OK, I'll check OS. How siginificant a signing ? Regular, impact ? Interesting one.

Well, to be honest, signing the best Japanese prospect out there, one who came very close to signing for top clubs in France and Spain, I'm not sure we'll be looking beyond 17th at the end of the season. I just can't see beyond that. No ambition, that's the trouble.

Not like you to be so realistic, put your rose coloured specs on again or did you leave them in the lavatory ?

No Dalek, please, hear me out. Acting like this and saying overwhelmingly negative things is good - that way, if the team (by some miracle - see what I did there?) do well, we'll be doubly as impressed and happy! If you set yourself low targets, it doesn't hurt if you don't meet them and you often do better than you think.

I wear contacts though, that's true.

Rose coloured contacts ? Seems to me your having a dose of 'not really' realism.

Appeal successful. I assume he was refused a permit originally based on the number of caps in the last 24 months?

so Saints must have applied for the work permit a while back. I thought some on here said there was a lack of planning and decision making at the club?

Love these overseas signings that you know nothing about. Exciting. Hope he turns out to be a real star. Hope everyone gives him time to settle.

Doubt we'll sign him and register him in time for the Forest game, but great news nonetheless. If the FA made an exception for him then he must be a real talent!

hardly an exception, the football league has some utter rubbish non-EU players that have made it in

I assume someone like Chala/Bleidelis/Arias would have all needed work permits ?

all good shouts Claba Chala FFS might as well not bother with work permits with that going on

Chala - He was the captain of Ecuador at the time he joined Saints.

Bleidelis - Had 106 caps for Latvia by the end of his career. A large number of them before he joined Saints.

Arias - Had an Italian passport.

Chala - Was an international for Ecuador and may not of needed an appeal like Tadanari Lee did. He was the captain of Ecuador so must have been playing a bit! :D

Bleidelis - Had 106 caps for Latvia by the end of his career. A large number of them before he joined Saints.

.

why wouldn't Chala?

fact is there are loads of non-EU players, some african with french passports and some south american with Italian/Spanish connections, but tons of players that make the statement that LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE must be special if they let him have a work permit pretty ridiculous

You are missing the point...

- Those with Italian/French/Spanish passports don't even need a non EU work permit. They count as EU citizens.

- Those that meet the 75% of national team games regardless of quality pass the work permit.

However, those that fail the 75% of national games criteria and then have to appeal, do so on other grounds. That is what happened with Lee, and not with the other examples given thus far.

Hopefully hes signed up and ready to play before Saturday

The front line looks pretty bleak for forest if lee isnt ready.

Anyone know if guly is fit for forest?

We could certainly do with having Guly fit, but if he isn't fit then I would give Reeves a start. He was excellent when he came on against Coventry on Saturday. I hope we don't put Doble in there though - he was too static.

I doubt we'll find many Saints fans questioning his ability!

i am not really missng the poiint when my point is DON'T DRAW AN OPINION ON HIS ABILITY BASED ON THE FACT HE HAS BEEN GIVEN A WORK F*CKING PERMIT

from Reuters this morning:

Jan 12 (Reuters) - Japan striker Tadanari Lee is regarded as an 'exceptional talent' and has been granted a work permit to complete his move to English Championship (second division) leaders Southampton, despite not meeting international appearance criteria.

The 26-year-old would fly to England as soon as possible to sign his contract, the 1976 FA Cup winners said on their website (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk) on Wednesday.

The English Football Association ruled that Lee, who has only nine appearances for the Asian champions, was "an exceptional talent that would enhance the game in this country" clearing the way for him to be granted a work permit.

Southampton have struggled for goals in recent weeks and have seen their lead cut after only one league win in six matches as they bid to return to the Premier League for the first time since relegation in 2005.

Lee, born to South Korean parents, scored 15 goals in 32 matches for J.League club Sanfrecce Hiroshima last season and the diminutive, industrious striker has established himself for the national team under Italian coach Alberto Zaccheroni.

He gained international attention when he scored a stunning left-foot volley match-winner in the Asian Cup final against Australia in Qatar 12 months ago to claim a record fourth regional championship for the Blue Samurai.

Diminutive?? is he not 1.82 m then, that's just under 6ft.Mind you I saw stats regarding his height which varied from about 5ft8" to 6ft 2" last week.

I can't see signing him a problem. Surely we could fax the contract to Japan and he faxes back a signed copy. Simples. On the other hand, I suspect he needs to train a bit more with squad before being ready to play and that points to the Leicester game.

According to the Sanfrecce Hiroshima website he is 182 cm (6ft) and weighs 73kg (11st 7)

In comparison Lambert is 188 cm (6 ft 2) and 76.73kg (12st 1)

Yes so why is the term diminutive used,1.82 is a lot taller than say Barney or Billy Sharp.

It is an odd term to use to describe a 6ft tall man, I'd guess the reporter didn't do any research and fell back on the stereotype of Asians being small in stature.

Dont know what has happened to Doble, he was progressing really fastr then all of a sudden seemed to hit a brick wall. Think he needs to give himself a kick up the backside and kick on again. Maybe he is someone that the club are looking to shift on so he doesnt feel wanted or something?

I think he was fairly well rated as a kid so its strange that he is so far from the first team still.

Oh dear, I'm 178cm and weigh 77kg. Not sure how much me boobs and bum contribute but at least fit legs!:-)

Having a Japanese player certainly adds a new dimension to our team, and although no predictions from me I'm quietly excited. Looks like we've been tracking him for some time.

Dunno if this has been posted anywhere else in this 30-page behemoth, but my money's on him wearing our vacant number 19 shirt, as it was his squad number in the 2011 Asian Cup.

Especially as he's a striker, and Nigel has that squad number thing going on...

On the times I've seen him he appeared to be a decent player but never looked likely to score which isn't much use to a striker. He also seems to have failed to impress on any of his loan stints in lower leagues which would lead me to believe he just isn't quite good enough.

Doble wasn't able to make an impact against Coventry, as stated in my Coventry match report he was out-fought and out-thought by the Coventry defence all through his 60 minute spell. A real shame. I feel it was his chance to prove why he should stay, if anything though it gave reasons for him to go.
