Running out of blue ink to draw lines under, anyway here's how I think / hope we will line up (assuming nobody new on the bus).

Bart

Butterfield

Hooiveld

Martin

Harding

De Ridder

Warde-Prowse

Hammond

Holmes

Reeves

Forte

Bench Davis, Richardson, Dickson, Schneiderlin, Connolly, Lallana, Cork

Fonte?

Dickson

Lallana

Hammond

Morgan

Holmes

Connolly

Guly

Give a few players a rest, but the lads will be desperate for a confident boost and we need to improve our form away from home.

Oh and Puncheon, get him in there. Stick Lallana on the bench and give Jason a chance.

Reeves and Forte is the least attractive front-line since WW1

I'd also thought about giving the youngsters some experience, but balancing that with a few older heads:

Bart

Butterfield

Martin

Hooiveld

Harding/Shaw?

De Ridder

Ward-Prowse

Hammond

Reeves

Sinclair

Connolly

Subs: Davis Harding/Shaw Cork Schneiderlin Forte Holmes Hoskins

It certainly shows how desperately short of striking options we are - I certainly have no faith in Forte delivering, so it's up to the nippers.

Connolly needs game time, as does de ridder- will help with the missing composure, again only game time can give, give puncheon a taste and try I say and Hoover has to play as much as a rest would've been nice...

to be honest I think you can forget about any player who's part of the Youth Cup team, they're at Bolton on Wednesday next..

Reckon we'll have at least our new striker in by then, the only positive point from yesterday is that Rickie's red might hurry that along a bit.

If we play that team I would expect the FA to punish us.

Wish we had a proper game. Can see us playing a strong team and bouncing back with a win, but it's at forest it really matters, and their bad run seems to have ended now. If we lose at forest and somehow remain top, we're definitely going up.

Can't agree Adrian, we aren't going to lose 3 points in this game, and we have to see the potential of the "second string" we have.

plus we can't afford MORE injuries to what's left of our first team line-up.

If they can't impress against bottom of the league side (even in the Cup) they won't be much use... if /when... we get to the Prem.

Thought the same myself. Pity it came down to that but "cover " was needed ..long ago.

But with no games around it, I can't see us playing second string. Maybe Holmes and Jaidi, but mostly a first team, and I think we'll win it.

And I don't buy the 'can't impress against the bottom of the league side' stuff. It's all about timing. Cov were rubbish for ages, and have some form at the moment. Same way I'm sure we'd have stuffed Bristol earlier in the season, or Forest a week or 2 ago. Timing is crucial, and that's why any fixture can be tough.

Holmes maybe..(he played in all 4 L. Cup matches this season), but has struggled to get on the bench until recently.

Most posts I've read on here suggest that Jaidi is out for the best part of the season with a major injury .? ....or ?

I'm concerned that we would have to play our only two fit CH's (Martin and Hooiveld) in a non-event like this, when we are concentrating on the League.

we'll beat them - if we sign Lukas Jut. before Thursday!

Is Harlee Dean back from loan yet? Heard he was impressing or has it been extended til the end of the season? Could be worth a go to give Hooiveld a rest.

On loan until 8th January so that lets Saturday out. Don't even joke about him replacing Jos,anyway isn't Jaidi back in training now and has been for about 3 weeks.

Play 11 players from the development squad. Give the first team a rest and blood more youngsters.

I wouldn't normally say this, because I do hold the Challenge Cup in high regard but we are so well placed in the league to make a return to the top flight a genuine possibility and our focus should be there this season.

For the nth time, the academy side are playing at Bolton in the Youth Cup on Tuesday 11th Jan, they will not be available for the FA Cup methinks, as for the development squad it's not even a whole team without first team reservists. We will have to go with a mix of senior players and "the reserves".

You seem to think that the youth cup is more important than the FA Cup or an opportunity of a young player getting valuable first team experience. You're wrong.

I hate not taking cups seriously, but of late one or two of our first teamers have simply looked a bit jaded, and we've had a hell of a Christmas with a lot of games in a short period.

I would rest as many of our first 11 as possible and give some of the kids a run out. Who knows, they might win... If we could have finished a ham sandwich they we could have progressed in the Carling Cup with a lot of reserve players in the side.

Going to be interesting with Cardiff having two Carling Cup Semi Finals plus the FA Cup tie.

As the cups derailed our season with Pardew, it could also do the same for Cardiff.

No matter what anyone says, the extra games and the intensity that requires takes something away from the league matches. Always has been the case.

I think it depends on your squad depth. Champions league competition, FA Cup and league performance haven't been a huge issue for the big clubs - some managers (Redknapp) might like to use the number of games as a convenient excuse of course...

Cardiff don't have a big squad this season though tbf, they lost a huge amount of players in the summer - but replaced a few with quality, but the depth they had isn't the same. So will be interesting to see how they cope.

Couldn't say really but Cardiff have 14 players who've scored at least 1 League goal this season against 11 for us.
