Bearsy Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Anyone know how the Daily Record would get advance notice of a bid we haven't put in yet?
Saint Garrett Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 That report is just a copied report from the Mirror. "CHAMPIONSHIP leaders Southampton are set to test Celtic's resolve by upping their bid for Gary Hooper to £6m. Saints boss Nigel Adkins signed the striker when he was boss of S****horpe and reckons the frontman could fire his new side to the Premier League. (Daily Mirror)"
Junior Mullet Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 When did we ever spend anywhere near £6m on a player. Laughable. With the recent experiences and difficulties courting British talent it is no wonder the club are searching abroad.
JoeShmoe Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Celtic fans i know seem to think he wants to come and has told Lennon but Celtic holding out for big money, Perhaps 6m is the figure
SuperMikey Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 When did we ever spend anywhere near £6m on a player. Laughable. With the recent experiences and difficulties courting British talent it is no wonder the club are searching abroad. Rory Delap...
Window Cleaner Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Anyone know how the Daily Record would get advance notice of a bid we haven't put in yet? Same as a lot of the rumour generators on this very forum, they make it up to fill out time. See how it works, Saints like Gary Hooper cos he's played for NA before and a player like that is much too good to be in Scotland when we have AOC money which must be in the order of at least a billion sitting in the bank doing nothing oh my god we haven't scored a goal in a month of Sundays help mummy we need a new striker cos the one we've just signed has never played for NA beforehand and is bound to be rubbish.
Crazy Diamond Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 The phrase 'don't shoot the messenger' comes to mind.
buctootim Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 The £4m we spent on Rory Delap in 2001 is around £5.4m at todays prices
hypochondriac Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Im not saying we wont sign anybody - but if we do it will because the Liebherrs have gifted some cash and not asked for it back. And I was just saying that when we made those seven million pound losses, I very much doubt we made them n the knowledge that we would be covering them through the sale of a 15 million pound youngster.
derry Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Anyone know how the Daily Record would get advance notice of a bid we haven't put in yet? A friend who knows two ex Saints managers well told me on Wednesday morning that he had been told the clubs had been talking late on Tuesday, today he had heard that we were still not in agreement, he wouldn't say who told him but I know that these are his only sources. Lennon doesn't look happy and is moaning about the window and says that he doesn't want to lose any of his players but would like to add to his squad.

I could be wrong but I imagine £6 million could buy him a lot of Scottish prospects, and there are a few out there. It does sound like it would be an offer that would be too good to turn down, question is, will we offer it?
sotonjoe Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I think he could be the player to partner Ricky. More so than Sharp for sure. £6m would be the most I'd like us to pay, but he could still prove good value at that price. He was only born in 1988 FFS!

I wouldn't mind betting the haggleing is around £4m and how much now etc, just a guess.
Born In The 80s Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I don't think we've got a chance of getting him in this window. Celtic won't want to sell their best player, and we won't pay 6 million. Not much going for it.

Not much going for it. Spot on , I would be suprised if we signed anyone else other than Lee , not sure that we have the money too, would loved to be proved wrong though.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 13 January, 2012 Author Posted 13 January, 2012 Shaping up to be a really interesting transfer window as far as new strikers goes. It's going to be interesting to see, when the window finally slams shut, which striker ultimately ends up with the longest thread. Lee leading the way at the moment, I guess, but Hooper showing some good potential here. All to play for, IMO.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 £4.8M + Puncheon. Just a guess, but would be good business.
Wade Garrett Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I reckon Puncheon will go the other way. We might get Commons as well. Happy days.
Wade Garrett Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 £4.8M + Puncheon. Just a guess, but would be good business. Bizarre, we posted at the same time.
derry Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Only thirteen deals in the Premier league so far in thirteen days, very slow.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Bizarre, we posted at the same time. Great minds and all that!
Window Cleaner Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 £4.8M + Puncheon. Just a guess, but would be good business. Why would Celtic want Puncheon....can't see that at all. If they were to sell us Hooper..which they probably won't then they'd need a main line striker and not an advanced midfielder.Puncheon+ £s for Commons is a sort of possibility though.
Webby Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I just have a feeling that there might be something in this Hooper saga. The rest of this transfer window is going to be very interesting indeed.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Why would Celtic want Puncheon? Well if you believe the Daily Mail... From May 2010, Celtic linked with Jason Puncheon... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1274132/Celtic-target-Southampton-duo-Jason-Puncheon-Rickie-Lambert.html
Window Cleaner Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 (edited) Well if you believe the Daily Mail... Agent crap as usual. Where was the Saints turned down 650K for Puncheon of late....yep Daily Mail, Finnegan leaks bullsh*t to the Mail it's evident, it's like buying ad space for him.NA says no definite bids for JP, so how come we turned down 650K from Blackpool...yep figment of agent's imagination. Edited 13 January, 2012 by Window Cleaner
Norm Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Well if you believe the Daily Mail... But that was 20 months ago. I was young then.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Why would Celtic want Puncheon. Well if you believe the Daily Mail... Agent crap as usual. Puncheon could easily do a great job in the SPL. Most non Old Firm clubs wouldn't look out of place at the bottom of the Championship/top of League One. Jason did okay for a struggling Premier League side, very well in a short spell at Millwall in the Championship and good in the first 5 months at Saints.
SNSUN Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Punch would be a great hit up north. He'd catch up with most of the footballs he's punted up there when playing for Saints. Only thirteen deals in the Premier league so far in thirteen days, very slow. January's like a game of poker, everyone's keeping their cards close to their chest. One big transfer could open up a merry-go-round of deals.
trousers Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 The Daily Mail* Fail* Heil* only prints nonsense (unless they publish a positive story about Saints) so anything they report is obviously a load of old baloney. Innit. *delete as suits your pre-conceived argument and/or as you believe to be highly amusing

Saints foreva Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 10 pages for someone we have no chance in signing?
hypochondriac Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 10 pages for someone we have no chance in signing? Why does it matter? Every window people post a lot about people who may or may not sign. Every single window you get a load of posters filling those threads laughing about the length.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Only chance we have is if hooper wants the move in a hurry! Cant see celtic selling in jan without the player pushing for a move.
pimpin4rizeal Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Havent seen hooper play is he really a better target then the likes of maynard or,sordell? What type of striker is he and whats his strengths
Viking Warrior Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Nothing on stv re hooper it's a non starter
Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Havent seen hooper play is he really a better target then the likes of maynard or,sordell? buctootim Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 There is a poll in the Daily Record - 'Who is the best striker in the SPL'. Of the 10 candidates Hooper gets almost 50% of the vote http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/
shurlock Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 A goal poacher like Gary Lineker I think describes him best, lots of goals from inside the six yard box... [video=youtube;jHovSSW-Dwg] Does him a disservice to call him a goal poacher - watched quite a bit of him at Celtic. Reminds me of a beefed up, more direct Connolly.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Does him a disservice to call him a goal poacher. Nothing wrong with being a goal poacher, it is a skill in its own right to get in the right place at the right time and finish it off. Did Lineker no harm.

[video=youtube;jHovSSW-Dwg] thanks for the info mlg Ideally id like a pacy striker of the hernandez type to give us something differant But you guys all seem to love the idea of hooper so hed be a welcome edition
Saint Charlie Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Celtic fans starting to worry a bit on this now. Good to see although still seems an unlikely deal.

Window Cleaner Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 Not surprising though is it if 50% of fans support Celtic and the other half Rangers. I'm sure that Saints fans voted Beattie as the best player on the planet on occasions.

pimpin4rizeal Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I think we should rate him more on his time in the championship More than his time at celtic. doing well in scotland doesnt very often mean ull do good in england
Saint Charlie Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 He did very well in the Champ and has also got goals in Europe.
Saint_lambden Posted 13 January, 2012 Posted 13 January, 2012 I think we should rate him more on his time in the championship More than his time at celtic. doing well in scotland doesnt very often mean ull do good in england He scored 50 goals in 95 games for Sc_unthorpe.
