Dickson to Yeovil

Saint Garrett

Maybe very occasionally this is true, but if we have expressed an interest in a player, and the player is interested, any competent CEO of the source club would have done that work too.

Sorry, I am not buying this cr*p about it takes so long it must take most of January.

Have we had most of January already? My apologies.

What experience have you got that allows you to pass judgement on a CEO's competency?

If we enquired early enough, well before the window opens, we then have the option to move on to other targets or push harder.

what if they were reluctant to sell...imagine if spurs came in for lallana and offered £6m....do you think we should say "ok, how quick can you take him"..?

That must take until the last week of January due to some unwritten law. Yeah, right

You still havent explained why this negotiation must continue until then.

It might not continue until then, they might come to an agreement tomorrow for all we know. At the end of the day we don't know.

All we can be sure of, and what is a fact, is that we are actively pursing numerous players.

I think this one will come back to haunt us, a much better left back than Harding, who Nige seems to thinks can do no wrong and younger as well IMO.

Agreed. Dickson's a decent player I'd have ahead of Harding any day of the week. This is one decision I think Nigel has got wrong.

You can carry on, all of you, trying to justify the ball-achingly slow process of Saints strengthening in every transfer window, if you want, whilst the teams around us have no such trouble.

I reckon you are all going to be mightily disappointed with the results of this window; no doubt some of you will then try to claim we didnt need that much strengthening anyway...

No he doesnt. I dont care if anything is being done or not, I care about RESULTS.

So far, they arent getting any. They are in a results business.

Making loads of enquires and offers mean nothing if they dont secure the players.

How far do you take this philosophy? For example, would you care what was happening and who was playing on the pitch, as long as we got the results?

I'm a firm believer in the ends justifying the means, and as such I will wait and see what has happened at the end of january.

Fine; you are willing to kiss goodbye to promotion then, since another 4 games will have passed by then.

blackpool...oh the player that was part of the charlie adam deal...

and then leeds..

right, I am now angry that we are being left behind

Whatever, you carry on being sneering and pedantic and lets see how the next month works out. Dont come crying to me if we've blown automatic promotion by then.

don't worry, I won't come crying to you (or anyone). to be fair, I have more important things to worry about in my life than crying about saints signing another millionaire...

if we go up...amazing..if we don't, the team would have clearly given it a great shot

No big loss IMO would have thought we would try to ship him out permently. What ever any one thinks about Harding, and clearly if this place is anything to go by most don't seem to like him, he is the only LB who has clicked with and brings out the best in Lallana. Dickson's passing has always been suspect and he was always to light weight in the challenge for me very easily knocked off the ball. There's a reason he failed to dislodge Harding from LB last season......

oh no, are our play off hopes hanging by a thread again?

There has been **** all movement so far. West Ham have identified 25 players to help them get promoted, but I don't see their name in the list below? Why not? Because they are after decent players that can improve them, just like us, and they're not easy to snare even if you have a few bob in your pocket. Now stop worrying and enjoy the bloody ride.

You talk about results as if we are bottom of the league! As for "declining fortunes" are we on the slide have we been relegated? We got promoted and we are top. Yet you mention a decline. You really are a moron.

I simply cannot believe that a Saints fan does not view the last month as a decline, considering our form up to and including November, and considering our squad that is likely to line up against Forest.

And cut out the f**king abuse

Only a bellend like Alpine could ruin a thread about Diction going on loan.

Pathetic. What is there to say about this without a bit of relevant divergence ?

Person 1: "He's cr*p, we wont miss him"

Person 2: "He's good, could have done a job for us if he had more chances"

End of thread.

Exactly. Norwich City seem to have perfected this as an art and it has brought them success. We are similar sized club, there are no excuses for our lack of planning and decisiveness.

Then have a bit more respect for the opinion of those of us who do care, cos you clearly arent that fussed.

we've agreed a fee for Lee, put a bid in for Robbin Ruiter and Kris Commons. Plans were made, decisive action was taken.

Again you show little understanding of football sometimes teams do not play well and lose games like Arsenal did at the beginning of the season Man U now and Southampton early last season.

So please wind your neck in and see what happens at St Mary's apparently we have a five year plan to get to the PL we are only in year three and may have no more money this year to enhance the team which has performed better than any of us could have expected.

It is not our club it belongs to Cortese and his chums and they do what they want to but being top of the League for such a long time is a fine achievement and promotion is still a reasonable probability

it does not belong to Cortese and his chums. He is the CEO and works for the owners, the Liebherr family. Sorry it annoys me when people say it is his club. Not a dig at Cortese I might add. I have no complaints about his transfer policy at all.

It always Surprises me with almost ALL football clubs why most of the deals are done in the last couple of days of the transfer window, surely they should be lining up potential targets in december, or do they all just forget it happens?
it's like a house buying chain, someone needs to complete before the chain gets moving and time pressure is what forces that all important deal the kick starts the chain.

Sorry as I could not remember how to spell Liebherr I put Cortese and his chums instead but agree with your point.

By the way not sure his transfer policy is much different from Lowe's but is much different from that was expected for a club owned by Billionaires

Hard to know what to expect as never really sure how much hard cash Markus had burning a hole in his pocket, but we've spent a lot of money on transfer fees, agents fees, signing in fees and of course wages. Kind of glad we haven't done a Chelsea/Man City/Leicester if I'm honest. Actually I'm still concerned about our finances. Everyone keeps telling me the debt is not a problem, but until it is no longer on the balance sheet I'll always have a nagging feeling things may go pear shaped.

I think you are closer to the truth than you may think. I have said since the summer that our relatively modest investment was proof that we had a sustainable 5 year plan as opposed the **** or bust model of WHAM. Trouble on this forum is that people don't look at the evidence.

It's a strange one this. Dickson figured at the end of last season and did well; he scored a goal at Plymouth if I remember correctly. And yet he hasn't had a look in this season, unless you count appearances in a 'second string' cup side.

Pardew brought Dickson in when we already had Harding so Pardew obviously thought Dickson was good enough to challenge Harding. Nige has gone on and brought Fox in though and seems to favour a Fox / Harding merry go round. What I find frustrating is that I think neither Fox nor Harding have been completely convincing in the left back role and yet, despite this, Dickson still hasn't been given his chance.

It looks to me as though Nige has decided Dickson isn't up to it and he needs to be playing first team football so this could be a good move for him. With him showing class in League 1 I expect he could get a position in a team higher up that league but he may have perhaps wanted to stay in commutable distance. His fiancee needs to commute to the London area anyway so he couldn't have gone too far away.

just noticed that Dicksons debut game for Yeovil wasn't so memorable.

They got dumped 4-0 at Bramall Lane by Sheff.Utd (for whom one J.Beattie came on as a late sub but didn't score).

yes not exactly impressing the glovers fans (taken from their forum)

For me, Gav Williams is past it. Not even a shadow of his former self. Dickson looked no better than what we've got, and Ehmer was so poor, and dare I say it a little chubby?? They were the 3 worst for me last night.

The only loan players i think he will have thought to be worth keeping are Massey and Obika

Dickson had a rather desperate debut, particularly in the first half, though perhaps my comment at the time that it was the worst YTFC debut since Marcus Jones was somewhat unfair.

Dickson looked out of his depth to me. Seemed to drift in and out of position, seems pretty low and one footed. No better than what we've already got IMO, AND he cant do a stepover but we'll see how he fares against more realistic opposition.

Like us, Southampton do not have a reserve side so yesterday was one of only three games Dickson has played all season. Hopefully he was just a bit rusty and will improve in a game or two and a couple more training sessions with the rest of the team.

In fairness Ryan is probably very match rusty but this might go someway to explaining why Nigel doesn't rate him when he looks bad in a poor league 1 team.

So they've noticed that already then, strange that most of our fans didn't notice it from a nigh on full season with us.His positioning is awful and he appears to be only half awake most of the time. Once they'd got the old GPS vest on him his total lack of positional sense would have been a total giveaway.

I watched Dickson at today's match.

He admitted his game v Sheff United was not his best in an interview. But today against Tranmere, he was superb. Started at LM, covered his LB well, got forward as was always a threat. Later in the second half he moved to left-back, he was also very good there. He was happy to take players on, show some skill and looked to give 100%.

At the death, 5 mins into stoppage time, he kept going forward, and played in a cross where the winning goal was scored.

Very effective today and a very very good player at that level. Will see where he goes from there.

I am finding it hard to "buy into" this alpine is as stupid as he pretends to be. I don't for a second think your stupid or that you can't understand why the bulk of the completed transfers in the window come in the latter stages .. every window. Other clubs do complete deals yes .. but the BULK are completed in the last week!
