AussieDog Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 So far I've seen 2 good loan signings go through from Premier League clubs that CHDAJFU :- Macheda to QPR Andros Townsend to Leeds The 2nd one really irks as it's to a rival. Anyone else think we should be trying harder for a Premiership loanee this window??
Saint_clark Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 How do you know how hard we are trying? I think Macheda is overrated personally, and Townsend is a good midtable player - but he's not the "big push" type player we need.
Crazy Diamond Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Not really. There's no point in building a team of loanees, what do you do when they've gone?
S-Clarke Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Leeds aren't really a rival in my eyes, and the guy had his loan terminated at Watford because he had a fight with the coaching staff. Same happened towards the end @ Millwall iirc....or another club he's been at loan at before. Macheda has joined a premiership team, even if we were interested we wouldn't stand a chance. It's only the 2nd by the way.

I agree, but the consensus on here is that Nick and Nige should work very hard doing things every way but the simple way, have 50,000 meetings, and come away empty-handed at the end of the month. AussieDog Posted 2 January, 2012 Author Share Posted 2 January, 2012 It may only be the 2nd, but there are games being played today. Every game missed is a 3 point opportunity. Of course, I'll happily concede we were right to wait if at the end of the month we've won all our matches without any new additions... As for not trying hard enough....well the window may have only opened yesterday, but negotiations could (and may well have) taken place for weeks beforehand. The fact is, nobody has signed. I don't agree with the comment about not signing loanees either. Loyalty is a thing of the past for the majority of players anyway, so whether we sign someone for 4 months or 4 years it doesn't matter. They will most likely leave if a good enough offer came in regardless. Having AOC on a long term contract didn't really make any difference did it (other than the transfer fee we were able to negotiate). It's about getting results NOW. At least with a loanee we are not crippling the club with exorbitant wages if we were to fail to get promotion and get stuck with a premiership quality player on premiership wages. Just sayin'...... pingwing Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Danny Wilson going to Blackpool is one I would like to watch and see how he gets on. Same about Shelvey when he had his spell there, would have really liked to see him on loan Don't think its in the teams best interest to be investing our time in loan players we have no hope of signing though, so Macheda (no matter how good he is on FM) really would be out the question. Crazy Diamond Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I'm not against signing loan players, we didn't do too badly out of Jos' loan did we? Signing a player on loan for the sake of signing someone though? No.
RobM Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 There is nothing wrong with a loan, especially in Jan where transfer prices are massively inflated. There is always the chance of a loan for a player ordinarily out of our reach, who is perhaps being left out of their team and wants first team football. It's win-win, as we get a good player with low risk, the player gets the chance to play regular competitive games. Even for players we could ordinarily sign, it's still a low risk option if it's tied in with an option to buy. To start complaining about players we've missed out on already is very premature though. It's the 2nd Jan and NA claimed most business is done at the end of the window. Plus, unlike some clubs, we're not desperate so don't have to panic buy. As opposed to your view that it's more important to sign someone quickly, than make sure we sign the right player? We none of us have any idea how many things need to fall into place to sign a player, only someone as puffed up and arrogant as you would think it was 'easy'. I want us to strengthen as much as the next man, unlike you I assume that the professionals who run our club know what they're doing.

RobM Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 I think it's a pointless argument to fuss over how a deal is done. No two deals will be the same, every club, player and agent will have their own take on things. Sometimes it will be really simple and quick, other times it will take longer as it's more complex. There is no right or wrong, so long as we get the right player at the right deal. But of course, that doesn't allow for sniping at our fellow fans opinions and causing arguments, so as you were... RobM Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 Surely the right time is when the deal is done? I want to see signings too, don't get me wrong, I also see the importance of strengthening key positions quickly. But let's not forget it's the 2nd Jan, we have a game today which follows a game for us and everyone else in the last 2-3 days. Before that was Christmas, with another couple of games thrown into the mix and the time it takes to prepare for those games. That doesn't leave a lot of time for negotiations with other clubs or for players coming down to talk to us. After today things get back to normal and everyone has more time. You can't expect any team to let their better players (who we are no doubt aiming for) to leave their pre-game preparations at such a busy time of the season. alpine_saint Posted 2 January, 2012 Share Posted 2 January, 2012 In terms of keeping our promotion campaign going, the new signings should have been in training and ready for the next game on the 14th. I agree today is impossible. However, if they arent in by the 14th, they may as well be in October as far as I am concerned.

Our current squad has lead us to and kept us at the top of the table, so I don't share your urgency. We've only just started the second half of the season, there is plenty of time to go.
