Director of European Recruitment - UPDATE

As some may remember I posted a thread in May 2011 about Jacob Friis-Hansen being appointed Director of European Recruitment at SFC. Since then there have been no official news of the appointment and some confusion reigned over whether he had actually been appointed or not.

The news originally came from Danish footy side bold.dk (http://www.bold.dk/nyt/Friis-Hansen-skal-hjaelpe-Saints-i-PrL) and two days ago I wrote the journalist and asked for an update. He replied that by coincidence he was planning to call Friis-Hansen in the near future and promised an update. And today it came:

http://www.bold.dk/nyt/Friis-Hansen-stoppet-i-Southampton

Friis-Hansen is no longer at Southampton

Having been apployed for 5 months, former national team player Jakob Friis-Hansen is no longer Director of European Recruitment at the Championship club Southampton.

South coast Championship club Southampton hired Jakob Friis-Hansen as Director of European Recruitment in May. He only held the position for five months, before both parties agreed to end to cooperation.

- I am not at Southampton anymore. I helped them get a good start but we couldn't agree on working procedures, so we decided to split up, Friis-Hansen tells bold.dk

Friis-Hansen who previously scouted for Liverpool, now works as a pundit on tv, but he has another job lined up.

- I'm close to landing another job but I have to keep my cards to myself for now, Friis-Hansen adds.

Southampton were relegated from the Premier League in 2005 after 27 years in the finest league and after two relegations they ended up in League One. Now they are coming back stronger. As a newly promoted team Saints are topping the Championship table after more than half of the season has been played.

Got to wonder why he was only here for 5 months though.

As I translated the piece I was quite struggling with the notion of "working routines" as I see it as the central term of the whole article. And maybe a starting point for a little NC-bashing? ;-D (not trying to misinterpret your post though!)

So we know know he actually joined Saints. Looking back to the original article his comments remain interesting...

"The club is owned by the Liebherr family. They are incredibly rich and are aware that it will cost money. On short terms the goal is Premier League, but on the longer term they also want to play in the Champions League and be part of the top clubs in England. With their fortune backing them up they are about the fifth richest club in England, so it is realistic and there is a willingness to expand the academy, the facilities and the stadium if necessary."

Hasn't Bill Green been with us before, wasn't his dismissal one of leftback's hobby horses?

Yeah I remarked to my Dad that I recognised the name and was sure he'd been with us before and that i'd possibly noticed him as a scout for saints on one of the older FM games!

I noticed in the programme for the Bristol game that Bill Green has joined us as a scout, could he have taken over from the Danish guy perhaps?

Interesting, I'll have to add him again. Anyone with a Bristol City programme tell me exactly what it said?

" working routines "..? .. may mean there's no-one around to check on, when he's out on the job, and when at home watching TV...

I could say I was scouting in Sweden for Saints, but I could do that by reading gossip, watching games on TV and going to the occasional match..

but that hardly qualifies me to be Director of Anything ...

Working routines may also mean that he is forced to travel on scouting trips by means of hippopotamus.

I.E, we have no idea what he is referring it.

Plus the whole "working routines" is my not-too-accurate translation of a Danish expression.

It was also mentioned in the national press that the guy that joined from man city (sorry can't recall his name was it Burke?) is leaving to join Brighton. Don't know if it is true or not

True, that's already happened. He's gone. (David Burke iirc)

So this bloke said he worked for us, we never said anything now he says he no longer works for us? Could just be a self publicist perhaps and it was all ******?

I think that is unlikely as it could easily be shown to be false by the club, would end up doing him more harm than good. No club announces on their website every staff appointment.

Or perhaps Adkins got tired of flying around Europe looking at duffers...

Nah...let's find a conspiracy theory instead...

I can't believe you don't buy a programme. I'm actually shocked, I imagined you sat in a room surrounded by cabinets full of them in chronological order. Walls covered in Saints posters and scarfs, Saints duvet, pillowcase, rug and slippers.

And a picture of Turkish on the bedside cabinet.

I heard recently that Friis-Hansen was very complimentary of the set up and ambition of the club but couldn't cope with the rigour and demands of the management (NC?) and is now back in Denmark. He had good contacts in Scandinavia, France and Belgium and therefore may have recommended SDR but I'm not sure on this.

Well, we've just added Paul Mitchell from the Franchise, not Eastenders.

http://www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/sport/football/saint_mitch_leaves_stadium_mk_for_st_mary_s_1_3396202

"Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell has left Milton Keynes Dons to take up a position with Championship side Southampton with immediate effect.

The 30-year-old leaves stadiummk after over seven years of service in various capacities."

Hey, MLG. Don't forget you've got him in FM12 going around making comments like 'We should change Rickie Lamberts status from 'Key Player' to 'Team Rotation'.' I'm going to get rid of him tonight.
