Puncheon to the rescue?

Puncheon? Was never as bad as some on here make out, proved when he went on to DAdecentJF Millwall and Blackpool.

Clearly good enough to play for us but I'm not sure that second chances are the NC/NA way of doing things?

I'd have him back now for the rest of the season but not sure the powers that be will see it that way; once a bad apple, always a bad apple etc.

well, hands up who thought Forte would ever play a league game again....

If the other lads can put past disagreements with Puncheon behind them, and Puncheon himself can deflate his ego just a touch then he might just be what we need. QPR didn't play him, despite all the last minute sprinting into Loftus Road at the last minute before the window closed... But he can play football. That is proven. What is not proven is his ability to bond with his team-mates. To sum, he has premiership quality but kindergarten attitude. Maybe our Nige can spank him awake to do a job for us.

If Puncheon were to set aside his ego and step up to the plate to make a critical contribution to rescuing our season, he would be rapidly transformed into a hero and would find that sense of belonging that seems to elude him.

Its a big ask, but I wonder if he realises what a golden opporunity lays before him.

I guarantee you all it would take was one game of mis-hit crosses, skied shots and running himself into a corner before we go through this whole cycle again.

Get rid of him, get someone else in.

No f**ker wants him, there is no harm in putting him into the Coventry game and seeing if he can apply himself.

Puncheon is not the answer. There's a reason he didnt settle here and the fans got on his back - He was consistently playing badly and was a total liability. Why would this be any different now?

I agree, he is no long-term answer without a major personality adjustment/frontal lobotomy , but considering Lambert is banned, Goolie is injured and our bench yesterday was already doing a remarkable impression of Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard, we arent exactly stuck for choice in the short term ( until this feat of transfer market legerdemain that NA is alluding to materialises, which could be April 2013 for all we know)

I don't seem to remember this I certainly don't remember him being any more of a liability than Guly is on occasion. I'd give him a start against Coventry and have a quiet word with him before hand along the lines of 'make it impossble for me not to put you in the squad for the next match' see how much he wants it and if he does then he should at least be on the bench he is proven at this level unlike Jonno Quick and the kids.

As has been mentioned, it's unlikely that Puncheon is a long-term option for whatever reason, but given the injury and suspension situation we now find ourselves in, we'd be cutting our nose off to spite our face to not use him in the next couple of weeks, even if it's just from the bench.

He can put himself in the shop window with some good performances, and perhaps those good performances might lead him to actually stay here after all... either way, I don't see what we've got to lose, really.

If he's had a change of attitude, been humbled by his lack of recent football, and is willing to work his absolute arse off in whatever department of training NA puts him in to prove he wants to play, then I'll have him back.

That's what I'd say to him anyway.

Ah, forget it then. A lack of play clearly hasnt humbled him.

F**k him.

You are assuming he is tweeting about the Saints management set up begging him to come back whereas it is just as likely (or more likely imo) that it is several people on twitter who have been giving him grief and now changed their tune

Fair enough, a better explanation for things.

No mean feat but have found saints fans in the real world and on other sites (not referring to the UI, though they've got their own issues) to be more deluded than the lot on saintsweb.

I'm afraid that this talented footballer - who has an attitude I don't like - has been boycotted (sorry wrong sport) by the management, who also don't like the "said attitude " ..but the fact remains..unless we are forced to take the dubious step of dipping into the Academy for extra resources for the next few weeks....we'll have no "back-up " at all.

Forget the ego bit, and the previous " misunderstandings "..I say bury the hatchet and play the man, and put the club FIRST !

I have the deepest respect for Nicola Cortese, his professionalism and the way he handles things, but this is not the bank world..it's the real world and all should understand that in the heat of the moment.. a fukc here and there in the conversation is not necesarily a sign of disloyalty ...but anger !

JP is an employee of SFC, gets paid the same as others...for doing nothing!...(as far as I can see)....PLAY HIM and see what happens.

It could hardly be worse. If he plays well, he'll be " in demand and in the shop window" ...who knows - we might actually decide to keep him a bit longer ...

P.S. Just seen a contribution above from Steve Grant, who said much the same - wasn't copying you SG -didn't see the earlier post.

He has now tweeted

"in football people always question players for there loyalty to clubs....maybe we as players should question the loyalty shown towards us"

Perhaps he still has a chip then ??

What the fukc (!) ..Does he want to play football - or doesn't he ? Forget it - move on !

The club is the employer, and NP is getting paid for NOT doing what we bought him for.. surely there must be a sensible solution here for everyone concerned. How many more games of football do we have to lose whilst all these various people massage their ego's?

.and NO , (JP) ..you won't get a guaranteed place either.

Hardly anyone has in this club (thats L1 talk)... We're still looking at promotion, and in the Premiership, players like Carroll, Torres and Rooney sit on the bench until they're told to play -

Get used to the idea NOW... or drop a Division and be a big fish in a duck pond, instead.

In reply to d-in-s (I have not read Grantys post), David whilst I agree with you about playing JP, we Saints fans are a real fickle bunch! I think there is a whole bunch of truth in the post from Saint_clark. JP would be on the pitch less than 15 minutes and the boos would be ringing out from all over SMS. It seems we (?) are an unforgiving set of fans.

Oh, I realise that Norm, (sadly)

I just wonder what reactions might be if - we are forced to use him - (away at Coventry first) - and he actually does play well, or even score ?
