...was is it for playing staff' date=' coaching staff or just general club staff?[/quote']

From the quote and age (30) it would seem to be on the playing side... "when Karl Robinson took charge at stadiummk he introduced a recruitment department at the Dons and assigned Mitch to his backroom staff."

Still got no idea what he actually does though. Anything from scouring the world for multi million pouind signings to looking after first year academy arrivals. Wouldnt have thought he has the experiemce at 30 to be a good enough judge of talent.

It's a good question. Ultimate Head of Recruitment has to be Nicola himself. Player recruitment has to be between NA, Les Reid and the team of scouts. So what is left? Is he just an HR bod, or does he look at academy targets from outside the usual channels and catchment?

The scouting department as it stands at the moment...

Senior Recruitment Officer Bill Green

Scouting Administrator Emily Webb

Performance Analyst Tom Stockwell

Youth Recruitment Officer Rod Ruddick

Academy Recruitment Scout Chris Welman

Analyst Stephen Corns

Analyst Andrew Stone

This doesn't include the numerous other scouts that the club also employ and come under the wing of Ruddick (senior scouting) and Welman (academy scouting). They must be looking for someone new to lead the European scouting as well.

Paul Mitchell is a former professional footballer, it is unlikely he is going to be recruiting office and catering staff at Saints.

It makes me wonder about Pardew actually. He made fairly obvious signings. We needed goal scorers, so he went and got Lambert and Barnard, well known names. He needed a tough midfielder, he got Dean Hammond, again a name anyone who's been around the Football League long enough will know about.

Since he's gone, we've seen less obvious signings from further afield, De Ridder and Hooiveld for example. I wonder if Pardew was starting to get undermined by scouts and people above him making the calls. Guly's debut was Pardew's last game in charge...

I can't imagine Nigel has had much of a say in who we've bought, perhaps other than Johnno Quick.

So what does Head of recruitment actually do?

Have a guess.

So just to confirm, you haven't got a f u cking clu e what Mitchell's specific role or remit might be, either here or at MK. Cut the snide comments you pedantic arseflap.

Is that the same Andrew Stone from Pineapple Dance Studios who's currently on Celebrity Big Brother?

Like you, I'm bemused by this appointment in view of his age. I doubt there will have been much recruitment on the continent whilst at MK, so can we assume this chap will be 'recuiting' at a relatively junior and local - or UK at most - level ?

Personally I was hoping for a Georges Prost type figure for European scouting/recruitment.

Daniel Karbassiyoon handles Arsenal's scouting in North America, he's 27, career ended prematurely.

Mmm, I suppose Villas-Boas was also Chelsea's Championship Manager geek at a pretty early age as well. Crikey, football has changed, in the good old days it was dodgy geezers in their 60's with Cockney accents who did this sort of thing.

There's a story about 'AVB' that I absolutely love - when he was a kid he lived in the same block of apartments as Bobby Robson when he was managing in Portugal, and he used to give him stick about his tactics. Bobby turned round one day and gave him a job! Look where he is now.

AVB was a pretty damn good scout by all accounts, check out this scout report he did for Mourinho, it's in PDF format: http://www.bragafut.com/artigos/art18.pdf
