Doble wasn't able to make an impact against Coventry, as stated in my Coventry match report he was out-fought and out-thought by the Coventry defence all through his 60 minute spell. A real shame. I feel it was his chance to prove why he should stay, if anything though it gave reasons for him to go.

Then again he may need a bit of time in the first team to show what he's got.A lot of young players seem to need 10-15 minutes game time for a few games on the trot to get the feel of the pace and guile of the level. As we never give any of them much time it(s hard for them to be thrown in the deep end suddenly.Doble was injured a lot when he was on loan at Bournemouth wasn't he?I would like to see us give Hoskins 15 minutes in each of the next 3 or 4 games to see what he has to offer.Otherwise we'll never know really given that he'll be 19 soon and that's getting on for starting a first team career in our day and age.

True. Another loan spell should be on the table for him then, He needs a solid run of game time to try and establish himself just as you suggest. I wouldn't want to risk him in the Championship though, especially with only 5 substitutes. Hoskins on the other hand looked like he had the confidence, guile and ability to help turn a game, a perfect impact player.

On the times I've seen him he appeared to be a decent player but never looked likely to score which isn't much use to a striker. He also seems to have failed to impress on any of his loan stints in lower leagues which would lead me to believe he just isn't quite good enough.

****!!! I read the above and thought you were talking about Tandarandarari Leeee then.

Yeah I get that impression too. Although I think he is one that we would later wish we had kept as he will no doubt go somewhere else, get the chances he needs and go onto become a decent player.

Sanfrecce have confirmed that he's joined us.

Can you read Chinese then? (genuine question) The article on there seems to have been last updated on 13 January.

I'm a bit confused or am I missing something?

The other article with quotes from the player I read on Saturday. Do we really have any more news or are these just re-runs of what we have already seen?

I know there is a statement on Saintsweb homepage but what is that one based on?

There's no news, and given that Saints' OS basically says "he's got all the clearance, wants to sign and has gone home to get his stuff" why would anyone be bothered about it ? We don't have a match for 7 days and he can't sign for anyone else as Saints will be his employers and we're the only ones who have a work permit.

Still a bit worried that after this signing we're after another striker. As in, worried that Lambert is off. Does anyone know that he definitely is not?

I've no way of knowing one way or the other but I'd rate the chances of him leaving as zero.

Don't see it at all. I think we really need another striker as apart from Connelly and Lambert we have no other out and out strikers.

Lambert is the main man.

Connelly only plays in fits and bursts

Guly isn't an out and out striker.

Barnard is crocked and I think will be gone soon.

I have the same thought. Oddly not that worried about departure though, for reasons cant quite put finger on

I think it's more likely Barnard will be off. Then we'll have Lambert, Connolly, Lee and New Striker. Sounds just right to me. Especially with Connollys injury record.

We have needed one person to challenge Lambert and one to challenge Connolly/Barnard/Guly since before the start of the season - my expectations for this window were Hooiveld, another CB (though Martin is stepping up there), another midfielder (pref right) and one striker.

Then if we're in the Prem, a GK, another CB, a CM and another striker. Might be that we've decided the contract expiry options with our targets are good enough that we can add two strikers now instead of waiting until the summer.

Forte is half way out the door, Barnard clearly hasn't shown anything to suggest he's got top-tier ability yet, Reeves and Doble haven't shown much yet,

Connolly is slow-recovering and may be out of contract, whether anyone else leaves or not.

It's been consensus for about 10 years that all Prem teams need 4 options up front, and we're probably looking at that for now. Lambert, Guly, Lee and one other. Or Connolly in there with Guly in midfield... or maybe that's our 4 and we're not making £5m bids...

I do hope Saints are at the cutting edge of player integration methods.

This is the first player from a completely different culture we've had, and it's a long way from just integrating a few Italian- or Spanish-speaking blokes into English/British culture. I hope we get it right, and that Tadanari Oyama Lee Ri Yi Cheong-Chung-Seong-Sung's culture shock is less than mine has been trying to work out how and why he's got so many different versions of his name.

At the very least let's sign another Japanese international to keep him company. Is there a Cha La in the Japanese squad ?

@jordansibley: For "Tadanari Lee gives exclusive interview to the Daily Echo" read "Lee holds press conference in Japan - we lift quotes via local journo"

Can we take this as evidence of the Echo/SFC feud dissipating?

I am wondering now how long we've been tracking him, since the #19 shirt "just happens" to be free....

Makes you wonder who is already floating round in the back of NAs and NCs heads should we get promoted...

It's not like we haven't been rumoured to have been making bids on Rodriguez, Maynard and Sharp since August, is it ? Hardly a surprise that the gaps in the squad correlate with the gaps in our OCD squad numbering system (which I love, btw) - the biggest surprise so far this season is that Jos took 26 and we didn't sign a number 5. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Lee take 19 (though more recently he's been 9 for Japan) and as Oxlade-Chamberlain left 11 vacant, Falque is likely to get that.

8:30am Tuesday 17th January 2012

Exclusive By Sean Carroll »

TADANARI Lee's first interview in England is exclusively in today's Daily Echo - and the striker says he turned down several European clubs in order to join Saints.

TADANARI Lee has revealed he turned down offers from other European clubs in order to join Saints.

In his first big interview in England – printed exclusively in today’s Daily Echo – the Japan international explains how Southampton’s “special way” of playing persuaded him to move to St Mary’s.

The 26-year-old should officially complete his transfer from J.League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima this week, with terms already agreed and his work permit approved.

Lee said: “I got offers from many teams but the best offer for me was from Southampton.”

And the man who scored the winner for Japan in the 2011 Asian Cup final added: “Southampton have a special way of playing.

“I’m coming here to give everything to Southampton. I want to work together with my teammates and the fans when we win and lose, and to do my best to make the fans happy.”
