Shooting

I had a thread on this last season that we seldom shoot from outside the box let alone score.

We have scored 47 so far and I can only remember 2 from outside the penalty area, our 1st goal of the season Hammond against Leeds and Holmes against Watford, when the keeper dived over the ball.

This is not a criticism just an observation I know a top corner screamer is worth the same as a scruffy mis hit but the winner last night came as a result of a long shot.

Most criminal offence was when De Ridder cut it back to Lallana who had acres of room but proceeded to roll the ball towards the goal. Lambert didn't get an opportunity to do so yesterday but I feel that he needs to be a bit more greedy. He has an 80 mile an hour shot and sometimes he needs to shoot when it opens up more. But he's top goalscorer so can't really argue.

I'm sure that the opposition have cottoned on to the fact that KD spills shots quite often actually, hit and hope from 25-30 yds and then have blokes following up.I mean every detail is analysed from videos nowadays isn't it and if I've noticed it then I'm sure that highly paid football managers have as well.

you're all right to some extent.

One can't argue with being highest scorers in the League, but with the amount of chances we create , and good finishing..you'd expect that -wouldn't you ?

However, it's a good question as to WHY we don't have more spontaneous shooting, especially when we've seen that others teams have done it to us -with success - and often stolen points into the bargain !

we have a few long range shots every match, trouble is decent keepers either tip them over the bar or round the post( and we're **** at corners) or gobble them up, they don't spill them in front of onrushing attackers as Bart and Kelvin seem to do occasionally.

I think if you went through all the goals against us this season one by one about 10-15% of them including many of the most critical could be put down to some sort of(major or minor) keeper error or deflection.

1 goal from CM isn't a great return either, top scoters or not.

2 goals, depends where Chaplow was playing when he scored his 3 goals this season as well.

Doubt if it's for want of trying though, keepers have decent days against us most of the time.

just looked at the stats, our midfielders do have quite a lot of shots on target, well Morgan and Chappers anyway but keepers save them seemingly. Cork and Hammond have really low shots on target numbers, 3 for Hammond,4 for Cork. On looking at those stats though there is one that really really hits the eye,but I won't say anything about that because people will think I'm getting on at him again.

Lallana certainly seems more reluctant to shoot than last season...

Which is a shame as some of his goals in the past have been Tiss-esque..

Have been disappointed with his last 2 performances generally..

Were discussing this at the last game and agree - seems he's thinking too much now rather than working with his pure instinct.
