I'm not sure this deal will happen given Celtic's apparent valuation of him but seeing how wound up the Celtic fans are getting this rumor is worth keeping contributing to.

Some humble haggis to be gulped down if this transfer goes through, imo.

If they're considering not playing him because 'the speculation is unsettling him' then that to me says we are very serious about it and I don't think he would turn down the opportunity to come to us...time will tell I guess.

Strange that we're being a bit more open about our transfer targets this window. Any dealings are normally done in total secrecy.

The only reason this one is in the public domain is because Lennon opened his gob !

Does he always look so chunky or is that an unflattering picture? Looks like he needs the Adkins diet asap!
A barrel of muscle with a David Hirst @rse :)

Same here, I travel a round trip of 240 miles to every home game. It's not unusual to have season ticket holders living a fair distance from the club.

Indeed. I'm a STH and do a 310 mile round trip for home games and i know a couple more down here that do the same.

I think it's pretty hard to keep things quiet though if you're at the top of the Championship looking to spend relatively big, especially if you're going after Celtics main player and top goalscorer.

I remember a while back when we were in the Premiership that a survey was conducted amongst ST holders from all Prem teams about the distance they travelled for games and our average came out as one of the highest.

i think it was a percentage of season ticket holders who lived outside of the cities boundaries / post code area something like that , i think i know more saints fans who live outside of southampton than in, most of which who i have met through doing away games.

Plenty of chatter from Adkins about it as well.

Well thank god we are not West Ham then - So many press leaks there that I've lost track of the number of players they are buying this window

Yep - same survey that found Man United to have one of the biggest "local" supports in the Prem too. Obviously that doesn't stop morons coming out with the same "not a long trip for United fans to us today, Surrey's only up the road lol"

Well, according to some reports, Hooper apparently is going to hand in a transfer request today.

Time to measure some of the potential bs against some of the reality!

Presume Hooper is English?

likely to be wanting to get his exit visa sorted before he is nationalised post devolution!!

It's a well known fact that Andover is a Southampton town. Full of well dressed, game lads.

Why thank you.

Yes the Mancs do have a very large percentage of local fans, but with gates of 75,000 half of that would be considered a very large local fanbase.

Man Utd have more season ticket holders based in Manchester than Citeh but in all fairness, they do have about 20,000 more ST holders.

Because Rangers do, and Celtic are their blood brothers. Or something.

The article with Hooper gives me the impression he won't be going anywhere. Surprised if he leaves now, he could have just said nothing. I reckon they have been in talks but he's not going to come so has stated he will be staying...just a thought though.

Hooper just released a statement on SSN......he's staying at Celtic

While this is not the death-knell for this transfer, pretty close.

Cue the sounds of a million battered Mars bars hitting deep fat fryers in celebration.

Celtic’s Gary Hooper has responded to speculation about his future by insisting he is happy in Glasgow.

Several clubs are thought to be tracking the striker and Southampton have made enquiries about a possible transfer.

Hooper says that transfer talk does not concern him and he does not want to move.

“I’m very happy,” he told Celtic’s official website.

“I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team.

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now. I’m just focusing on football - training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.”
