Ah so ! now we will have sukiyaki instead of burgers at HT..then

To be honest I wouldn't touch the catering at St. Mary's with a barge pole after the 'burger' I had at the Cheltenham game in the Cup. If he wants to bring some Asian delicacies with him, I might reconsider.

Still not sure about the "a passionate love calls are received," bit though!

Quite. Bizarre one that!

Really sounds like an interesting bid.. I hope that SFC help him to adjust culturally....Hiroshima must certainly be a bit different from So'ton.

Hiroshima play in an athletics stadium with a capacity of about 12,000 so he will see the difference there. Mind you the town park is a bit bigger than ours

If true, a good buy and fits into our policy of a relative modest outlay on players that we hope to develop over the long term. I don't think we are in a hurry to go up this season but are prepared to stick to our long term policy of sustainability.

As I have said countless times, this season is about consolidation and the management will be more than happy if we finish comfortably in a mid to lower middle position like 17th.

"I don't just expect to be promoted this year, I want us to be champions. When we are promoted to the Premier League I don't want people to think of us as immediate candidates for relegation. I see Southampton as a top-six Premier League club. Would I pay a player £100,000 or even £200,000 a week? Not if we were in the Premier League with a 32,000 capacity stadium. But if we were in the Champions League and had re-developed the ground to 50,000 then I might consider it."

as this thread is "supposed " to be about the proposed signing of T.Lee.. what are the possible down-sides to the buy? Seemingly - very few.

NA has formed a tight squad and everyone seem to have the team spirit OK, so players coming and going - as we have seen this season - Cork, SDR,and Hooiveld, have blended in and there is surely no xenophobes in the club that already has French, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese and Brazilian players on staff.

T.Lee (as an international striker - Japan aren't that bad either) surely has good form, and seems to be an ideal choice considering that Barnard is injured AGAIN, hasn't played a full competitive game in 8 months - and has an uncertain future until he knows the outcome of his Court appearance in March.

David Connolly - is on the wrong end of his career (34?)...though he may be retained when his contract goes out in June. Jealousy should have no place in a squad system - whats good for one is good for all - so that T. Lee can only add to our options and should surely be welcomed .

Lastly, the fee (reported on some other sites) as 500K (!).would surely be a bargain of the first magnitude - if T.Lee ...CDAJFU ... even in the short term.

I am continually reminded that some of the biggest fees we've paid out (historically)..were great disappointments, whereas the low-cost bargains that have come our way have indeed repaid their fees many times over....Kevin Davies (1996) for 650K (later sold for £8 million). James Beattie - £1 million Blackburn reserve..and of course Marian Pahars..800K in 1999, will forever live in the memory of all who saw him play - especially in the "Great Escape" seasons.

IN short, IMHO..Mr. Lee may be more than just a breath of fresh air, he maybe the start of a new footballing revolution at SMS - who's next NA ?

But that is T Lee (I think) playing for Japan. The suggested (KH) Lee from Wiki is a South Korean international.

Will the real FW Lee please stand up ?

Think we have to be careful in future with our own ..Lee Barnard ..and Lee Holmes, but in Korea, (where T.Lee's grandparents come from)

LEE is one of the most popular family names ...(something akin to Smith, or Jones in th UK).

(I've met a number of Koreans over the years and most of them were either; Lee, or Park )

I recall people some Saints fans though that the Swedes ; Anders and Michael Svensson were related when they both played around 10 years ago.

They weren't - (Svensson is THE name most associated with the " average man-on-the street" Swede).

Look again at the video in the link...... all the players numbers (yes, both teams!!) and the advertising hoardings are shown in mirror writing (seriously!!!).

So, somehow the video appears to be a mirror image (and I've no idea how this might happen - does anyone else?) which mmeans that the cross was from the LEFT and Lee scored on his LEFT foot.

Strange ay?

Potentially an intriguing and exciting signing.

I have to say though, from the little J-league highlights that I have seen on round-up shows from time to time, the quality of the defending and goalkeeping over there seems ubergash. May take him a little time to adjust to the closer attention he is likely to receive over here but he seems to be a penalty area poacher first and foremost and that skill-set (alertness and quick movement over short spaces) should do well against any standard of defending.

I would like our next signing to be a central midfielder who can score a goal.

You're right it was his left foot. Managed to find another video with it shown correctly. Fantastic finish!

I have been impressed with some of the japanese and korean team players over the years and always wondered why there wasnt a huge influx of those players to the UK.

As for this guy . I would welcome him to SMS. he does have a bit of class about him. He will need to discard the blue gloves though.

On a downside watching the videos I thought some of the goal keeping was pretty shoddy in the footage

Work permits don't help really, Arsenal have a Japansese youngster but he's out on loan in Holland somewhere because he doesn't qualify for a permit as yet. Many South Americans manage to find a Spanish or Italian granny somewhere or other but I wouldn't think it's the same for East Asians.

I think a case can be made here for the importance of not only finding a quality player but also the right type of character. Maybe we've gone off Maynard, jrod etc cos we feel they're billy big boots characters who will perhaps use us as a stepping stone into the premier league and move on at the first sign of interest from a big(ger) club.

The Japanese players seem to work very hard and can run all day. I'm sure that Park at man u must be a dream to manage. His attitude, work rate and commitment have never come into question as far as I'm aware. Perhaps the wage demands too are not ridiculously high, something I feel may be a stumbling block with Maynard et al, English strikers who feel they're the next big thing but are all potential at the moment.

Saying that, I'd still like to see Sharp come here.

You couldn't make it up, could you? These people are stuck in the 70's, love Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning I bet.

To be honest matey, I think you're the one stuck in the past. We live in a multicultural society, one community. Racial and xenophobic humour is all the more acceptable these days.

it's the PC brigade that have the problem.

I see Leeds are signing a young winger from Spurs, bit of a serial loanee though.

Also heard that Frimpong is going on loan to Wolves, pity we didn't get him for a while as a part of the AOC deal.

Andros Townsend I think?

Also blackpool have signed Liverpools Danny Wilson, although it's kind of a delayed part of the Charlie Adam deal afaik.

So anyway

Have we discussed the possibility it could take him a good long while to settle? Didn't the Skates have a Japanese goalkeeper who never got his head right and ended up being shipped straight back out? Sadly since the J League isn't part of FM12 we can't check his 'adaptability' stat...!

He was about 5ft 2, Kawasaki or something like that, only Skates would sign a keeper who was probably no bigger than yer average tyro league keeper.
