Bye Bye 2011 & Thank You

First season ticket in 1977/78 and with the odd exception been one ever since, But 2011 is probably my favorite ever year supporting Saints and for those of you who remember the early to mid eighties, will know that would have taken some doing.

I don't think any of us back then, reliased the standards that had been set, both in football style and results and whilst football has changed enormously and we are comparing different leagues, what Adkins has acheived is nothing short of incredible.

It's not just the results, it has been the football as well. Don't let a little rough patch overshadow, some the wonderful football we have witnessed. Football that would grace ANY premiership team and perhaps with a bigger club, would have had more of the pundits gushing.

This isn't about individual highlights, this is the year as a whole and a year, that no matter what "Football Circles" you move in, when asked who you support, allowed you for the first time in a few years to answer with a smile on your face.

None of us know what the rest of the season holds, but I will look back on this year as the one that really cemented the come back, a proud team coming togther after years of abuse, playing football the right way, but with a physical and steely edge when required.

We re-signed ;layers that we would have lost in past and only sold others on our terms. I am delighted that we seem to be difficult to deal with, agents hate us and 10 million pound faxed offers get chucked in the bin without response.

So for all the bedwetters out there, we leave 2011 top of league and start 2012 top of the league. We have witnessed more wins in this year (I will let the stattos confirm or dismiss) that I can ever remember and have smiled my way through most matches.

Thankyou 2011 and Good Bye.

It's been a great year, and I doubt many envisaged this year would be as good when we lost at home to Brentford last year.

But we've grown as a team so quickly and for the first time in a long time as fans we have a real connection with alot of the players, they aren't just here today gone tomorrow types, it all feels like one big team.

We ended the year on a bit of a slump, but this time next year who's to say we won't be looking at the premiership results hoping games go for us, before our evening KO?

football is a funny old game and things can change very very quickly.

2011 - played 50, won 34, drawn 8 lost 8 - 110 pts in league games - Arrise sir Nige and thanks for a great year - Seriously anyone who calls themselves a Saints fan and is not proud of that record should go feck themselves - whatever happens in 2012, this side has delivered beyond expectations so far. The fact that december has seen a poor run, is nothing to be depressed about - it had to happen as it seems to all sides - now we have 22 games to go and sit top of the pile, probably about 10-12 points ahead of where I though we would be at the season - BELIEVE guys! Happy NEW YEAR.

I will keep it brief and just say what needs to be said as there's no point in saying what doesn't need to be said because this would just be an overuse of words to say something that is said but doesn't need to be said in so many words to say Happy new year.

No doubt about it, 2011 was the best year in my 23 year lifetime supporting Saints. So many wins, a promotion, top of the next league. Seeing players that care, enjoy being here and (most of the time) lots of positivity about the place. 2012 could see us back where we belong.

Cheers 2011, bloody good to us!

Great post Gemmel and a big thankyou to everyone at Southampton fc for putting a smile back on my face at home games and giving me bragging rights at work. Its been a very long time since,as a Saints fan i have been as proud as i am now.

My only disappointment has been the Skate game and last night(spent the day telling Bristol City fans how we would easily beat them).

Still,we see in the new year at the top of the table.

Bloody marvellous!!!!!!

Happy new year everyone.;)

I got my first season ticket as a boy when Alf Ramsey was our right back (I once saw him score four goals for us as a centre forward) so I've seen plenty of good years (when Ted Bates took us from 3rd to 1st divisions) and plenty of bad years (we all know about them) but I do not believe there has ever been a year when the whole Club has been so clearly a secure unit, stable financially, in playing staff and in every other way and it shows on the field. I'm pleased I've lived long enough to see the recovery following the total implode that looked like finishing us off

what a year!

Even the Bristol defeat has been overshadowed by West Ham and Boro's inability to punish us for it.

We are living a golden era, let's hope 2012 can match 2011.:)

Markus would be so chuffed to see his project now.

We play the game the right way, we've seen off some big clubs, life isn't perfect but the future looks very red and white.

Happy new year everyone, especially my fellow skate-botherers on the longest thread in history.
