Roger Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I feel the players have over achieved so far and seemed a but nakered in mid november. Lambert has a lot on his shoulders and its too much for him. Should we have sold AOC if we werent going to sign spend the money? Jos brillant signing but we needed another forward. Lets see what we do now but I do feel that we need to sign 2 or 3 players. Big forward Speed merchant Centre back. People have been saying that the liebhrrs want out and the relationship with cortese/liebhrrs has collapsed. I really hope that is wrong but we may find out soon. Hopefully its a load of rubbish. I feel adkins has done a great job and dont blame him at all. On the bright side we have 2 weeks really cos imo the cup doesnt matter at mo. Rest players get fonte and chaplow back and rickie will have a rest and be back by cardiff. Then we hopefully can show our mettle and buy some players. S-Clarke Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Well we'll get a clearer picture of our financial position at the end of this month. If we don't make any moves in the position we're in with the chance we have, then it'll start to possibly show that the financial backing is not quite as it was, or as we believed it was. But listening to Adkins on solent it sounded to me like we'll have a couple in before the forest game.

Saintandy666 Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I do think we need another attacker. Connolly is past it for the level we are aiming for, Barnard works hard but I don't think quite cuts it and also has the court case hanging over him and while Guly is decent enough cover he isn't a centre forward, he should be playing behind the attack. Saintandy666 Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 But what people do need to remember is that this is still very much in our OWN hands. Sort it out in the next couple of weeks and we go up. Our brilliant first half to the season has ensured that.

WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I agree we need to buy now. We cant wait until the end of the month.Brighton had 11 players missing but their bench still looked a lot stronger than ours. We need 2 strikers, a winger and another cb as a bare minmium from this months transfer activity. You could also make an argument for a back up goalie and a box to box midfielder but I doubt we will address these 2 positions this window. If we dont spend reasonably big from the position we are in then I will also have doubts about how much backing we have got. I reckon still reasonable as we wouldn't have signed all our top players on long contracts but not as much as a lot of us possibly hoped!? We shall wait and see but we definately need a new striker by sat week

Oh don't get me wrong, I completely agree. Just a few words to confirm they're still around would be great. Maybe a good old marquee signing to give us a lift. My problem is with Dalek's constant attempts to wind people up by repeating himself over and over again. We all know how he feels and I respect his opinion, so his only reason to keep saying it is to wind people up, and quite frankly it's pathetic and juvenile. Perhaps with the option to buy in the summer I am guessing Nothing wrong with a loan to be honest, esp. with an option to buy. Jos was a great loan, so was chaplow for e.g. Sensible way going about it really, if you can find the right sort of players available for an initial loan. Wade Garrett Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I've just seen his post match comments on another thread. Personally, I don't think they can be interpreted as just going for loans. It is easy to get a little emotional and irrational after another poor result. I am just as guilty as the next man on that, but maybe we should just trust the manager and chairman to sort our season out. To be fair, they haven't let us down up until now, and our support is needed now more than ever.

Ashby Saint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 My take FWIW is that Saints have played a wait and see this Summer. If we were struggling at xmas then get in players to consolidate our position in the league. If we had a shot at promotion (as we do) then get a couple of players that could help our promotion but also play in the Premiership. If mid-table then plan for the summer. This makes sense as we really did not know whst kinda of side we had and how far these players could take us. If you buy hastely then you might be left with a player on hefty wages that you can't easily move on. Now we know where we are lets buy some quality! I also think that NA was waiting to see which players could make the step up to Championship level, and which couldn't. It is now very apparent that the squad is a bit thin - we need a striker, CB cover and a keeper. I also think that we have had a bit of a reality check after the stunning football of the Autumn. Teams have worked us out, pack the midfield even when at home, chase, and close down the full backs.
Legod Third Coming Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Cortese and the Liebhhers have every reason for us to be promoted. A club they bought for £15m could be sold as a bouyant Premiership Club for over £50m (the minimum parachute payment).

I agree with your point entirely, but I suspect owning Southampton has cost them an awful lot more than £15m. Considering the investment in Staplewood, investment in the team and paying off debt I would imagine the actual cost would be somewhat higher. But I do agree, even with a decent investment in Jan they would see a tasty profit should they sell. Let's hope it's a moot point though
Give it to Ron Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Don't know why the panic. I don't necessarily think signings solve everything, and I think we'd have a bad spell regardless of signings. Still, my main thought is that no-one knows if we have money. I assume it's limited, and Adkins/Cortese will spend all they can afford IF the right options are available. There's really no point banging on about it besides that. People seem to think they're given Adkins amazing insightful advice about certain players, or merely that we should sign more players. If we can't sign people due to money, or don't want to pay over the top fees/wages, fine, we'll just have to get on with it won't we. I'd just suggest we judge it on who we do sign, no who we don't. Ill tell you why the panic...having just got back from a game we threw away by a stupid sending off - take one look at our bench. Forte, Reeves, Holmes ...do you think any of those are Championship impact subs?? Forte couldn't get a game on the subs bench when we had to play Morgan right wing. Its now crunch time - everyone knows it - if we get in 2 or 3 decnt players we will go up - if we mess about or go for the cheap we wont. We wont have a better chance ever! If they got us into the Premiership and sold to a rich Arab who could have us compete in the same way as Man City... In truth, I would rather be a small family club punching above its weight, but those days are long long gone.

Watch g and listening twitter etc Sharp does seem like a character and goal scorer we need asap. Realistically I thnk we need 4 Players to stay in the top 3. If one of those is Punch so be it!!!!!
