John Boy Saint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Brighton were on a mission to get us down to 10 men, soon as Harding was wrongly booked all their players were on a mission to secure a swift second as they knew D'Urso was being sold on their antics. With regard to Rickies sending off my view was blocked however for a bloke who Rickie had just assassinated boy did he lash out with his feet as Rickie was getting up which D'Urso chose to ignore. As the game proceeded the more shonky decisions D'Urso made the more I felt in the back of my mind that this was a Referees Union directed game after Peter Waltons woeful display in our favour. Bourne Valley Saint Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 Forget D'Urso - the linesman to our left was shocking. He ruined Harding's afternoon and probably ours as a result of his stupidity in being instrumental in Dan's booking. It was a brilliant tackle but the dickhead was influenced by the baying whingers behind him and got him booked. The next tackle he did resulted in a talking to from D'Urso and then he was substituted. His reaction towards the linesman when he was walking off pretty well summed up his and our feelings on the matter!! Complete incompetence. Sour Mash Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 I'm generally not one to have a go at refs, but D'Urso was utter, utter, s**t. Having said that, we do tend to give away too many soft free kicks at times, made it easy for Brighton with their gamesmanship. Also, Lambert gets battered every game, yes he does give a bit back, but I can see why he might get frustrated.
saint1977 Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 D'Urso is the Frank Spencer of officials and should have been sacked for gross incompetence years ago. Anyone who was at the Blackburn home game in 2004 will know exactly what I'm talking about - the Barry Ferguson debacle and a stupid penalty award in our favour that shocked even James Beattie. Wasn't he also responsible for infuriating both Saints and Charlton with a last gasp postponement of the Boxing Day game last season? Add Lallana's goal on Saturday and that's just one club, every fan of every other club I know has a horror story of a D'Urso mess up. He's not controversial like Poll, Rennie or Winter were, he's just awful and should find another career. Still, it's not his fault that we messed about all summer and didn't get a striker in. If we had, we'd have been 4 up by the time Rickie was sent off.
saintant Posted 3 January, 2012 Share Posted 3 January, 2012 Well D'Urso quite clearly should not still be refereeing so had the FA got rid of him at the time he dished out two yellow cards to a player without sending him off he would have been nowhere near the Amex Stadium yesterday. Sorry, but the minimum requirement for a professional referee who is well paid should be to know how many cards he has brandished and who at. There can be no excuse for such incompetence and he should have been put out to grass. This guy continually makes a complete fool of himself and a mockery of the laws of the game. He seems to go out of his way to court controversy and it would be kindest all round if his whistle was permanently taken away from him for his own good and that of all true football fans. supersonic Posted 4 January, 2012 Share Posted 4 January, 2012 Just back Re Lambert’s red. I don’t mind refs who make mistakes but I do not like refs who are cowards but D’Urso falls fully into that category. Minutes before the Lambert sending off he (D’Urso) denied him an absolute stonewall pen. It was right in front of D’Urso and the Saints fans but he chose to ignore it because he didn’t fancy the fuss. Lambert was quite rightly furious and his frustration probably made him try to shake off the Brighton def when trying to legitimately regain his feet. Also Lambert did not raise his hands as such because he was lying on the ground trying to stand up and imo was merely trying to free himself from the defender's clutches. Also D’Urso’s treatment of Harding was scandalous. First booking was a brilliant tackle. I am still seething about him getting booked. Brighton also had a stone wall penalty turned down
