Brighton 3 Saints 0 Post match chat!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

Shocking result for all the loyal fans, but let's face the reality.

Our worst defeat of the season to an under strength side who haven't scored in their last four games. Yes the Lambert sending off may have been a turning point but we couldn't score whilst he was on the pitch. Worrying times, and unless we quickly improve we will slip down the table and even miss a play off place.

Thank goodness for our form up to December or we would be looking at relegation now. Some new faces in January might help but the manager now needs a serious talk with all the players.

i can understand the loans idea, but they have to be quality and better than what we have. my worry is width. brighton were all over us in second half. would love to see a pacy right midfielder and a striker with a good goal ratio as am worried we dont score enough goals without lambo. i am not so sure regarding the guy from japan, personally i'd rather see someone from the premierleague if poss

I am also unsure of the Japanese player option. Is this the kind of player we need to get out of this league?

Far too sensible for this place mate, you have to carry razor blades to fit in on here...

Quite right old cock! Both Pardew and Adkins have stressed the importance of establishing a winning mentality here but that's gone now, flushed down the pan with all those crappy results in December. Now we are developing a losing mentality that isn't going to be easy to turn around again. These are mostly young guys who can't easily shrug off defeat.

Wrist slitters should prepare. This is what happened to Cardiff last year. Play-offs at best unless Adkins has something up his sleeve but somehow it doesn't look likely, he has looked quite ineffectual throughout December.

The wheels have come off Saints promotion bus and we hhave lost our driver (Lambert) for 3 games. We are to pridctable and have been very lucky all season. BBC still saying Southampton FC are best team, ha ha I dont think so. Also other teams have got 47, 45 points so we lose next game and they win and its 4th place. why we havent got new players in I dont know. The Bristol game showed have far we are off the pace for top 2

We've blown it big time. Our best chance of getting into the PL went up in smoke today after weeks of growing doubt. It will be years before we get such a chance again, and maybe we will have less supportive owners long before then.

You can all moan as much as you like at Poyet's tactics, but he did us like a kipper today. We all knew it would happen, and our team still fell for it.

Today exposed just how weak a team we are once you scratch under the surface of the fit first XI.

I dont see a way back from this. I am even wondering if big dips into the transfer market will rescue this season now.

We blew it 3 or 4 times last season as well

As I said this morning, I had a bad feeling about this one. Maybe not this bad, but bad. Maybe Lambert's showing his frustrations at not being allowed a move?

I think Lambert is just getting p off with the constant manhandling. I think the frustrations of the Bristol game is also to blame for his sending off today.....

Just on the way back - D'Urso change the game completely and should be sacked. Awful, awful human being. Connelly was pants.

Was never a 3-0 score line and D'Urso can sleep well knowing he has cost us the chance of winning. ****.

Thanks - a view from someone who went to the game...I look forward to the back from the match thread.

Listened to NA and Dean Hammond's view and certainly they won't be thinking negatively - our destiny is very much in our own hands with all to play for.

Those writing off our chances of promotion are certifiable...!

From what I can tell in the first half it was only a matter of time until we scored. In fact we did but the Ref didn't give it. Then the red card changed the game.

What is disappointing is then conceding 3 goals in 30mins. That isn't acceptable even when you have 10 men. We should have been better organised to deal with the situation.

We now have Guly injured along with Chaplow, Fonte, Jaidi, Barnard, and De Ridder (who I assume is injured). The lack of options today harmed us and it is definitely time to get a few new faces in who must be familiar with what is required and can hit the ground running.

Remarkably, we're still top after one win in six. A nice 2 week break from the league now and I expect the reserves to play next week.

Our form is a concern but it is not unexpected. The big picture still looks very positive and I hope this place doesn't become a hive of negativity. Be concerned about our form but do not treat it like the end of the world.

...and this!

Promotion not won or lost in a few games, WHU was a banker home win and the next place suffered the same result as us. Cardiff closing up fast, Reading took the hit from them, Leeds nick a home win. Still top, 12 days until next league game and now NA and NC have had a reality check that the squad needs strengthening quick.

Saddest thing for me is witnessing Adam Struggling for form.

I was down the front in the itchen/chapel corner vs Bristol City and thus relatively close up to where Ricky was playing in the second half.

He was blatenttly pulled, pushed and held without the ref intervening once. After a while he had that "why the f*** am I bothering" look of frustration on his face.

It wouldn't surprise me one iota if that justifyable frustration boiled over today.

Since when was it legal to prevent a striker from playing by fowl means?????

we have no strength in depth and we have been worked out - oppo are shutting adam down which is why his form has seemingly dropped off, he was a key supplier of our attack and therefore no wonder we're not scoring many and our results have dipped. All that ****** at the start of the sseason about having a squad good enough for this league is being proven very optimistic - as some of us have been saying all season we need 3 or 4 quality players - another class striker, an influential and strong CM and CBs with pace. Nige also needs to develop new ways to play when we do get shut down.

Sorry Clarky but loans dont show the same commitment that full signing does, unless they're want to play for us!!

It does when they are with a view to a long term signing, ala Jos and Chaplow. I'd say they were pretty committed loans if you ask me

He said permanents and loans anyway. I reckon the way we came on strong at end of last season too means adkins recovery techniques etc are spot on and trust us to come on strong at end of the season like man utd do.

seriously...I have read (and written) some proper drivel in my time but this is a cracker........you sir, are an idiot........infact, it is about time some of our lunatic fans just calmed down a tad...we are going through a bad spell...its all over. yet despit being really really crap and have a manager how has been found out....we are still top.....we are going into january looking to strengthen for promotion from the best possible position...........quick question. what other club in the league would you swap leage positions with right now with a 2 week gap till the next game....?

Very disappointing, & as said its just not a couple of signings that are going to arrest this slide the team has to stand up & start performing once again. Its not just Gully the likes of Lallana has been under-performing since his injury, Cork has not been as influential as earlier in the season. defensively we seem unable to grind out clean sheets. Every team has a bad run, its how you come out of it that counts, with the cup game we have 12-days for NA & the team to start to put things right. Questions have been asked, its up to the team & NA to answer them. I just hope & believe that the squad wont give up like some on here. A couple of the right players brought in to strengthen the squad/team & it will still be in our hands.

Just seen the goal that wasn't on sky, was well over the line how different could the perspective be tonight had that been allowed, game changing incident. Plenty more twists & turns to come in this fascinating season. Also we are in a far better situation since we last blew (OR DIDN'T) our best chance to get promoted.

Chaplow being injured definitely disrupted things but the failed experiment of playing Schneiderlin, Hammond and Cork together made a total mess of it. As soon as Chaplow was injured a forward player should have played wide right. We managed 1 win in five games, and that was only because SDR replaced one of them v Hull.

Central midfielders that don't threaten never mind score goals is another part of the problem, I know we need a striker but a quality attacking goal scoring central midfielder is essential to provide something extra.

For Davis to stop rebounding shots out to opposing strikers would help, it's not as if he gets many shots to deal with.

Some here need to calm down and get some perspective. We're top with half the season to play. We've hit a bad run. Are we good enough to go up with the players we have? Yes, the season so far has showed us that. Will we? Not necessarily, we need to rediscover some form. Will new players help? Yes, if they are good ones. Now let's regroup and go for it, a few poor results don't mean the end of our season.

It's not just about League position though is it?

I should think both West Ham and Cardiff fans are feeling quite happy tonight.

It did not take you long to get a contender in for 'the most stupid post of the year award' did it? Bookmark this post for May; stupid.

Good post. My big concern in all of this is not so much that we're dropping a lot of points but that the same players are delivering far less than they were before the end of November. Yes, Chaplow is a big loss but that's no reason for others to fall away as much as they have. Our squad is not great but it's deeper than other teams who've been picking up points while we've been dropping them. That inevitably raises the possibility that we've mistakenly changed our tactics, that we've been rumbled tactically by other managers and have failed to adjust, or that we're lacking something in the motivational department. The same players aren't performing, and five points out of the last eighteen is rapidly becoming much more than "a blip."

Regardless of which it is, the ball is in Nigel's court when it comes to fixing things. I've got a ton of time for him and what he's achieved but this isn't going to fix itself. Nor is there any guarantee that a couple of new players will suddenly get Cork, Lallana and others playing well again.

Look, I admire your attempt to inject some common sense into this thread but do you really think the Saints Web Forum is the right place for such level headed thinking? ;-)

Im normally very positive about this season and Nigel but he failed today - even after RL was sent off it was down to him to make the right changes to keep it at 0-0. Instead it all went to dogsh*t (based off merro's commentary).

Want to explain to me exactly what changes he could have made with Bart,Forte,Reeves and Holmes left on the bench??

no defenders there, no CMs.We need to stop getting on at NA, he had no other choices available today apart from the development squad and the academy, what you saw is what we had available today apart from Butterfield and I just couldn't say where we are with him just now,the other day on the build up video he seemed to have donned the role of club jester.
