To be fair if he gets us promoted £9mill would be money well spent.

It's an obscene amount of money for one player, I doubt it's true anyway. I realise the transfer market has moved on, and the Championship is a very strong league and prices are matching that, but no. £9 million for one player in the Championship? That's absurd.

50 goals in 95 games for S****horpe, 38 in 65 for Celtic. That's an awesome record.

Unless we're using the publicity of these bids to hurry along another transfer I reckon there is a chance we can land him. The club will know if he wants to come or not so wouldn't bother bidding if he'd prefer to stay in Scotland.

As good as Rickie's record who cost 1m?

IF he hands in a transfer request then of course that will completely change matters. Lennon will be able to play the 'he wanted to go, so we had to let him, we only want people committed to the cause etc etc' and he saves face.

Wonder if Jos has had a word?

I am genuinely stunned, when this was first mentioned I though 'yeah yeah, media hype' to have its confirmed by Adkins today was astonishing, when we announced we weren't interested in Sharp et al it didn't really occur to me that was because we were looking at options significantly above that level

Jos & Hooper are good friends and keep in touch.....

While I'm not usually of the "spend, spend, spend" club I do think that smashing our record fee on this guy could be very good business. Don't forget we have the Oxlade-Chamberlain money to spend, Hooper has a hugely impressive goal ration including Championship (with a team that struggled), and crucially as a young English player he will have significant on-selling value if we wish in a couple of years. Not suggesting we would want to sell him on, but merely that this plays a big part in determining value.

I thought it was convenient that he got himself suspended during the transfer window. Knew he wanted out! Would have much more respect for him if he just said so.

I'm still struggling to understand why we'd go for both Lee and Hooper in the same window when we have Rickie and when we have other areas to strengthen as well - unless the "powers that be" aren't sure that we'll have Rickie.

Not doubting Hooper's ability ,but is it me or does he look pretty overweight?

In the same way Lambert looks overweight to opposition fans, yes.

Billy Sharp looks a bit of a porker as well. But in truth both he and Hooper - if they're in your team - might be described as sturdy or stocky."Fat bastard" if in the opposition side.

Against some pretty hot opposition this has got to count as one of the dumbest comments ever on this board

I agree if we were after yet another striker we would be after someone with pace not the same type of player as of Lee/Lambert, i think we are after a right/left midfielder and maybe a young pacey striker. You could have a point about Rickie, maybe we have had a good offer for him, im sure we'll find out this week whatever happens.

he's certainly scored some goals but the youtube video of him doesn't half show a lot of tap ins (admittedly the further you go in the better the quality of finish). I just wonder if he has the ability to create a yard for himself to be able to score in the Prem? He also doesn't look like a big target man to me. He's certainly not a big tall lad. £4m maybe, but £6m? Sounds a lot to me. I'll trust Adkins, he has done pretty well so far with transfers.

Not sure there is a professional club in the land where the manager sets players transfer values. If the price is right for the board, they will sell, regardless of what Lennon thinks he is worth.

Agreed I think we are probably getting close to the ammount the celtic board will take.

its not entirely up to lennon

Celtic, and especially Lennon, have played this transfer interest completely wrong.

Everything points to us having serious interest and Celtic playing their hand and letting us negotiate. That's how I see it.

Then you have Lennon disconnected from it all making stupid desperate comments because he knows we're serious.

with only one champions league place available, I would have thought the Celtic board would be very reluctant to let this guy go half way through the season. With Rangers about to go bankrupt they just need to hold their nerve a little longer and then the Scottish title will be theirs to lose every season. They wouldn't want Rangers pipping them this year and somehow getting off the hook financially. I'd be amazed if he was allowed to go unless it was £6-7m. But is he worth that?

getting bit heated here..

lone saints fan trying to convince half of Celtic they are supporting the wrong team!

Way I see it, there is a decent chance we could sign him. In these days of agents and financial guys running clubs I can't see Saints wasting time if there was zero chance. Equally why would Lennon keep going public if it was a total non-starter?

Confident we have entered into very serious discussions and have been shown some encouragement by Celtic.

Whether we will sign him, who knows.

Getting to be a high figure when we have Lambert, Guly, Connolly and Lee as four forwards - with Barnard and youngsters behind that.
