Saw Lennon in M&S with Georgios Samaras 4 days ago.....Ooooooooh So how did he do that dailyrecord interview the same day???

Fake!! - deal back on!

If he does sign, I dare you to get "Hooper" on the back of a Saints shirt and wear it around Glasgow.

I think you would get an interesting mix of reactions from Rangers/Celtic fans.

Thing is they were looking for a striker before our supposed interest in Hooper, so would be careful about drawing any conclusions.

And back to Hooper, just can't see it ever happening. Well not before he sees out the title challenge in jockland and we get promoted.

Daily Fail reporting we've had a £6 mill bid turned down... Surely we won't go higher???

The headline states the second bid was 6m, but the story can only go as far as saying "reports have suggested the south-coast club could be willing to go to £6million in their bid for a reunion." Seems like the journo based the amount we bid second time round on hearsay.

Don't think any of these journalists have a clue beyond what Neil Lennon is saying at press conferences tbh.

Also Rhodes would be daft to go to Celtic, if not in January, then certainly in the summer he'll have his pick of a number of PL clubs given his goalscoring record and age.

Ive heard we have offered 6mill with add ons and Hooper wants to join up with NA and will hand in a transfer req on Mon.

Is this the "blow them outta the water" deal The Don was saying. God I hope so !!!

'Matthew Le Tissier' on here seems to reckon we're 80% of the way to signing a striker who none of us have mentioned. He was also the one that brought the first news of Tadanari Lee I believe...

Hmm. According to that, Celtic want 6M so they can splash out on Rhodes. Is Hooper better than Rhodes?

Hooper is proven at a higher level than Rhodes. Scored 3 goals in Europe last season and was 3rd top scorer in the Championship, whilst playing for a relegation threatened side in 2009/10.

Scored more goals that season than £35m man Andy Carroll who was playing for the team that won the league...

Proven, but not necessarily the better option. Rhodes has consistently been scoring in L1 over the past 3 season and is still only 21. Just for a comparison, he has already beaten Lamberts scoring total from last season by 11 goals and its only January.

I'm not saying he is currently the better player, but I have no doubt that he is potentially a better buy and will score goals in this league. Would be happy with either player, but if we could get Rhodes for the same price or even less then I would take him over Hooper.

HAHAHA!! We have NO chance of getting Jordan Rhodes (or Hooper for that matter)!! Chamberlain cost nearly 15 million last season, and Rhodes has been put in the same bracket of talent as him (United, Liverpool etc, been scouting him). Why on earth would he come here, and how would he be less than 6 million??

I think i'm off this forum for the rest of the month. Nearly 600 posts on a player who is never gunna play for us - says it all.

Behave yourself, just stating my opinion on who would be the better option as it has been discussed on here.

I didn't say he would be less than £6m, just that if he was available for the same price as Hooper or less, he would be the better option. But to put this into perspective for you. West Ham made a £3m move for Rhodes a few of days ago, so it would appear his valuation is nowhere near that of Chamberlains £15m. For the record I think it is unlikely we will sign either player, but if Sam Allardyce thinks he could acquire Rhodes then I see no reason why we shouldn't try. As for why would he come here, well this is a natural stepping stone to the Premier League and we're on the right track to getting there.

CELTIC have knocked back a second offer from Southampton for striker Gary Hooper.

Neil Lennon confirmed the bid - believed to be about £4million - last night and repeated his wish to keep the Englishman in his title-chasing side.

Celtic paid £2m to get Hooper from S****horpe and it's understood the Championship leaders could be willing to pay almost double that to take him back south.

But that doesn't impress Lennon who said: "Southampton's valuation of the player and our valuation are some way off each other.

"I've no idea if they'll come back in for Gary a third time, but they'll get the same answer if they do. He's not for sale."

Lennon saying he isnt for sale but then also says the valuations are far apart which suggests they have named a price they find acceptable.

Surely we wouldnt bid if we thought Hooper had no desire whatsoever to move here so I think this will go long into the window and if we offer enough - crazy money - then it could happen.

As Adkins has hinted, given our positon it is worth spending to try and get back to the Prem, I think 6-7m for Hooper would be worth it, he is a proven goalscorer.

Lennon's doing the same that all managers do in these circumstances - covering his ar$e with the fans.

We'll get him.

BTW, comparing the Chamberlain deal with others is a bit daft - he's a one-off, thankfully so is our chairman, because as time moves on that looks like one HELL of a deal for us. :adore::adore:

Not going so well for Alex in the big smoke is it? Grass...greener and all that bollix.

As a Rapid fan I know that Hamdi would be a disaster for Saints far too slow and can't even get in the Rapid first 11. He wants to go to Saints, but Saints aren't interested. Arte Nuhui also wants to go to Saints. I'm quite connected at Rapid but Saints don't seem interested with any Rapid players or at least they never got back to me.

Aren't Celtic meant to be looking at Hamdi?

We chased one or two in the Summer who didn't want to come here.

Have either of these characters been linked then ?

The thing about Lennon he is bound to say hes not for sale. However what is important in this consideration is the Fact that both Rangers and Celic have no money

and are basically broke .At the end of the day it will be the Celtic board who will make the decision and not Mr Lennon , He can huff and puff all he wants.

Scottish football is ****e by the way.
