70's Mike Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Was watching last night and the thought struck me that we were becoming a bit Arse like and trying to walk it in to the net, could anyone tell me the last time we scored with a shot from outside the box
markr27 Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Holmes against Watford is the one that springs to mind straight away..... could be wrong though?
pressingon Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 I had a thread on this last season that we seldom shoot from outside the box let alone score. We have scored 47 so far and I can only remember 2 from outside the penalty area, our 1st goal of the season Hammond against Leeds and Holmes against Watford, when the keeper dived over the ball. This is not a criticism just an observation I know a top corner screamer is worth the same as a scruffy mis hit but the winner last night came as a result of a long shot. SNSUN Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Morgan was close last night tbf, and I'm sure that's 'cos the ground was yelling 'shooooooooooooot!'
supergoose Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 I was saying exactly the same at the match last night.
Pahars_Legend Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Most criminal offence was when De Ridder cut it back to Lallana who had acres of room but proceeded to roll the ball towards the goal. Lambert didn't get an opportunity to do so yesterday but I feel that he needs to be a bit more greedy. He has an 80 mile an hour shot and sometimes he needs to shoot when it opens up more. But he's top goalscorer so can't really argue.
dello Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Lallana certainly seems more reluctant to shoot than last season... Which is a shame as some of his goals in the past have been Tiss-esque.. Have been disappointed with his last 2 performances generally..
dentyne bus Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 What about scoring goals from corners ? Been poor since MLT retired ! Others thoughts ?
markr27 Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 Corners have got better with Fox in the team - Schneiderlin can also deliver a decent ball. However with Fox, you usually see 1 or 2 a game that will sail over everyone at the near post, and bounce down into open space past the far stick.... Jonnyboy Posted 31 December, 2011 Share Posted 31 December, 2011 I said this on the post match thread - especially on this skiddy surface a few shots were worth a go instead of going sideways to De Ridder.
dentyne bus Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 But how many goals have come from corners ? You see the stats for many corners but no goals !

I'm sure that the opposition have cottoned on to the fact that KD spills shots quite often actually, hit and hope from 25-30 yds and then have blokes following up.I mean every detail is analysed from videos nowadays isn't it and if I've noticed it then I'm sure that highly paid football managers have as well. david in sweden Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 you're all right to some extent. One can't argue with being highest scorers in the League, but with the amount of chances we create , and good finishing..you'd expect that -wouldn't you ? However, it's a good question as to WHY we don't have more spontaneous shooting, especially when we've seen that others teams have done it to us -with success - and often stolen points into the bargain ! COMEONYOUREDS Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Yep someone needs to have a shot for once. Against pompey we would've finished them off easily at 1-0 if we had been a bit more direct
Window Cleaner Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 we have a few long range shots every match, trouble is decent keepers either tip them over the bar or round the post( and we're **** at corners) or gobble them up, they don't spill them in front of onrushing attackers as Bart and Kelvin seem to do occasionally. I think if you went through all the goals against us this season one by one about 10-15% of them including many of the most critical could be put down to some sort of(major or minor) keeper error or deflection. paulwantsapint Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 Think last goal from a corner was Jason Dodd in 3-0 against skates before that Matt Le Tissier 2-0 against wimbeldon

Colbury Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 1 goal from CM isn't a great return either, top scoters or not.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 January, 2012 Share Posted 1 January, 2012 (edited) 1 goal from CM isn't a great return either, top scoters or not. 2 goals, depends where Chaplow was playing when he scored his 3 goals this season as well. Doubt if it's for want of trying though, keepers have decent days against us most of the time. just looked at the stats, our midfielders do have quite a lot of shots on target, well Morgan and Chappers anyway but keepers save them seemingly. Cork and Hammond have really low shots on target numbers, 3 for Hammond,4 for Cork. On looking at those stats though there is one that really really hits the eye,but I won't say anything about that because people will think I'm getting on at him again. He has good control when he has the ball..but why not a few longer range pot-shots, Adam ...(ala MLT)?
