derry Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Everybody has stood by this team and we are top of the league and up to eight matches ago were going well but the wheels have come off results wise and other teams are now playing well. It was deemed as sacrilege to voice criticism at anyone. If we are to get back on track in my opinion we need one thing above all else a quality goalscoring attacking central midfielder. One goal from the three midfielders is awful. It seems that even when they do get a goalscoring opportunity they don't even remotely threaten. It seems a lot of vital goals against are now coming from rebounds off the goalkeeper. We are short of a striker, Lambert is out until the end of January unless there is a successful appeal. Lallana and Guly are playing poorly without alternatives. We are at the moment looking really thin on quality in the squad. The squad needs reinforcement now, another goalkeeper is required, experienced centre back cover is needed and a decent wide player.
Goalie66 Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Disastrous. Only word for it. Not just the loss but the way we capitulated against what in effect was a reserve side. We got hammered down the flanks yet persisted with playing Llanana and Conelly in the hole so that the full backs were exposed.

We got hammered down the flanks yet persisted with playing Llanana and Conelly in the hole so that the full backs were exposed. Not for the first time. The bad run was basically the failed experiment of playing the three central midfielders together for four and a half games yielding 2 points and 0-1 at halftime v Hull until one of them was replaced, no wonder Lallana has struggled. CanadaSaint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I feared we'd lack the necessary width when I saw his starting line up. As a result we couldn't open them up enough to score when it was 11 vs 11, and we were even more vulnerable than we needed to be when it went to 11 vs 10. Whether Chaplow returns soon or not, Nigel needs to get the balance back into the side. Then we might start to see the Lallana of old and the flowing football that others admired. Saints67 Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Just watched the highlights on SSN. We scored as ball was well over the line. Rickies sending off was harsh as both players were on the ground after El Abd had hauled Rickie down. Gutted and not impressed by Mr D'Urso. Good decision to send Greer off though!
