georgeweahscousin Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 ...I just had a chat with him about Saints on Sports Tonight Live. He said "I was a massive waste of money for them" which I think we will all agree with, but also "Saints are a great club, and Premier League. But fans can be fickle" Can we argue with the fickle bit? Seen a lot of crazy comments after the recent run of form?
CB Fry Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Perry always says something like that when the subject of Saints comes up (the waste of money thing, not the fickle fans bit). His book is a decent read too. He didn't think much of Alan Ball as a manager. Fickle fans is something you can say about any fans of any club. Except Portsmouth who have the greatest most loyal fans in all the world.
Badger Posted 3 January, 2012 Posted 3 January, 2012 Groves was of course a Branfoot signing. Alan Ball clearly did not share Branfoot's vision of how the game should be played, or that Groves was worth picking up his salary whilst permanently injured.

The Branfoot era is very similar to Kean at Blackburn - Groves makes a good point.
ottery st mary Posted 4 January, 2012 Posted 4 January, 2012 Groves was injured at Arsenal and injured when he arrived at Saints... He never passed the medical and it showed thereafter...Who was conned...We wos:rolleyes:
fish fingers Posted 4 January, 2012 Posted 4 January, 2012 Bloody Branfoot gets blamed for everything. He took us to Wembley remember.
Lighthouse Posted 4 January, 2012 Posted 4 January, 2012 Some people are fickle Football fans are a very large group of people Ergo there are a fair few fickle football fans The problem is everyone remembers the muppets who stick out in the ground. We could get beat by Coventry and Forest and there'd be half a dosen fans shouting "Adkins Out" at the back of the stands. What happens? Everyone comes home, jumps on their keyboard and starts typing "FFS! Our fans are such a fickle bunch of stupid Mongs FFS! There were hundreds of fans singing Adkins out FFS!"
pressingon Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 To be fair he is a great panalist on 5 Live's "Fighting Talk" with some great anecdotes
VectisSaint Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 Bloody Branfoot gets blamed for everything. He took us to Wembley remember. and we lost. I tend to think we got to Wembley despite Branfoot.
david in sweden Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 and we lost. I tend to think we got to Wembley despite Branfoot. Good comment Vectis, I had the same thought before I read your line.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 [/u] Good comment Vectis, I had the same thought before I read your line. Not forgetting the god awful Skate Lookalike kit we wore that day. Hated that flaming kit. We should never play in blue. Met Branfoot when he was manager, I was on work experience at The Dell at the time. Very very nice bloke. Just the wrong bloke (tactics wise) for us. Never forget though he was a fantastic Youth Team Boss for us.
Denzil Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 Didn't he slag us off in the book? Although I haven't read it myself.
CB Fry Posted 7 January, 2012 Posted 7 January, 2012 Didn't he slag us off in the book? Although I haven't read it myself. No he didn't. Clearly didn't get on with Bally and felt completely frozen out by that regime. On the whole very disappointed he never got the opportunity to actually do anything for us, mainly through injury. Says some nice things about Le Tiss if I remember. I can't remember anything negative about the club or fans.
