risky signing, not really a Japanese regular and scores about 1 in 3 games in the J League which top scorer for the past two years is Josh Kennedy who was crap in Europe. Will wait and see but personally I'm not expecting too much. I hope to be wrong of course.

If he's not a Japan regular it would be more than a risky signing,it would be ludicrous, unless he has a Scottish granny or something.

Can't help thinking this is a commercial move. Looks like a decent finisher though.

It would be a convenient part of it.... but he looks to be at least slightly able. You don't score the winner in the Asian Cup Final against Australia unless you have something about you.

I'd rather see us sign a few players like this than get shafted on someone like Rhodes, Rodriguez, Sharp etc.

I do think we need a couple of attacking players though, Connolly could snap at any time, Barnard hasn't played all season and isn't that great, SDR has yet to find his feet and Lallana / Lambert / Guly have played a lot of football.

In an ideal world we will sign this bloke and someone with some Championship experience towards the end of the month as teams get desperate.

9 caps last year since making his debut, mostly as sub. Not sure he will get a work permit to be honest.

Can't remember the exact criteria ,75% of international matches comes into it somewhere but over what period I couldn't say.

All I know is that the Arse have a Japanese youth international on their books but he can't get a permit yet and is loaned out in Holland.

1. A player must have played for his country in at least 75% of its competitive “A” team matches he was available for selection, during the 2 years preceding the date of the application;

The highlighted bit is the grey area I would say.

What do you mean "shafted" by Rhodes, Sharp etc? Do you mean pay the going rate for proven quality? You'd rather we gamble on cheap foreigners than sign proven quality is that what you mean?

The going rate is the problem, as usual.

The only reason someone like Rodriguez for example gets talked about with a £7 million figure to his name is because he's English. There is such a shortage of young English talent that when someone shows even a hint of quality, he gets several 0s added to his price. Francis Jeffers anyone?

Was Sharp worth what we were being quoted with in the summer? Don't think so.

You do get more for your money signing players from abroad but that is because it's a bigger gamble. I just hope it's Adkins choosing this guy because he's better than Sharp, Maynard etc, not Cortese choosing him because he's cheaper.

This obsession with Sharp, Maynard and Rodriguez really has to stop.

They are not the only three strikers in the world. As I have said many times, if we sign anyone, it'll be players we've not heard of. De Ridder and Hooiveld, did anyone know of them or expect them to sign? No.

Japan striker Tadanari Lee, who scored the winning goal in last year's Asian Cup final against Australia in Doha, could be joining Southampton after agreeing terms with the Championship side, according to reports in Japan. Saints must now obtain a work permit for the 26-year-old. (Nikkan Sports newspaper)

Rodriguez is hardly proven, very good potential yes, but he's gone flat this season and I can't believe we are still prepared to pay £5M for him? Tadanari Lee looks like taking the pacey forward in the Sharp, Maynard, Rodriquez role we have been looking for, so I really doubt we will be after another of similar ilk. Japanese / Korean players have not done too bad in the UK but the goals videos are worrying, Schneiderlin would be into double figures with that space. I expect only the international scout has seen the boy live, with the rest of the transfer committee working from DVD's. I can't really fault them so far, no matter what reservations any may have. If we get Lukas J as well, I would be relatively happy and wait for thgings to pan out.

Well again, Lukas Jutkiewicz isn't the only striker in the world. I'm sure there are some better out there playing at levels just as good as the Championhip - if they're not already in it!

Not really sure about this one tbh. January isn't the time to be bringing in players who are gonna potentially need time to settle imho. I really think if 1.85 million is correct, then we would miss a real trick not going for Billy Sharp. I think players proven in English football should be who we look at. Save the foreigners for the summer.

I am, of course, willing to trust in NA and NC, and I'm sure they know more about it than I do...

Tadanari Lee boarded a London bound plane approximately 4 hours ago could be something in this

Very specific information. How do you know this?

Have spent the last 15 mins going through the comments on google translate in relation to that photo, loads of good luck messages and one mentions medical at Southampton.

Ah. at last.

A replacement for Saint Lee.

Those heady days of Chardonnay and Paul Allen seem so long ago now.......

We must be due a 5 year anniversary sometime this year....28th April 2007 rings a bell (date it was announced in the London Evening Standard that Paul Allen was "interested"?)

To the tune of just can't get enough...

When he played the Aussies, he scored the winning goal, and it's tadanari lee, it's tadanari lee

And now he's at Southampton, he'll score against the skates, it's tadanari lee, it's tadanari lee

He's from Japan and he's 6ft tall,

.......

And I can't think of a last line, dammit!

The lyrics aren't bad but 'just can't get enough' is an awful, overdone song.

I am an ITK stalker lol. I was speaking with a japanese speaking fan who confirmed this and said about Lee "He is a very good striker, fast with a lot of energy, strong, good dribbler. It will come down to how he adjusts to his new life and a league less technical but much tougher mentally and physically"
