Tamesaint Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 Today's ref was excellent. A Mr Webster from ????? After the appalling Darren Deadman and Andy d'Urso my faith in British referees has been restored. He let the game flow, exerted controrl over the game with an early (deserved) booking of Cramie and often gestured to explain his decisions. He clearly has a problem with his ego - he didn't seem to have one and realised that the crowd had come to watch a game of football and not him!! I wish we could have him every week.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 On the topic of good refs Scott Mathieson has been very good, the couple of times we have had him
Bourno Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 I didn't think he was that good. Coventry got away with far too many holding and pulling of our players. Clear foul in our penalty box that led to their goal.
bender Posted 8 January, 2012 Posted 8 January, 2012 To be fair it wasnt a dirty game and probably an easy game to ref. It wouldnt have been the end of the world for either teams to lose and almost had the feel of a reserve game.
knellster Posted 11 January, 2012 Posted 11 January, 2012 I wouldn't disagree with the OP but it just goes to show how important luck is. Very early on Coventry had a one on one from which Bart made a very good save. However, the Coventry player was a couple of yards offside (we were sitting with some Cov fans who agreed) and if they had scored from that maybe our opinion of the ref would have been different. Similarly, D'Urso played a fantastic advantage at Brighton after a foul on Harding which led to a chance that Guly put over the bar from 5 yards. If he had scored that I doubt we would have cared a jot about Dan's yellow card and the red Lambert got may well not have happened.
