon looks to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

Lennon is reluctant to lose his star striker as they fight for the SPL title and has claimed it would take silly money to make him part with Hooper.

Southampton are thought to have had offers £4million and £6million rejected by Celtic, but they are now ready to come back with an improved bid to try and persuade the Bhoys to do business.

Love it.

Even if he doesn't sign it will unsettle Celtic and sends out a clear message that they are small fry. A second tier English club calling the shots over a mighty SPL team.

So proud.

Not for sure but a young celtic player for celtic reserves (who I know) who I texted this morning said he was.

Perhaps neil Lennon has told all his players that if any body asks about certain players , to tell them they are at the training ground.

He almost certainly is in Glasgow. If Sky is saying we are only just preparing for a new bid, there is no way he will be down here discussing a contract.

His name has been mentioned to me before christmas and since by a few people close to the club. Nothing concrete has been said but I think there is more chance of that than Hooper.

Christ. Really, really hope not.

Sky might be wrong, they have been before - he could easily be here. I'd like to think the two clubs have ways and means of operating without media finding it all out. That said, I do find it difficult to believe he is in Southampton when all we have to go on is one supposed sighting. All the evidence points to you being correct.

CELTIC have agreed a deal in principle to sign Nigerian international playmaker Rabiu Ibrahim who has been labelled Africa's answer to Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

ANTHONY STOKES meanwhile confessed Gary Hooper has a “big decision” to make – and then urged his strike pal to pledge his future to Celtic.

Southampton are desperate to land Hooper this January and are prepared to pay over £6 million to get their man.

The ambitious Championship side could treble Hooper’s wages in one swoop and give Celtic a £4 million profit in 18 months on the former S****horpe striker.

But while Stokes is delighted at the recent transformation under Lennon, he knows it would be folly to think the hard work has been done.

The Dubliner is also aware it would be extremely dangerous to read too much into the financial uncertainty at Ibrox and the need for Rangers to offload players in the January window.

He said: “They have their own worries over there but just look at the way they have been playing in the last few weeks. They have been doing reasonably well and winning games and it is obviously not affecting them that much.

We know it’s going to be a battle to the end of the season so we have to keep playing well.

“I think the club is always looking at players and looking to strengthen but the squad we have at the moment is very strong.

“Maybe up front is the only place where we are a little short. I don’texpect anything but I think if we get an injury up front then we might be a little light.”

Of more concern to Stokes is the need to ensure his strike partner, Gary Hooper, remains at Parkhead beyond the end of the month.

Southampton have already made three bids for Hooper and are prepared to triple his current £12,000-a-week pay packet in a bid to lure him to theChampionship.

Stokes is only too well aware of the riches on offer down south, having turned down the chance to sign for Celtic first time around when he opted to join Sunderland.

Hooper now faces a similar dilemma and must decide whether he wants to play in the Champions League and attempt to win trebles or simply treble his earnings. Stokes said: “I have no idea about the money side of things and what might get his attention.

“Fingers crossed he will still be here come the end of the transfer window.

“It’s all down to his personal ambition. When I went to Sunderland I was a bit too young and not mature enough to handle it.

“From my point of view if you stay at a club like Celtic you have the European games and the chance to become a fans’ favourite if you do well. I think any player wants to win trophies.

“It is a big decision he has to make. But up here you have the chance to win titles and as a footballer you want to win as much as possible.

“I would be very disappointed if he went but it is part and parcel of football and if he does go then we have to get on with it.”

Despite the continued speculation surrounding his future Stokes does not expect Hooper’s form to suffer. He added: “He is a massive player for us. Look at him on Saturday against Dundee United. He has one chance and scores one goal. I think the club will do everything they can to hold on to him.

“As far as I’m aware he is happy here and enjoying his football, but I don’t know what he is thinking.

“It can be unsettling for a player so I’m glad it has nothing to do with me. But at the weekend he didn’t look like a player who was unsettled.

“I get on well with him and he’s a great lad to have around the place. I hope he stays.

“He’s still a young player and is only going to get better.”
