St Jim Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 I'm not sure this deal will happen given Celtic's apparent valuation of him but seeing how wound up the Celtic fans are getting this rumor is worth keeping contributing to.
Foxstone Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16560707.stm Looks as though we are serious !

Saint Garrett Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 If they're considering not playing him because 'the speculation is unsettling him' then that to me says we are very serious about it and I don't think he would turn down the opportunity to come to us...time will tell I guess.
Dig Dig Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16560707.stm Looks as though we are serious ! Does he always look so chunky or is that an unflattering picture? Looks like he needs the Adkins diet asap!
revolution saint Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16560707.stm Looks as though we are serious ! To be fair that's only what NA said after the game on Saturday - it's not really anything we don't already know and the bit about expecting a further bid is just speculation.
buctootim Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Cant help thinking this is all part of a carefully choreographed dance arranged weeks or months ago.
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Strange that we're being a bit more open about our transfer targets this window. Any dealings are normally done in total secrecy.
Foxstone Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Strange that we're being a bit more open about our transfer targets this window. Any dealings are normally done in total secrecy. The only reason this one is in the public domain is because Lennon opened his gob !
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 The only reason this one is in the public domain is because Lennon opened his gob ! Plenty of chatter from Adkins about it as well.
kpturner Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Does he always look so chunky or is that an unflattering picture? Looks like he needs the Adkins diet asap!A barrel of muscle with a David Hirst @rse
Golden Balls Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Same here, I travel a round trip of 240 miles to every home game. It's not unusual to have season ticket holders living a fair distance from the club. Indeed. I'm a STH and do a 310 mile round trip for home games and i know a couple more down here that do the same.
Saint Garrett Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 I think it's pretty hard to keep things quiet though if you're at the top of the Championship looking to spend relatively big, especially if you're going after Celtics main player and top goalscorer.
hypochondriac Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Plenty of chatter from Adkins about it as well. Adkins only spoke about it after the interviewer mentioned was Lennon had been saying.
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 I remember a while back when we were in the Premiership that a survey was conducted amongst ST holders from all Prem teams about the distance they travelled for games and our average came out as one of the highest.

Foxstone Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Plenty of chatter from Adkins about it as well. Well thank god we are not West Ham then - So many press leaks there that I've lost track of the number of players they are buying this window

Yep - same survey that found Man United to have one of the biggest "local" supports in the Prem too. Obviously that doesn't stop morons coming out with the same "not a long trip for United fans to us today, Surrey's only up the road lol"
spyinthesky Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Well, according to some reports, Hooper apparently is going to hand in a transfer request today. Time to measure some of the potential bs against some of the reality! Presume Hooper is English? likely to be wanting to get his exit visa sorted before he is nationalised post devolution!!

JackanorySFC Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Will try and find that survey in a bit. It won't stop the morons in the Northam being all witty and singing "do you come from Andover" at the Munichs though!
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 It won't stop the morons in the Northam being all witty and singing "do you come from Andover" at the Munichs though! It's a well known fact that Andover is a Southampton town. Full of well dressed, game lads.
Appy Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 It's a well known fact that Andover is a Southampton town. Full of well dressed, game lads. Why thank you.
Dog Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Yes the Mancs do have a very large percentage of local fans, but with gates of 75,000 half of that would be considered a very large local fanbase.

Man Utd have more season ticket holders based in Manchester than Citeh but in all fairness, they do have about 20,000 more ST holders.

Saint Garrett Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 I said i cant see it happening afterwhat Lennon said at the weekend. He replied : JamesNursey true but reckon adkins will probably have spoken to him and player will be keen. depends on celtic letting him go
buctootim Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 "I'm happy at Celtic" http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011 Pretty categoric if accurate
sussexsaint Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 "I'm happy at Celtic" http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011 God , how many of those have we seen from Saints players just hours before they are kissing another badge
miserableoldgit Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Who is this James Nursery bloke? He`s a plant.
Norm Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Because Rangers do, and Celtic are their blood brothers. Or something. Oh dear! There I was thinking you knew a little about football. How silly of me.
Saint Garrett Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 The article with Hooper gives me the impression he won't be going anywhere. Surprised if he leaves now, he could have just said nothing. I reckon they have been in talks but he's not going to come so has stated he will be staying...just a thought though.
CWD Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 "I'm happy at Celtic" http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011 If this is true then I don't understand why Saints have been fannying around making bids for him for the last 2 weeks. Either Hooper is lying, or else NA and NC have wasted a lot of precious time. Let's hope it's the former!
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 "I'm happy at Celtic" http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011 In that case, expect him to be a Saints player in 24hrs...
Prince Jazzbo Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 (edited) "I'm happy at Celtic" http://www.celticfc.net/newsstory?item=2011 Happy in Paradise?.....He needs to get out more. I'm happy in my current job, but if someone offered me a better one I'd probably take it. Edited 16 January, 2012 by Prince Jazzbo
buctootim Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Oh dear! There I was thinking you knew a little about football. How silly of me. Im sure you've had bigger whoosh's, but this one is right up there.
Dig Dig Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Hooper just released a statement on SSN......he's staying at Celtic
This Charming Man Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Hooper just released a statement on SSN......he's staying at Celtic What did he say?
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 16 January, 2012 Author Posted 16 January, 2012 Is Neil Lennon stood there behind him with a gun aimed at his head? Sounds like we'd be wasting our time in this window going back but in the summer, if we were a Prem outfit, that could change. In the meantime, Marvin Sordell anyone?
pap Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 Hooper just released a statement on SSN......he's staying at Celtic While this is not the death-knell for this transfer, pretty close. Cue the sounds of a million battered Mars bars hitting deep fat fryers in celebration.
Dig Dig Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 What did he say? Happy at Celtic, not looking to move away, just wants to focus on playing and scoring for Celtic.....all pretty generic really.
pap Posted 16 January, 2012 Posted 16 January, 2012 What did he say? Celtic’s Gary Hooper has responded to speculation about his future by insisting he is happy in Glasgow. Several clubs are thought to be tracking the striker and Southampton have made enquiries about a possible transfer. Hooper says that transfer talk does not concern him and he does not want to move. “I’m very happy,” he told Celtic’s official website. “I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now. I’m just focusing on football - training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.”
