depends, it might just be that Leicester, like us, wouldn't meet to his demands.

If Leicester turn them down as well you'd have to surmise that they're pretty stringent.Still think it's about either a guaranteed start when fit or top paid player parity.L'Equipe said more and more transfers are falling apart over that these days, player wants the same conditions as the highest paid, highest paid wants more than anyone else, Catch 22 applied to football.

yep that would be my guess too.

I know Leicester has made an offer to Donnie, but he hasn't signed yet - has he ?

Could he still be next week's " mystery signing ? " (Nigel Adkins comment)

Dean Saunders interview after the game yesterday would suggest otherwise. I think he said something along the lines of `the fat lad from Sheffield hadn't agreed to go to either of the two clubs that had come in for him so he expected him to stay. Also Sharp had indicted that he would stay till the end of the season.'

Interesting. Thought it was a £3m release fee?

Not sure he'll move though. If he turned down Leicester then we haven't got a chance. (and he's already turned us down once..)

At the beginning of the transfer window Sharp said words to the effect that he was going to wait and see what offers came in. I guess he had hopes of a transfer to the PL. Around the same time Adkins alluded to the fact that we might have to wait until towards the endof the window when most transfer business is done. I think Sharp was the first or one of the first forwards Saints were linked with so Iguess he's been high on Adkins' list. Could all be conjecture but could Adkins have been waiting for Sharp to make up his mind on whichever clubs came in for him? It seemed to be a similar scenario with Cork's transfer. Seemed to me he too was seeing what offers there were before deciding.

So - if he really was in the stands tonight - will he have concluded Saints are hopeless and it put him off signing ... OR will he think "eeh by gum, they are 'opeless up front; I'll reet get in that team and play every game"??? And so decide he WILL join us?

Press your keypad now. Vote A for 'not sign' or B for 'will sign." :)

reluctantnicko Alan Nixon

@ @dankiz1 Back in. Good chance. Fee fixed. Down to player terms. Should be ok.

Saints not leicester that is, interesting!

Who is posting that though? Could be anyone. Interesting that some posters suggested rumours he was in the stands last night just hours before the Mirror ran the story. I hope to god the rumours are true as boy do we need him after last night.

I'm not saying Sharp is the best of the players we've been linked with but I just have a feeling he could be the best one for us. He can play off Lambert but he can also play as the main striker too. Quick off the mark rather than blindingly quick and would be alive to some of the balls dropping the box that perhaps some of our current attacking options aren't. Hooper was sort of similar in that respect, from what I'd seen.

IF and a big IF, he was watching (often get players spotted yet no-one seems to have camera phone in such scenarios - odd!), he was probably watching Leicester. Can't see Sharp being too enamoured by that Saints performance!! We've clearly over-achieved up until now and Adkins has gone full circle on the b*ll*ocks he spouted to the press previously and I question what transfer funds we have available. Double cr*p really since we have the Oxo money to spend but have nowhere near replaced the quality we have lost. Strikes an umcomfortable taste in my mouth but we will wait and see. However, I certainly don't think we intend to splash the funds as readily as the club make out. I'd love to be wrong. This transfer window is decidingly feeling like Groundhog Day - just like the last. Bid for players we have a realistic chance of signing.

I think we may benefit by consolidating this season but if the riches of the PL are there, why settle for 2nd best? Push on and at least have a go. Surely we shook off that dreaded lack of ambition and short sighted penny pinching with the past disasterous chairmen?! Time still this week but I have an uneasy feeling.

Excellent post. And that doesn't mean spending vast sums on players we cannot afford, simply taking a small risk for a potentially huge reward.

Or perhaps Lowe had the right idea. Considering both him and Cortese come from banking, they know that the risk/reward isn't actually worth it?

In fairness don't you feel that the loss of Lambert, Chaplow, Lallana and Fonte could be argued to be a big loss from the squad for last night and a major cause for our poor performance? Yes you can argue that it was time for other squad members to step up to the plate and I think Hooiveld probably did (shame he's now injured!) but we've got what in the old days used to be called an injury crisis and the four above mentioned are all key members and arguably the backbone of the team. How many vertebra do we need to lose before you consider that it will start to impact on our performances?!

This.

But we actually started to lose form the moment Chaplow got injured. He's our engine.

What are we doing, timesharing him with Leicester ? I thought that was a done deal.

I think any number of clubs might have agreed the fee with that sell clause in his contract, but all this nonsense with " agreeing personal terms" can mean

the player delays... because doesn't want to go.. (and who can blame him - Leicester !)

He definitely dropped down a place on Adkins wish-list when we moved for Hooper, but as that seems to have failed, he may be target no.1 again, and is delaying until the 30th January before making a decision....

A 'football reporter' on Twitter' date=' called Darryl Pennant, tweeted that we've activated the release clause in Sharp's contract & we're in talks with him although personal terms are again the issue. Summer deja vu?[/quote']

FFSm we must know his demands by now. Either pay what he wants or don't and move on.

Doncaster have just confirmed that they've received no bids.

Disappointing that he seemingly isn't coming then. If we sign no one else then I'll be a bit disappointed after Adkins' statement about going all out for promotion. Not the end of the world though but potentially a missed opportunity.

As someone mentioned its like the summer again, 'Groundhog Day'.

As I predicted 17th, anything above makes me feel positive ! I do think consolidation was the aim and i am sure that is what we will achieve !
