Gary Hooper

Right, where's that Sordell thread.

Are Watford bigger than us? Are they better than us? How good is the league they play in?

They could get relegated this year.

If they get a really low points total, they will be relegated to the SPL instead of L1.

Celtic’s Gary Hooper has responded to speculation about his future by insisting he is happy in Glasgow.

Several clubs are thought to be tracking the striker and Southampton have made enquiries about a possible transfer.

Hooper says that transfer talk does not concern him and he does not want to move.

“I’m very happy,” he told Celtic’s official website.

“I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team.

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now. I’m just focusing on football - training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.”

All this means is that he is not about to put transfer request in that forfeits him a share of the fee. Thats all. Does not mean Celtic will not sell him if the price is right.

Thats that then!

Maybe but there is so much politics involved in transfers you have to treat everything with a pinch of salt. A statement like this helps protect the player against a fan backlash should any deal fall through. Or it might be completely genuine.

I'd be surprised if Hooper had never should any interest in joining however, most clubs sound this out before making a bid.

Is this another forward that doesn't want to come here then, as well as Rodriguez, Maynard and Sharp.

It would be easy to be fed up about this.

I don't think it's the end of the world. Hooper not wanting to leave one of the biggest clubs in the world for us is no biggy. Sharp has just turned down Leicester because they wouldn't meet his silly wage demands either and Maynard is clearly holding out for a Premiership club.

As for Rodriguez, didn't we pull the plug on that over the daft fee they were demanding?

I'm afraid to say that these strikers all fit into the category of players we absolutely COULD sign over the summer IF we do get promotion, but simply won't want to join us unless that is the case.

This is why, even if we come straight back down, promotion would be huge for the overall progress of the football club. We may have to do an up-down-up-stayup kinda routine a la Sunderland/West Brom.

Club makes enquiry

Enquiry rebuffed

Club makes an offer

Offer refused

Manager says sell him over my Dead Body

Player says "I'm happy here"

Because at this point, there is actually no Bid on the table and so OF COURSE they will say that (Media management training page one - keep all options open).

Club comes back with raised bid.

Game changes.

Still some legs left in this IMHO

probably Nathan Dyer sized legs as opposed to Peter Crouch sized, but still some legs there

But it's a handful of players who we couldn't get, for whatever reason.

so much for him putting in a transfer request because he so wants to join Saints then.

I'm not that bothered I'm sure he's a decent player but 7.5m decent? I'm not so sure. I want players who really want be here if a player isn't excited about wearing the red and white .....I don't want him.
Spurs got Rafael Van der Vaart for £8 million, to put that fee into perspective.

He is talking to Celtic about an improved deal. This statements fits well with that. If they dont agree / concede to the pressure he and his new agent are building up on them, he can easily say "I really wanted to stay, I was happy there and the club had promised me a better deal, but then they went back on that and I dont know why. Its obvious now they see things differently to me, and perhaps wanted to sell me after all, so I have to consider my options"

And Andy Carroll was £35....You can always use facts to back up an arguement. he is a good player, not sure he is worth £7.5m though. I guess he is if he takes us up and does well in the prem but you cant promise that.

If this is true then I don't understand why Saints have been fannying around making bids for him for the last 2 weeks. Either Hooper is lying, or else NA and NC have wasted a lot of precious time. Let's hope it's the former!

Or Celtic have just waved a big wage increase under his nose, one that we will not match!

hoping it's a smokescreen for the mighty J-Rod- i think he's the one they really want....

burnley wouldn't be able to turn down £6.5m- 14 goals now and a decent finish at the wkend- he is definitely worth breaking our record for...

Sounds like your grasping at straws some what with the smoke screen thing, Adkins wanted Hooper and quite right too. Going after a high profile striker who's proven at a high level but wanting a relatively unproven player doesn't make much sense and could make whoever we sign feel like second best.

Your not the only one to believe in this tactic though...IMO that's crap.
