Play the strongest team.

Now in my opinion if ever a cup game should be treated as serious this is it. If I was adkins I'd play my strongest team, win the game, get confidence back and dispel the theory that we can't play without lambert. We have no game for 7 days, lallana and others have been under par so let's get a good win and confidence flowing. Forget the nearly men like forte, Holmes, and pack the bench with kids.

Totally agree.

Though I think we should go with Bart in goal and hope that gives him a bit of confidence back, whilst giving Davis a bit of a wake-up call after his performances in the last 2 games.

Agree with this also.

I'd like to give Reeves, Ward-Prowse & maybe Shaw a run out..even if it is only off the bench. Otherwise...when are they going to ever get a chance?

When they are good enough. We need to get back to winning ways and what better way than beating cov and then on to forest full of confidence.

we really need to see if Bart is a viable alternative to Davis or if we need something better sharpish, for this reason I expect Bart to play on Saturday because Davis is costing us points now.At least 1 against Brizzle and at least 1 against Brighton, same as the 2 that Bart cost us against Blackpool. 2 not very great keepers= big trouble on the horizon.

Yes.

The League team is about to face for a few games a pretty serious upheaval. Therefore NA should practice what he intends to implement in the League.

The reverse problem is that if you play your strongest team to win but they lose badly, any good you are hoping comes from the match will be shot to pieces.

I would like to see a mix of youth and experience, can Butterfield and Dickson be that bad now to be completely out of the picture. I reckon we have suffered from a restricted bench of 5 where these type of squad players don't get a look in.

Sorry, but I thought davis had a good game against bristol on friday.... he stopped it from being a complete dicking...

trouble is we don't have much else.Really surprised how slow we are in the transfer market, we know we want players, why delay getting them?

Maybe because in real life its more complicated than clicking 'Sign Player' and he turns up the next day... we are obviously working on signing players, as shown by 1) the Lee announcement and 2) Adkins' very forthright statement of expecting transfers before the next league match. But these things take time.

Bart

Butterfield

Jaidi

Martin

Dickson

De Ridder

Hammond

Ward Prowse

Holmes

Guly

Connolly

That should be enough to go get a draw whilst deridder gets some match time to improve composure and Connors builds up match fitness.

Jaidi isn't fit and what do we get out of playing jaidi and Holmes??

What do you mean "what do you get out of playing jaidi and Holmes"??

You get an egg and a spoon!! Ffs...

Look, lallana aint firing and hasn't been the same after coming back from injury. A rest isn't going to hurt is it?

Holmes has looked ok in the few appearances he's had. Like the way he crosses the ball.

Jaidi if fit, will no doubt give jos a rest.

Just my thoughts. Think it's good to put out a b team on this occasion.

FFS it was double save and he nearly got to the third shot. Most of the papers were drooling over those saves.

It was only a double save & nearly a third because he spilled the first shot which was hit from at least 25 yards out & was pretty tame.

It's very simple - had Davis gathered the first shot, we would not have conceded from that piece of play. Am i right in thinking that Davis also spilled an earlier shot that gave Maynard their first goal that was disallowed?

I am worried about the form of our players between the sticks at this current time , Kelvin has been brilliant for a long long time - however it now looks as if he has taken a dip in form / confidence & I feel that our options are sadly lacking.

He could have even pushed it to the side. I'm sure Kelvin himself will be pretty hacked off with that goal and the first Brighton one. He's still quality though.

As for the team I'd rest Davis, Richardson, Fox, Fonte, Cork and Lallana and go with

Bart

Butterfield

Martin

Hooiveld

Harding

De Ridder

Schneiderlin

Ward Prowse

Holmes

Connolly

Guly

And some subs.

We'll make changes though. The OS is softening us up for them with this:

While I didn't see the Palace League Cup game, I reckon that we'd have had a chance of winning that with the team we put out, but if we had better strikers in reserve. I think a few of the youngsters could be lining the bench on Saturday.

Initially I straight away agreed with the OP, to put out the full first eleven, but then I think about the reason for our poor form, and the players are knackered. Drop Lallana for sure, the three CM's are ok because they rotate anyway, Guly deserves a rest but we may need his creativity, and I'd argue about resting Jos but I don't think we have a replacement. Frazer can rest if Butterfield is fit.

The big question is Bart. I trust him.

I sincerely hope that none of these players is involved:

Davis

Richardson

Hooiveld

Fox

Hammond

Cork

De Ridder

Lallana

Guly

A dtaw would be the best result for us anyway (given Lambert's suspension) - let's send some youngsters out there and challenge them to achieve that.

Jaidi, Ward-Prowse, Stephens and Reeves all featured quite heavily on the latest training video on SaintsPlayer - hopefully they will all feature.
